Labour MPs Rachael Maskell, Neil Duncan-Jordan, Brian Leishman and Chris Hinchliff were told they had lost the party whip on Wednesday afternoon for repeatedly rebelling against the government.

A Labour source told the Guardian the whip was being removed from “persistent rebels”, while a further three Labour MPs were stripped of their government trade envoy roles.

He’s closing down dissent by removing the whip from the rebels.

I expect they are terrified.

Starmer needs to listen to his MPs, but even more important, he needs to listen to the electorate. He should have visited Epping, Diss and Canary Wharf and shown some concern before dashing off to sit at Trump's feet..

I know that. But he hasn’t removed it from as many people as Johnson did in one swoop.No matter what he does people criticise. One minute he’s weak. The next he’s ruthless.

Aren’t all politicians in leadership roles criticised in this country? Should Starmer have it easy?

Trump got in because he conned people by telling them lots of lies, when there was no credible opposition. Like Farage, he is a reflector, not a leader, he has no manners, and no understanding of how to get other countries on board with his ideas - ultimately he is just a big I am.

I don’t personally think that is the future of politics, I think it’s just another phase. People want certainty about their worlds, and so far at least, he isn’t providing that because he is not delivering on his promises to his own people, and he is an arch ditherer on both trade and world security. Politics will certainly be more media led in the future, but I believe there will be a leaning back towards morality.

I am hoping that he's a 'one off'.

I think the country was getting close indeed to being wishy washy for fear of offending minorities, but thankfully the tide is turning.
Think of police and teachers and social services worrying about being called racist in regard to the grooming gangs.
Think about how close we got to accepting the rabbit hole of trans nonsense until courts decided a woman was a biologically born female.

Just because you’ve seen no posts that support that Iam64 doesn’t mean there haven’t been any. Logically, if we continue to allow these undocumented male migrants from the boats, the Afghans shipped over supposedly afraid of the Taliban, not to mention the areas in Leicester, Tower Hamlets etc which are predominantly Muslim, where do you think, logically, this country will end up in 20-30 years time? Many posters on here support unfettered immigration into the UK, anyone who dares to challenge those views is called heartless, racist amongst many other things. Not that it bothers me. It’s their way of shutting down dissent, rather like Starmer is with his backbenchers.

Because woodenspoon is right.
Many areas of the UK are now ( and have been for a while ) predominantly Muslim. And that situation will only increase.
And you’re not bothered in the slightest - which is baffling because Muslims have very traditional, some might say, right wing, views.

The Americans voted for Trump. They like him. Sure some didn’t they’d prefer Biden. But plenty voted for Trump. Americans do things differently than here where it’s all wishywashy and fear of offending minorities. Trump May be offensive to some on Gransnet but not to all in the wider scheme of things.

No other country puts migrants up in hotels, all expenses paid, allows them bank cards, lets them commit crimes without fear of deportation, allows Taliban into the country amongst the Afghan airlift ( Daily Telegraph), our own soldiers living on the street while the Afghans are housed. Also just read 85 Sharia courts in the UK. Still, according to some gransnetters those who think this is disgusting, of which I am one, is a racist. Well so be it.

We are not discussing regular migration/immigration which occurs worldwide, we are discussing irregular migration.

Irregular migration, mostly young men, with absolutely no documentation, which makes it difficult for the HO to find out who exactly they are and where they are from.

Did you see how uncomfortable Starmer looked when Trump spoke about illegal immigration? He squirmed and waffled on with a load of rubbish that made no sense.

Then when Trump said he didn’t like Sadiq Khan because he was a nasty man, Starmer backed away and said Khan was his friend. 🤣

I was pleased to see Starmer continuing to be diplomatic with Trump, at the same time mentioning his friendship with the London Mayor

As for not protesting about the Muslim community in my town, why would I want to.
