Great photos. Yes, May Queen would suggest English.
What about a cricket outfit?
In basic ballet, a thousand years ago, it seems, we were taught a polish dance.
On a more serious note, caught a headline in The National saying that a 'go fund me' was being set up by a convicted fraudster. Not sure if it's the same 'go fund me' as mentioned upthread.

Girl in Union Jack dress sent home on diversity day
(281 Posts)www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cyvj289y788o
Poor kid. I heard this on breakfast news and could not believe it. She is apparently a grade A student in her first year at High School and this will surely stay with her right through her school career now.
The school have apologised but what on earth were they thinking of in the first place?
I guess the buck stops with the Head Teacher and she should definitely be forced to take some training on being proud to be British.
I didn’t see that on the leaflet they were given. Was it a verbal instruction? It should have been part of the written information, don’t you think?
I think the whole thing was very poorly conceived.
Surely we have moved way past the whole tokenistic idea of celebrating diversity in this way.
And from the leaflet - which is all I really have in terms of concrete evidence - the school did not not omit the instructions on flags but also seems to be very confused about the difference between “culture” “heritage” “nationality” using them interchangeably or definition.
Obviously they were trying to achieve something, but dactyl what fails me.
add not just omit the instructions on flags
Sorry, that was a reply to Chardy

Diversity seems to be the worst thing to promote these days. A red rag to a bull to some people inviting trouble and controversy as we are seeing.
The Trump effect?
It is Maremia

When the USA sneezes, we catch a cold. Especially when our PM and Ambassador cosy-up so close!

What are the 5 main British Values?
The five core British values —democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, mutual respect, and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs— serve as the pillars of British society, influencing how individuals interact with each other and the state
Individual liberty is the freedom of individuals to make their own choices and pursue their own interests, within the bounds of the law and respecting the rights of others. It encompasses the right to express oneself freely, choose one's own beliefs, and participate in society without undue external constraints. This includes freedoms like speech, religion, and movement, but also the responsibility to act within the confines of the law and to respect the rights of others.
Maybe the school should have googled before sending pupils home

Well said.
All pupils are equal but some seem to be more equal than others.
Thank you JaneJudge
So they've closed the school early due to online abuse.
Whoever made the decision was wrong. The school appreciates this and had apologised.
No doubt it will all be forgotten when they go back in September
Social media is a beast.
I agree that when it's used in this way it is almost like a form of vigilantism

Maybe time we dropped the Union Jack from the corner of our flag if it means so little to the British these days ?
I think some of us have made it very clear that we respect our flag nanna8. Members of my family have fought under that flag as did many from other countries when the call was made.
I'm disgusted that it's treated as a petty game to some when it means so much that many thought of it as a symbol of the country they then gave their lives for.
How do you feel about your Australian flag?
I respect your flag. I hate the way so many don’t seem to these days. My parents were both in the RAF in the war and I totally respect and admire what they did. My great uncle fought and died under the Australian flag and I also respect and honour him. I do not honour the Palestinian flag, it is not mine and I do not support Hamas as so many seem to now. I can’t understand why flying a Union Jack is considered rascist . I really can’t.
I was enjoying a long walk in open countryside with a group of friends. We saw an England flag on its pole in a farmers front garden. Oh dear said a friend, racists live there. He was a Catholic from Northern Ireland, a lovely kind, sensible man. I challenged him, referring to Irish flags I’d seen flying in the north and well as Southern Ireland. What to do? I identify as English but support the union as well as English flag. It’s long past the stage where we should be afraid to support our flag and heritage .
Farmers want people to "Back British farming". That isn't racist, is it?
I do not support Hamas either nanna8 - but i don't believe "so many seem to now".
I also don't think the Palestinian flag is the Hamas flag, any more than our flag is the Labour flag or the German flag is the CDU flag.
We have 2 or 3 Union Jacks flown on poles in our village, they change too for events such as the Olympics or Christmas, nobody bats an eyelid.
That includes MrJ who’s from a Catholic family in Belfast, although he’s not practicing as he was also bought up to be accepting.
No doubt it will all be forgotten when they go back in September.
Yes, the school will be thanking its lucky stars that there's 6 weeks off for it all to go away. (Though the Head might be having sleepless nights over the summer break!)
That clean slate September feeling is such a nice feeling for everyone.

Well indeed - recruitment retention of teachers, police, social workers and more, no wonder we have problems

When a mistake is made that causes your child to miss school unfairly then the parent has an absolute right to challenge it. I would have done too. I would have approached the school with the view of allowing them to put things right and if they wouldn't, I would have publicised it too if I thought it was the only way to get justice.
I don’t disagree with you icanhandthemback. The entire episode was very badly handled by the school. Sadly teachers and other public servants live with the fear of ending up front page daily mail
Let's put this into context ......
It's a weapon that the parent can use against the school.
The school cannot publically explain the situation.
And most importantly, the school will NOT disclose any information about the child.
That is what posters on here meant by no one having the full story, or knowing the background.
If organisations behave in a ridiculous or discriminatory manner ( there is currently a thread running on organisations behaving in this way) then people need to have methods to challenge that behaviour. Now as I have said I am sure this father is tricksy to say the least but when schools behave in this way they are playing into the hands of people who may want to 'use' this behaviour against them.
