So it’s Saturday night and BBC 1BBC 2 and ITV have sport on all night Football or tennis I am so fed up even BBC 4 has cricket
It’s just not worth a tv licence anymore

Diffuser Sat 05-Jul-25 17:53:08

It's rubbish isn't it? We're watching a re-run of This City is Ours. It's not much better through the week either at the moment.

Crossstitchfan Sat 05-Jul-25 17:58:26

I get apoplectic when I see all this sport, it’s so much, so often.
If Corrie or Eastenders were shown all evening there would be an outcry!
Why does the TV schedule revolve around sport?
I think the time has come to stop renewing my licence. I don’t want to pay out for a load of tripe, especially as I am a ‘poor old pensioner’!

BlueBelle Sat 05-Jul-25 18:07:49

I m thinking the same Crosstitchfan* why should I pay to watch wall to wall football, cricket, tennis
It’s my entertainment in the evenings
I m so pipped off I sit her on my own and look forward to losing myself in silliness

There's plenty on BBC iplayer.

Charleygirl5 Sat 05-Jul-25 18:20:07

It is every night, not just a couple of hours one night. With so much sport at present, I think a couple of separate channels are needed. Surely we are entitled to watch the usual rubbish such as Casualty?

Ilovecheese Sat 05-Jul-25 18:24:24

I agree there is plenty on iplayer, and I suppose with sport it really matters if it is shown "live". With drama and variety and so on, whether it is live or not doesn't really matter. It must be really annoying though if you don't have a smart TV.

This evening at 810pm on bbc4 there will be 3 episodes of the Agatha Christies The body in the Library starring Joan Hickson. Should be worth recording/watching.

Jane43 Sat 05-Jul-25 18:38:05

It is frustrating but my DH is a sport lover, especially tennis so I am happy to find something to watch on another tv, I am currently watching Endeavour on ITVX which is a delight.

Mt61 Sat 05-Jul-25 18:52:47

Should be on a subscription like Netflix, now tv, Prime, pay to view.

BlueBelle Sat 05-Jul-25 19:16:53

But your husband doesn’t need all the main channels on a Saturday night Jane does he ? Surely if they have to put sport on all the main channels on a Saturday night they could put our drivel on another channel? ( of course better still if they put the bluddy sport on another channel) but surely we could have both
Why take them off completely ?

kjmpde Sat 05-Jul-25 19:34:30

I hate sport so I get irritated that most TV listings are full of tennis, cricket, bloody football and horse racing. What I get even more annoyed about is , that sport is put on BBC1 and the news is moved to BBC2. Why not put sport on BBC2 ?

MayBee70 Sat 05-Jul-25 19:51:49

I never watch Saturday night tv anyway because it seems to be full of Ant&Dec, Michael MacIntire (sp) or talent contests. So for once I’m actually watching tv. My current favourite house renovation programme is on BBC1 or 2 at the moment.

Allira Sat 05-Jul-25 20:52:06

Football!!! I asked DH to turn over to the tennis but it's a repeat of a MacIntyre programme. What happened?
Even sport on Channel 5 too.

Yes, I know there's iPlayer, recordings etc but I might just go to bed and read. ☹
Or nod off.

BlueBelle Sat 05-Jul-25 20:55:43

Allira that’s what I m was thinking of doing but it’s still light outside and if I nod off then I ll muck the night s sleep up
I just think it’s so unfair

GrannyGravy13 Sat 05-Jul-25 20:57:46

We are watching ELO on BBC2, not my favourite band but thoroughly enjoying it.

merlotgran Sat 05-Jul-25 20:59:37

Me too, GG13. They are one of my favourite bands.
I’m enjoying a good singalong.

No he doesn’t need all the main channels Bluebelle, if I asked him to he would go and watch sport on the other tv but I’m
happy watching Endeavour on it.

Turned over to Miss Marple!

Calendargirl Sat 05-Jul-25 21:14:45

I watched a programme about the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh which I’ve seen before, then switched off and watched a documentary about Frank Sinatra on I Player, also seen before. What a voice, worth a rewatch.

Agree about Wimbledon, cricket, football…..

Calendargirl Sat 05-Jul-25 21:15:41

Also like Miss Marple, but have watched them so often I feel like one of the cast!

Redrobin51 Sat 05-Jul-25 21:37:47

Even though I love footie I would agree that there is far too much of it on Tv and don't start me on the cricket. I honestly can't see why the tennis has to be on 2 channels at once.

Well, I've done a Spelling Bee ......

I know how to live!

Back to Jeff Lynne.
Can’t be doing with Oasis!

henetha Sat 05-Jul-25 23:05:39

Thank goodness for Netflix!
