‘Preferred’ Presenters.

Sitting here eating my breakfast, listening to Classic FM as usual.

Aled Jones is hosting the Breakfast show, standing in for Dan Walker, obviously on holiday.

I much prefer Aled’s dulcet tones to Dan’s rather strident, excitable way of presenting, with his dog walkers comments and hearing about some listener’s experience with their own Fido.

Set me thinking how the evening BBC News has preferred presenters, (Clive Myrie, Reta Chakrabarty, Jane Hill) to some of the others, likewise with the weather presenters.

Still, wouldn’t do if we all thought alike, would it?

Anyone is better than Richard Madeley on GMB. I don't know how Kate Garraway didn't lose it with him the other day, he wouldn't let her, or anyone else speak without speaking over him.

George Aligiah was my favourite newsreader. Nobody will ever come close to the irreplaceable Terry Wogan on the radio. Probably very controversial but I love Ant and Dec. They make me cry with laughter on I am a Celebrity.

I much prefer that Ooh Gary Davis is sitting in again for Vernon Kay radio 2 show this morning, love Jo Whiley on an evening also.

I wish the BEEB would replace Sara Cox with Gary Davis. Much more relaxing for a Drive Time slot. Ms Cox is a bit too frantic.

I find Vernon Kay so irritating, manic and he mansplains everything over and over, how he got that spot is beyond me, but Scott Mills before him is good.

I am surprised people still watch BBC news. Its full on propaganda.

Kloppqueen Fri 15-Aug-25 13:43:06

I like James O"Brien and Nick Abbot on LBC. Another shout out to Roger Johnson on North West news.

I find that with all news programs, but the propaganda is easier to spot in a program you don’t like.

I love Nick Ferrari on LBC and listen every morning. However I switch off immediately at 10.00 when the egotistical James O’Brien comes on

Amol Rajan likes the sound of his own voice too much for me. He asks a question and then qualifies it……just let them answer!

fannynotgranny Fri 15-Aug-25 13:57:39

Absolutely

DamaskRose Fri 15-Aug-25 14:02:27

I like Amol Rajan, Justin Webb, Aled Jones and Dan Walker.
Don’t like Clive Myrie, Naga Munchetty.
Can’t stand Alexander Armstrong and could stand Terry Wogan.
I think I’m out of step with a lot of you! 😉

I like Paddy McGuiness and Dermot O’Leary, used to enjoy Michael Balls show until he took over Love songs find that programme cringy especially the letter bit 😳

DamaskRose Fri 15-Aug-25 14:03:44

Sorry, couldn’t stand Terry Wogan!

I like Carol Kirkwood the weather presenter

Me too, but maybe too much in my case, as I can watch her for 10 minutes and still have no idea what the weather will be like!

gransruleok Fri 15-Aug-25 14:06:09

Oh no, can’t stand ‘Ooh Gary Davis’ at any price.

gransruleok Fri 15-Aug-25 14:08:06

Michael Ball is much too syrupy for me.

Casdon Fri 15-Aug-25 14:10:32

I really like Dermot O’Leary too, he plays excellent music, I always have to go and look something up that I like. He also does excellent interviews with interesting experts in their fields, not usually music related, so listening to him is a learning experience.

TheHappyGardener Fri 15-Aug-25 14:11:14

Well I LOVE Vernon Kay, and miss him when he’s not on Radio 2 in the morning. He seems a straightforward, normal kind of chap with more than a bit of commonsense about him! Something sadly missing in life these days! Cannot abide Jeremy Vine - he’s switched off as soon as OH or I start shouting at the radio (which is most days!!). Not a great fan of Scott Mills either, but I do like Sara Cox! I also listen to Tony Blackburn’s Golden Hour on ‘catch-up’ (BBC Radio Sounds) - his jokes are as cringeworthy as ever, but he plays music from the 60s and 70s that I love!

Willow500 Fri 15-Aug-25 14:13:54

I must be completely out of step with everyone - never listen to radio and only watch ITV news! shock

Bookfan Fri 15-Aug-25 14:19:07

Enjoying Classic FM Calm as there are no‘ presenters’ !

Etoile2701 Fri 15-Aug-25 14:23:04

I like all the weather presenters especially Tomasz Schafernaker

Fatoldlady Fri 15-Aug-25 14:26:37

Our regional BBC news has Peter Levy - don't watch it at all as I can't stand the man, he's soo rude when he's interviewing people, constantly interrupting and talking over them and implying they are wrong.

Harris27 Fri 15-Aug-25 14:45:14

Love Gary Davies as well. I listen to Tina hob,ey and angie greaves.

Harris27 Fri 15-Aug-25 14:45:53

Sorry that went too quickly on smooth radio.

Irismarle Fri 15-Aug-25 14:57:53

I also prefer presenters who seem more self-effacing. I like Sophie Raworth but I find Clive Myrie and especially Amol Rajan much too much projecting as celebrities - of course they are in many programmes and hence overexposed, I think. On Today, I really like the new signing, Anna Foster, and Justin Webb who are very calm and have soothing voices.
