Good morning from Bristol. I noticed cars covered in dew! Another hit (high 20’s C) forecast.
May all your youngsters have had the results they hoped for yesterday, and the future they projected.
Yesterday was odd being very cloudy and breezy in the morning, then sunny, hot and still in the afternoon.
The Taichi class was less energetic than usual but we still got a jolly good workout.
I didn’t dine at DD’s as usual, their lives being “complicated”. Iris was volunteering with St. John’s Ambulance at some local music festival.
One of the AgeUK volunteers gave me a bagful of fabric strips from his late wife. I have started to make a random strip quilt; I’ll give it to the hospice shop when done. It’s fun and a change to the one I’m making at present.
This afternoon, I shall help some church ladies to sort out the two kitchens. Because noon3 person is in charge or goes to all the things, people are frightened to dispose of out of date things, rationalise the 20 packets of herbal tea, or whatever. It’s going to be interesting, especially as I’m one of those “throw it away” people. Do we really need to keep the 30 odd tablecloths used twice a year, easily accessible?
May those with their personal Everest to climb, find it less daunting. Hugs all round.
Carpe diem 🦩🦩🦩🦩

Good morning from a very warm Torbay, with the heat not helping sleep. Today is the Feast of the Assumption.

I hope you aren’t overdoing it, Mick, following your heart problem. Take care.

Thank you for the kind good wishes for olddudders, who reached home safely yesterday evening, despite issues on the Metro. Back here, my DS and DG3 enjoyed the delights of crazy golf where the latter managed a hole in one and has the evidence on record as his Dad was filming at the time! They also went on the boating lake and visited the fairground. Later they joined me for a takeaway from our local award winning chippy (Hanburys)

I hope everyone has as good a day as possible. 🦩💐🦩🥰🦩

Good morning from south Glos, it’s a bit misty here and pleasantly cool.
Off to art group this morning, I’m looking forward to seeing the lovely people there again. I’ll take my coloured pencils I think, I have a drawing to finish and ideas for the next one.
I might do some needlework this afternoon, I haven’t done any for months, it’s too hot for knitting at the moment, roll on cooler days please 🙏
I hope today goes well for you all x

Good morning Mick and everyone from a dull morning in Cheshire where it's currently 16C. The forecast is for a warm sunny day with a gentle breeze which will be refreshing. It's been a sneezy morning with a high pollen count.

My sleep pattern is crazy, and I've been working on my crochet for a couple of hours already. The day is mine with no pressure to be anywhere or do anything, so some light housework and gardening in preparation for the family descending on Monday. Thankfully because of all the good weather everything is clean and ready. Must do a food order to stock the fridge and freezer. I always tell them to bring an appetite.

Wishing all a good day. Special thoughts for the sick and worried. flowers

Good morning Mick and all GN's on a still rather greyish morning but with a lemon sort of sunrise beginning.

I am being careful and hope that this gets to you ok. Had quite lot to do yesterday but read the posts and sent quite a post wishing Mick all the best after his scare, commenting on other peoples posts and bring you up to date with my doings. Sent it in and hey presto it just disappeared into the ether, never to be seen again. I was very annoyed and tried to see if I could get it back but by then was due at a meeting and had to go and leave it , so fingers crossed it does not happen today.!

I will have tohpe that I dont miss anything out that mattered, and that you can follow the story! So on wednesday, it was a fine day and had planned to meet a friend somewhere near Guisborough and then travel on together to Robin Hoods Bay in his car. Set off and got behind a highway maintenance thing with a trailer with machinery in it, which made it both slow and long. All single carriage way and there was one other car in front of me, who either a) had just past his test and was very nervous b) had just bought his car and neither knew its length or its acceleration power or c) was just an idiot!! This wretched man kept tailgating and then veering out to see if he could pass and constantly just chickening out, or was incapable of judging distances. So it was a rubbish journey and I was late. However we met in Cafe Nero, I had a quick coffee and then we both went on to a carpark where it was safe to leave my car. I was then quite happy to be the passenger and calm down and off we went. He had brought his rather lovely collie dog Moss with him. So we arrived at RHB, where you have to park at the top and then walk down quite a steep path with higgledy piggledy steps, too wide to take one step , two narrow to let you walk in any sensible rhythm. However we wandered down, and of course in hot weather mode, I moved across to remain in the shade. Lovely morning, tide out and rock pools and small boats dried out on the beach. We took our time and Moss was obviously enjoying himself as his first time there and so looked at each garden and seating area etc. Being wednesday, it was still quite busy but nothing like the weekend and so we were able to go right down and into a small pub into the cool and had lovely crab sandwiches and I had some cider. So had some fortification for the long hard walk up again. We went back to my car and I set off in good time to be back in time to go to whist and have a shower etc. Huh the day continued to be hassle. They say it pays to advertise!! Well a large lorry had broken down just on the Stokesly roundabout, blocking one lane completely and causing much chaos and havoc and delay. All the side of the lorry advertised that they did events and wedding marquees etc and were reliable and available etc!! Dont think the situation supported that view, and people had to look at it for quite a long time until they could get past. So again when I got home it was a very quick coffee and a wash and off to whist. Good job I went quickly as it was very busy and the car park full and a job to get parked. Had a lovely evening with friends, despite some rubbish hands with no trumps etc, and then home very weary.

As a diabetic you get rules told to you about your feet. Not supposed to go barefoot etc etc. They are vunerable, and I regretfully stick to the rules outside and no longer wander with bare feet on the grass, which I miss. But inside , dont bother so much, So went into my bedroom for something and managed to gash my foot on something. It absolutely poured with blood and I couldnt get it to stop for ages. So with a trail of blood from the bedroom into the bathroom and kitchen worthy of Midsummer Murders, I eventually got it to stop so left everything and got gingerly into bed .

Thursday my foot was very painful and I was very weary, so it was some catching up with chores, put the bedding and towels in to wash to hide the blood cues, sent you a post wich didnt work, and then off to my meeting on the yellow peril. Fortunately that went well and then, to the bank, and supermarket and other bits and pieces, getting home with a sore foot, and the back complaining of my not walking properly . So very weary, but had left all the curtains closed and it was cool to get back into the flat. Collected my dry washing from the line and spent the afternnon, slowly recuperating, restoring things to their rightful place, and generally taking things quietly. My eye seemed to be worse not better and still scratchy, but after a busy week probably I should be resting a bit more. So intentions today are to get the local paper, find out what is happening in the villages, see if there is an agricultural show reasonably locally , but if it hot, it willbe watering new plants and in the evening setting them out to see where I want them to be, and then giving them another days soaking before trying to get them planted up.

So Mick , You gave yourself and us a scare. Do hope that you are now feeling much better and will take things very easy for the next few days.Hope you get to meet up with some good friends today.GrandMattie I hope your clear out goes well. I can be rather a mix of both sorts of people. When I am in the mood I can attack and drawer or room and throw loads of things out and make clear decisions. On another day, if I am not feeling ver well making a decision to toast a teacake or eat it plain takes an effort and I feel I have chosen the wrong decision!Ashcombe, how lucky that grandad was able to photo the hole in one. If he turns out to be a new Tiger Woods as an adult that will be proof of his innate ability!

Well hope there will be the equivalent of hole in one moments today for everyone. I shall now hobble off for some much needed coffee to enjoy with my Bach.

Good morning all from Polmont where it's currently 15°, quite still and clear skies. Madeleine watch your foot for infection. Although how you watching a foot, is beyond me! GrandMattie I am a ruthless thrower outer of stuff. Ash crazy golf is a must when you are away from home. Well done that boy!
Yesterday the painter arrived as I was chatting to a neighbour. I sorted his bacon roll and headed out to the hospice shop with a bootful of stuff. Sadly, they would take less than half. So all the children's books and toys are still in my boot. On the way home, I took the car to be cleaned. Impulsively I asked them to valet it and they had space so I ended up walking home. The young man offered to get someone to give me a lift, being old with bad feet, but walking is good for me so off I toddled.
I did some admin at home and half an hour of Spanish and walked back later to pick up my gleaming car. The painter has completely finished the living room and most of the hall. He'll be back next Wednesday to carry on with the rest.
Today I'll start to put my living room back together. As everything from five rooms is in the dining rooms, it'll be like that programme The Crystal Maze manoeuvring past stuff and hoping nothing falls. First I will retrieve the curtains. This morning, dd is coming to inspect the colour , then we are going back to the furniture shop to look at the rugs. I want to buy a couple tnee table lamps too. Then we'll go for coffee and cake as the shop has an excellent café. I'll work in the school library this afternoon. No ideas for dinner. I expect it'll be something out of the freezer. I need to empty the fridge too. Have a good day all

Glad to see the King is going to mark the anniversary of VJ day. My dad fought in Burma, India,in Egypt for a while . He was with the South Staffordshire regiment. My dad was a very proud man . He didn't believe in campaign medals as he said we did what we where told for peace . He said medals where for acts or courage and bravery and hated people who talk about what they did to the enemy.
Dad said we did things and had things done to us that no one should be proud of . We did our duty for freedom.

He would tell funny stories. He never admitted he was wounded until my children where pre teens . When asked where he said Cairo. Took few more years before he told us he was stabbed in the back. He never told mom until he told us.

Dad proudly marched every remembrance day . And he only had to hear a marching band and he cried.

Whiff Fri 15-Aug-25 07:06:14

Madeleine please get your foot checked out. I hurt my big toe few weeks a go and got cellulitis and had to have antibiotics. I have had it before on my leg but didn't realise you could get it on your feet.
Please get it checked today especially as you are diabetic. People don't realise cellulitis can turn to sepsis.

Good morning from Holland. I've been here a week now and the weather has been glorious, some days a little too hot.
This morning we need to stock up on supplies. This means a long walk to the only large supermarket. We have our trusty trolley and plenty of strong bags.
We've walked miles over the last few days so I'm feeling fitter than I usually do. Mind you I've also drunk lots of Dutch beer !!!
I hope you all have a lovely day and a pleasant weekend, best wishes to all xx

Good morning from another glorious hot and sunny day in S E Essex.

I hope Gingster is ok after her eye procedure yesterday 🌸

Take it easy Mick after your heart scare.

I hope your foot is easier today Madeleine 🌸

I am off to the gym this morning, then have a cup of tea and catch up afterwards. DH and I are going out to dinner with friends tonight, (an Italian restaurant overlooking the sea) we can imagine we are on holiday.

Thinking of our poorly friends and those with troubles 🙋‍♀️

Good morning from Durham. Bright blue sky here already. Had a lovely afternoon yesterday with DD1 and family at our local Park.
I’m meeting a friend for coffee at 10.30. Her DGD’s results are nowhere near as good as hoped - she spends too much time on social media - but is able to continue on her course.
At last DD1 has completed my PoA forms, so I’ll drop those off with my Solicitor. Late walk with Little Dog before dark, which I’m enjoying and it helps me sleep.

Best wishes to all.

X

Good morning from mid Essex, dry warm and sunny again. Another hot day to come. DD2 is looking after all four granddaughters today and plans to take them to a beach.
Yesterday I walked to the paper shop quite early, then pottered around in the house and garden. In the afternoon I dropped off a card to a friend who is having a hip replacement operation today, then took a card to some friends whose eldest son had sadly died on Sunday,

grandmattie I hope you are able to sort out the church kitchens and get rid of all the out of date foodstuffs.

ashcombe I’m pleased that your DH reached home safely. Nice that your DS and DGS are having an enjoyable time with you.

Nothing planned for today, a walk after breakfast, then maybe a little light housework, nothing too energetic!

Have the best day possible everyone, thinking of those who are struggling with health issues.

NanKate Fri 15-Aug-25 07:17:39

Good morning Mick and All from a swelteringly hot South Bucks.

Your Dad sounds like a brave soldier Whiff who did his bit for home and country. My Dad’s role was entertainment for the troops and he set up films in fields in France to help keep up their morale. He went on to run a chain of cinemas around the country. No wonder his grandson and great grandchildren are film buffs.

kittylester Fri 15-Aug-25 07:22:02

Good morning all from a bright North Leicestershire. It is predicted to be slightly cooler today thankfully.

We are very proud grandparents today. DGS3 got 3 A* in his A levels and DGS4 played for Derby County Shadow Squad.

Today I have to go to Waitrose and to collect a GF loaf from a nearby baker. It hat better be good at £5. A price with paying if it is good.

This afternoon we are going to see DGD3 in a play at the end of an acting course.

Have the best day possible everyone.

Grandmabatty Fri 15-Aug-25 07:26:41

Kittylester well done to both your grandsons

karmalady Fri 15-Aug-25 07:28:19

Good morning from s somerset, very hot with full sun until evening

I finished my jumper yesterday from my spun wool. It is short sleeved and roomy to go over any top, dress, skirt or trousers. Heavy because of the 3 ply spin and just a useful top that will last forever because of the way I plied it

I sorted my room and am ready for the gansey wool to arrive, the jumper for my son will be big (53" ) so this time I will not be using my chiaogoo interchangeables and have ordered Seeknit Japanese fixed circulars with nice bamboo tips There will be a lot of weight on them and I don`t want to worry about breaking the very thin interchangeable cable that goes with the size 2.5 and 2 tips, also as the tips are so very thin, bamboo will be kinder on my fingers, better than stainless steel

In the meantime, my house is tidy and clean, just the basic jobs to do, which are part of everyday life.

I am going to make more special scrummy stir fry to top with mozarella and heat just before eating. Being just veg portions, they will easily keep in my fridge for three days. I want to use part of my organic order, which has just arrived, as well as finish this and that from my fridge drawers. I have a pack of padron peppers and small sweet peppers and will include the lot also the medium sized yellow courgette which was a gift

DGS A level results are very good in three most difficult subjects. He can now choose his career path but will likely have a year out before he decides. He already has a summer job and will likely work there for the year. Good decision

I will need to be indoors for most of today, too hot outside but will work out my next spinning profile, wanting a lofty thin strand to just make a light two ply.

Moving day for some today and I will be having a new single-lady neighbour, as always I keep my distance, always friendly and helpful but never imposing nor intrusive. I start as I mean to go on and expect the same in return, hence we are all on very good terms in my area. It is tricky to start but is worth it, all I will do today is quickly introduce myself, ask about her and wish her the best. No chat and certainly no gossip from me

Have a good day

Good morning from a sunny midlands. I didn’t sleep good last night. Estrangement is horrible. Feel sad for the times I’ve missed with my daughter. Hugs to all suffering.

Good morning everyone from Inverness, we’ve light grey cloud but it’s still very warm
Take care with your foot madeleine
An Italian dinner overlooking the sea sounds idyllic GG - enjoy!
No gym today so hoping to enjoy time pottering in the garden and catching up on a few jobs at home. Maybe a coffee out somewhere too
Well done to your DGSs kitty and all other DGC celebrating in one way or another
How awful for your friend redcar sending condolences
Thinking of everyone with worries and struggles, hope today is gentle and take care all whatever the day brings 💐

glammagran Fri 15-Aug-25 07:35:56

Good morning from sunny and slightly cooler Wiltshire.

DGD1 got into her first choice of Newcastle University with A*AA to do an economics and business degree. She’d worked her socks off so we are all very proud of her.

Looking after the 2 youngest GCs on Wednesday was a game of two halves. In the morning we went to a large park in Lydiard Tregoze with an array of extremely scary looking playground equipment. GS2 (4) was reasonably cautious but GD3 (7 next week) climbed up a rope structure about 25 feet off the ground. I almost had heart failure but she was fearless. Photo of GD near top of ropes. They both loved the zip wire. After that we played with bats and balls in the park. GS2 is far better at whacking a ball than his sister. Things started to go downhill when we went into the rather tatty café with hardly any food so we left and drove to a restaurant about 3 miles away. They both declared all the menu choices were awful so we left there too. We ended up with sandwiches from Waitrose which we ate in the car. From then on they fought nonstop for the rest of the day. I needed a lie down in a dark room when DH took them back home.

Yesterday we shopped and collected parcels from M&S and Next before going to a pub in Lacock on the way home. Too many wasps to sit in the pub garden though.

I’m sorry you’ve had such a scare Mick. Take it easy. Hope everyone under the weather feels better soon. Enjoy you cruise Pantsglas.

Greyduster Fri 15-Aug-25 07:39:16

Good morning, Michael and all GNs from an already very warm South Yorkshire. My milk had gone off this morning so I am drinking black coffee, which I hate. Not a good start to the day. We had a lovely meal at a Thai restaurant last night - the nicest curry I have ever eaten. The restaurant was super busy. I drove home in near gloaming with the sun going down and I wish I had stopped the car to watch it but I don’t like the country roads in the dark. I made do with the last of the glorious light over the fields and salmon pink tinges to the clouds.
Today, because it’s so warm I might spend the day doing more work on my watercolour to be. The drawing came out well.
Georgesgran if it’s any consolation to your friend, it may not have much to do with social media - a lot of youngsters who have been clocking up As and A stars in mocks all year have suddenly found themselves with disappointing results because the grade boundaries have been raised this year. It’s shocked even the teachers.
Have the best day you can, folks.

ginny Fri 15-Aug-25 07:40:24

Good morning, another sunny start in N.Bucks.
I have a busy day on the horizon. Washing to put on a dry then an online art lesson . After I must take my friends wedding and engagement rings down to the jewellers to be enlarged .
Apples to peel and stew ready to freeze and make a.banana loaf and some scones. Later a quick tidy around the garden and decide what to do with with a large container in which to all the annuals seem to have given up, I suspect insects have eaten the roots. Another art class this evening.
Healing thoughts to those who need them and a good day wished for all.

Jaxjacky Fri 15-Aug-25 07:41:23

Morning from a sunny S Hants, it’s very ‘buggy’ this year, I’ve had couple of small bites and feel itchy.
Stretch class this morning although I’ve got a slight cold, MrJ is full of cold and is not happy.
I hope your foot heals well Madeleinel
We have the grandchildren here tonight, daughter going out, granddaughter working at our pub, I shall go and collect her at 10:30. Early start for grandson tomorrow, being picked up at 8am, off to football training.

I was amused by the crazy golf story. It reminded me that, when he was about 8, my Philip was bullied a lot by DS1 who is 3 years older. On holiday, they played and Philip won! To his brother’s fury.
After Philip died (aged 39), I went through his wallet and found the score card. Philip had told me that it was one of his finest hours! 👏❤️
