The US president said that a ā€œhorrible invasionā€ was taking place, adding it had to ā€œstopā€, shortly after touching down on Air Force One at Glasgow Airport.

ā€œAsked about illegal migration to Britain, Mr Trump said: ā€œOn immigration you better get your act together or you’re not going to have Europe anymore.ā€
He continued: ā€œYou’ve got to stop this horrible invasion that is happening to Europe, many countries in Europe.ā€
ā€œSome leaders have not let it happen, and they’re not getting the proper credit... I could name them to you right now, but I’m not going to embarrass the other ones. But stop, this immigration is killing Europe.ā€
Mr Trump, who has made border control a key priority of his presidency, said: ā€œLast month we had nobody entering our country.ā€

Well done Trump. He’s not wrong! šŸ‡¬šŸ‡§

I am happy to have foxes in my country but I don't want them in my home. The same applies to bagpipe players and goodness knows what else.

There is no reason why anyone would feel the need to give a bedroom to everyone and anyone just because they don't feel they are a national threat - that logic is beyond muddled.

All those who don’t mind how many rock up on our shores with no ID may like to offer their own guest bedrooms.
Just a thought.šŸ˜„

Oh please. Not that old chestnut again.

I have the nagging doubts that so very many are given leave to stay that it’s become the easiest option rather than a proper vetting procedure as to if they are really true asylum seekers.
This problem has become increasingly worrisome for all of Europe in the last twenty years.

Oh yes, the old ones are the best ones šŸ˜‚ and sorts the wheat from the chaff where misplaced do-gooding is concerned.

Perhaps if not a room, offer to sponsor one. Befriend them. Have them as an extended family member rather like exchange students. Pop round for a meal, get them integrated into the British way of life. Hmmm.

No? I thought not.

It wasn’t when we were asked to host Ukrainians though was it, and people jumped at the opportunity.
I wonder why they don’t in this case?

The sheer number of people entering the UK in an illegal manner has become a national threat.
Some just refuse to recognise that fact.

Them? It’s almost as if you think of them as an alien race. Or. Dare I say subhuman sad.

I agree. No logic whatsoever.

Perhaps the process could be accelerated?

Perhaps they are. Would you be so magnanimous if they decided to blow us up, stab us, get the machetes out. Or would it be some other poor soul who suffers that, just as in the past.

It means in this case the people under discussion.

I’m not sure that many refuse to recognise the problems with so many people seeking asylum. The issue is how to reduce or stop the numbers arriving from boats or Lorrie’s
Would working with thevFrench or other European countries to enable people to start an asylum application to the UK from France or Germany for examples
We certainly need to speed up processing

Maybe you should read the previous post by wooden spoon Oreo. I’m in no doubt as to how they regard the people arriving here in boats…

Oreo Thu 31-Jul-25 19:34:19

That would at least mean that the host country, in this case France would pay/ house them prior to us granting or not granting asylum here.
Would France be prepared to do that I wonder.

That’s just your opinion.
There won’t be many that begrudge real asylum seekers sanctuary here but the numbers now arriving all over Europe have now mushroomed to huge proportions and contain very many who are looking to make more money, economic migrants. Why should they be welcomed?

MayBee70 Thu 31-Jul-25 19:57:18

This thread is imo very very unpleasant...

woodenspoon Thu 31-Jul-25 19:59:45

Nobody begrudges real asylum seekers coming to the UK providing they work, don’t commit crime, integrate.

This situation we have is not that. Far from it.

woodenspoon Thu 31-Jul-25 20:00:49

If it’s unpleasant to you MayBee 70, nobody is forcing you to read and respond. You choose to do that.

Someone said to me recently, in real life, that illegal[not sure how illegal is classed in the US], immigrants coming in from Mexico have been stopped as Trump increased, or was it lowered, trade tariifs.
Not sure how true that is.
If true, then in theory at least, Sir Kier could do that to France.

How's it working out, StripeyGran?

We have had posters on here who hosted Ukrainian families, some positive posts, some not.
