Do you have random love/hate relationships with people in the public eye?

I can't really explain what I mean but, on Breakfast this morning,Johnny Vegas, Feargal Sharkey and the man from the Bank of Dave have all been evoked that feeling.

Anyone else have similar feelings for other people? Or even understand what I'm talking about.

I dislike:

Jeremy Vine
Carol Voordaman
Greg Wallace
John Torrode - his eating habits set my teeth on edge
Marcus Waring
Prince Andrew
Kemi Badenoch
Nigel Fromage
Katie Price (I suspect 99% of her is now artificial)

I like:

Ian Hislop
John Bercow
Amal Rajan
Nigella Lawson
Jamie Oliver

I don't watch programmes that have people I dislike in them, but they include -

Carol Vorderman - full of herself
Denise Welch - loud and common
Jimmy Carr - Vulgar
Nana Munchety - Arrogant
Alexander Armstrong - fake
Amanda Holden - attention seeking
David Walliams - sleazy
Jeremy Vine - not sure why
Tim Vine - unfunny
Lenny Henry - unfunny and arrogant

Love: Simon Reeve
Many of the presenters in Escape to the Country, but especially, Sonali, Alistair, Jude, Denise,
David Mitchell, Lee Mack, Uncle Bryn Rob Brydon, for their razor sharp wit,
Nigella, Jamie and Nigel Slater they all have their place in my culinary heart

Dislikes: I haven't watched BBC Breakfast for ages, but I think Naga was irritating when she appeared to go off piste and have a tete -a tete with the weather woman Carol as if they weren't broadcasting to the nation but having a cosy chat over a cuppa. I can't stand all that false bonohomie nonsense, just give us the weather and news willya, anything else is superfluous.
Stacey Dooley, her accent I'm afraid!
Katie Price I mean the woman clearly has got problems, her face is increasingly resembling the mummified features of Ramses II's face.
Gary Lineker - insufferable and paid far too much.
Lily Allen and her mate Mesquita something or other, who did the podcast about how many abortions they'd had between them along the lines of "can't remember, maybe it was five" not that I'm anti abortion, but just so casual and making light of what is a heartbreaking, serious decision.
Eddie /Susie, I used to like he/she/them but then he/she/them morphed into an entitled lady knob sad

There'd be loads more in both categories those are the ones off the top of my head

Forgot Andrew Doyle a definite like, he was superb arguing against Yasmin Allibah- Brown who was all shrieky and getting the wrong end of the stick. So thumbs up for Andrew and Yasmin she can join the dislikes.

I have loved Declan Donnelly since Byker Grove. Micah Richards is absolutely joyous, I smile whenever he is on the screen. Love Susan Calman and Jane McDonald, two friendly down to earth woman. I HATE Mary Berry, patronising woman who thinks she is a national treasure. I have to turn television off when she appears. I cannot abide Brendan Cole the ex dancer from Strictly, he loved himself so much. I like Davina McCall and Jeremy Vine but my husband has to leave the room when either of them are on screen. Kate 1949 I agree with your brother, although I don't mind David Attenborough I do think he is a hypocrite preaching about the environment whilst spending his life flying around the world.

Bukkie Mon 21-Jul-25 18:42:48

I also love Alison Hammond, I find her warm, caring and hilarious. I do understand she is marmite though and lots of people don't like her. Martin Clunes and Neil Morrissey were two genuinely funny, caring men and their true friendship shone thron their recent roadtrip. Brilliant in Men Behaving Badly too.

I have a thing about men called Jeremy, I dislike:-

Jeremy Clarkson
Jeremy Kyle
Jeremy Paxman
Jeremy Vine
& Piers Morgan

I also dislike:-
Amanda Holdon
Katie Hopkins
Kirstie Allsopp
the late Cilla Black
Katherine Ryan
& Lucy Beaumont

Yes, I understand what you're talking about kitty.
I don't like Amanda Holden, Naga Munchetty, Alan Carr and Bettany Hughes (historian) ...... and would agree with you re Johnny Vegas......

I have no real idea why I can't take to these people.

However, I do like Jules Hudson (presenter), Jane Hill (newsreader), Matthew Rhys (actor), Keeley Hawes (actor) and Torvill & Dean.

I didn't like Naga [althought to be fair I rarely watch breakfast tv] but she's now on Must Watch on Radio 4 with Hayley Campbell and she's great on that; really good fun. I don't like Bettany Hughes; I usually watch the sort of programmes she makes but rarelty watch the ones she presents.

eazybee Mon 21-Jul-25 18:51:51

I really cannot bear listening to Keir Starmer, His delivery is so poor, he seems to read most of his speeches, and when he is questioned his voice becomes nasal in a high register and he speaks far too quickly. And he is a barrister. A great disappointment.
I simply mute the TV until he has finished.

Oh I met Alison & her son Aiden when I was working at the local theatre. She was playing the fairy Godmother in the pantomime.
She was so lovely, warm & chatty. Exactly as she is on the TV.
Also, Alison is even more beautiful in the flesh too.. 😉

Mariella Frostrup. I didn’t mind her until she made some really scathing, literary-snob remarks about the sort of novels so many women enjoy (rom coms).

Plus I now find that she sounds very smug and self satisfied, so all the ads on Classic FM really put me off Fever Tree mixers!

Casdon Mon 21-Jul-25 20:24:44

I forgive Mariella, she’s my style icon.

People I have a love/hate relationship with are
Dawn French
David Mitchell
Janet Street-Porter

People I really can’t watch because they annoy me
Michael McIntyre
Beth Rigby
James Martin

People I love
Nigel Slater
Rick Stein
George from sunny Joppa (I like most gardening presenters but I have a soft spot for George, because he is so knowledgeable)

M0nica

for some reason Brian Cox(the scientist) sets my teeth on edge whenever he appears.

Me too! Tho everyone seems to think he’s wonderful.
It may be the soppy grin, I don’t really know.

lixy Mon 21-Jul-25 20:39:59

I find national treasure Michael Ball difficult to believe; can’t decide how sincere he is, but I do enjoy listening to his singing.

Similarly with Elaine Paige - that trade mark giggle puts my teeth on edge but lovely singing voice.

Paddy McGuiness has no redeeming features I’m afraid!

Grandma70s

Naga Munchetty is getting a bad press here! I think she’s OK.

I think everyone likes David Attenborough.

No Grandma70s!! Not everybody. I cannot stand David Attenborough!!
He gives me the creeps. 🤔

I too wasn’t a fan of Naga Munchetty until I became aware of the work, public speaking she’s done for speaking up for women with endometriosis.
As you would imagine she’s doesn’t pull her punches on her opinion of Drs treating ( or not 🤬) women with this very painful condition.
