What wakes you up in the morning?

Usually it’s needing the loo! Or arthritic pain.
I’m currently away from home on a summer school on a university campus. I’ve been awake a while, but I’m guessing everyone in the building is awake now at 6.30, as the bin lorry has just been. That made enough noise in itself, then the men were shouting as they worked, but what really amused me was an automated voice, in the poshest of accents, announcing
“ Stand clear. Vehicle reversing”.

Either my bladder, painful legs or on bin day people putting the bins out.

The broken manhole outside the bedroom window!! Usually about 5 am when cars start coming down the road and it starts to 'click clack'

I regularly report the problem to the council, the local councillor and the MP, as do the neighbours, and we thought that relief was on the way when someone came, took photos and painted a blue cross on it. That was 2 months ago and it's still click clacking.

Don't quite know how that happened but there are men digging up the road!!!

The power of gransnet!!

The sea gulls nesting across the way. Noisy neighbours, is what they are.

My alarm clock usually, at 7.45am. Or my bladder. I always get up immediately as I don't like lying in bed.

annodomini Mon 28-Jul-25 11:16:59

The jackdaws that roost in a nearby tree usually do the job at dawn; when I have dropped off again, my 'Alexa' is set to 7.05am which gives me an hour to digest a load of pills before breakfast. Well, that's the plan, but 'the best laid plans ..... gang aft agley'.

At present? worrying.

In Springtime as the days lengthen its the lovely birdsong which brings a sleepy smile around 4.30 am- I usually drop straight back off afterwards. Then around 7am 'him indoors' gets up so I wake up properly then, have TIB around 8am, read the Good Morning thread , and get up around 8.30-9am! As FGT would say #️⃣lazygran.

Btw, not wishing to hijack the thread as I've mentioned FGT I've got her some flowers. Worrying probably means she's not getting off to sleep easily either. I hope each day as 'himself' gets a little stronger her shoulders drop a little too. x

I seem to have an internal alarm clock. I wake between six and seven, almost always. Have never slept late, not even when I was a teenager.

Me too!

crazyH Mon 28-Jul-25 11:54:52

FGT - hope things get easier flowers

My body clock wakes me, extremely early and I get up straight away. I’ve never needed an alarm.
I always have the curtains drawn back a bit so that I can watch the progress of the night. I could never sleep with blackout curtains, so claustrophobic.

My sciatica! Had it for 1.5 years now.

The seagulls on the field along with the birds in my garden, as I sleep with the window wide open.

I have to have the window open too, it’s been open for weeks now. We do get the Dawn chorus as we have a lot of trees close by but I like it, I’m usually awake anyway, I just doze after about 4am.

I am like you waterneadow. I wake very early every morning, anytime from 4.30/5 am onwards. It’s not a need for the bathroom. A real treat would be to sleep until 7 am. Or woukd be happy with 6. I have tried closing the curtains , makes no difference so usually leave them open.
I listen to world service and don’t get to sleep again.
I go to bed about 10.45 and currently sleep ok.

pably15 Mon 28-Jul-25 13:08:24

usually toilet call early then back to sleep till neighbour starts shouting and banging doors...

6 am. All my life, I've woken up at 6 am on the dot. How I love that early morning freshness.
As a teenager, I used to get up and got for a walk along the river, or a swim. As a teacher, I had a good hours to plan my day. As a young mum, I'd make a cuppa just as the baby woke for the first feed, and sit in a chair with tea and baby, perfect bliss.

These days my first thought at 6 am is " time for a wee". As soon as I come out of the bathroom my dog has the same thought and we pop outside together. He sniffs everything and pees on all the best bits; I sniff the air. Dark, light, rain or sun, I still love 6 am.

Dogs, myself, my husband -- between five and six.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Mon 28-Jul-25 13:41:40

I love the sound of all that butterandjam.
Thanks kitty some days are just harder than others and the fears lurk. Your hug is most welcome.
