Good morning from Bristol. Just getting light; the days are getting shorter.
Iris had a very good day with her RDA nationals. To her delight (and ours, of course), she came 3rd! Last night,, the girls went off to Green Belt, leaving SiL at home.
I wasn’t best pleased with the management; I didn’t leave the flat after 7 am, in anticipation of a visit from someone to look at my heater. Not a soul came, no explanation…. Grrr
While waiting, I got on with both my patchworks. I’ve nearly finished the strip one. I shall give it to the hospice shop when done.
I have empties for the next two days - no one to talk to until Saturday. August can be quite lonely, with everything shutting down.
Thinking of those with mountains to climb. Carpe diem 🦩🦩🦩🦩🌺🌹🌷

Good morning from a grey midlands.
Slept until 4am which is good for me. Going out for a walk soon and try and start the day on a positive note.
Best friend phoning this afternoon and a C2C baby blanket to start.
Have the best day you can during these trying times.

Good morning all it’s quite light out there and it’s going to be a warm day again here on the east coast of Fife. That’s my sister up letting the dog out to do her business. Thankfully she’s feeling much better (the dog). I’m getting my hair cut today, the hairdresser comes to the house. She’s been coming for years, a lovely lady, I got my hall carpets cleaned yesterday what a difference.

Thinking of those less fortunate than me ❤️

Good morning, Michael and all GNs from a grey, cool South Yorkshire. I wore a sweater yesterday evening for the first time in ages. I went to the gym a little later than usual yesterday and got snarled up in the rush hour traffic so it took longer than usual to get there and was busy when I arrived. Unusually I didn't feel better for my workout. In the afternoon, writer’s group was the once a month librarian led session and we had to compete with some kind of very loud singing session that was going on in the children’s section so it was difficult to concentrate but productive. Walking group this morning, then lunch with DD and a haircut this afternoon.
Have the best day you can folks.

Good morning from Malta where we expect a sunny day with a high of 37°C.

I went to the supermarket yesterday so am now stocked up for the foreseeable future.

Had a lovely surprise when my doorbell rang and there was a sweet young girl who I used to babysit regularly. She is now almost 16 and had brought me a lovely gift of a cushion with a photo of Buzz and me on it. So I can cuddle him again🥲

She stayed until early evening and we had a lovely time chatting and catching up. She really is a sweetheart and so thoughtful.

Soon after she had left, the boys arrived with DD3 and proceeded to take over my living room! I don’t mind as they are only playing and it’s all easily put back.

I do love my cuddles with them. Fortunately we had no histrionics about the iPad (which I hid) as, apparently, DGS1 had been given a stern talking-to before they arrived. Poor little chap.😞

Today would have been my lovely Mum’s birthday and DD1 is on her way from the US as we speak. She won’t arrive in Malta until around 6pm our time.

She sent a photo of little dog Bertie on the plane. He doesn’t look too happy but he is actually a real trooper who enjoys his many trips abroad.

Your little dog looks adorable and very happy multicolourswapshop 😍

Congrats to Iris, no wonder you are all proud of her especially when she hasn’t had the easiest of times,

Hoping you all have a good day.☀️

Good morning, it’s a chilly dawn here in south Glos, only 12°. I was quite cold yesterday, despite wearing socks and a jumper.
Tiddler was pronounced A1 at her vet check, quite amazing considering the awful skin conditions she had when we adopted her, she was in a real mess with massively swollen ears as well. Her ears are virtually back to normal now! I’m so happy for her, she’s a delightful little creature.
Today I’m heading for the school after our dog walk to see what I will be doing when I start volunteering in the garden. I’m looking forward to seeing it and meeting the volunteers already there.
Hope today goes well for you 🌹

Ashcombe Thu 21-Aug-25 06:34:36

Good morning from a brightening Torbay.

How frustrating, grandMattie, to wait in for a no show! Similarly, yesterday I tried to make an appointment regarding my tinnitus. Firstly, I rang the audiology department at the hospital where I am already being treated because I have hearing aids but I was told I have to have a referral from my GP. So I went through the palaver of completing the online form and then waited all day for a phone call that didn’t materialise. Grrh! Good news regarding Iris! Well done to her!

Coincidentally, Bellasnana: my mother's birthday would have been today, too! She was born in 1922.

Wishing everyone a good day. 🦩🥰🦩💐🦩

grandMattie Thu 21-Aug-25 06:42:26

I hope you get help for tinnitus, Ash. I’ve had it for very many years but not assistance has ever been offered.
I can’t bear the idea of fighting with the KGB charm school trained receptionists, so put up with it, using what techniques I have developed to cope with it…

Good morning from Shropshire.

I have been in hospital again for a couple of days.Travelling home I received the devastating news that my lovely niece has taken her own life.We are all shocked and devastated.

Thinking of you all and wishing you all a good day.

Good morning Mick and all GN's on a greyish breezy morning in North Yorkshire. Well not a good morning!! A rotten night with very little sleep at all and am getting to the end of my tether at the moment. Woke up about 4am with wretched cramp, couldnt get back to sleep, so now tired crabby and in a lot of pain and just wondering whether it would be worth banging my head on a brick wall in the hopes that it would knock me out for a few hours!! No, not really planning to do that but am really struggling at the moment.

Well at least after all the faffing about, have now got my new mouse and fingers crossed wont be losing posts and getting things in a mess on here. I did also manage to get the rest of the washing dry yesterday so that was something. Today we are having yoga at the womens group, so if I can get myself in the right frame of mind I might be able to relax a bit and perhaps benefit from doing it.Hope so! That means not watching the news this morning as dictator Donald Duck Trump would raise my blood pressure even higher!

I did go to whist last night and it was full and humming. We had nine tables which was very good, especially at this time when many people have to go off on grandparenting duties in the holidays. There are quite a few , I think, who will be ready for a rest when the schools start. Our young farmer Edward, who is always lucky with raffles etc was back with us , looking more relaxed as everyone round here will be , to thankfully have the harvest in and in the next few weeks there will be quite a bit of dashing about as the agricultural shows start. At last chance to catch up with friends and relatives and see what you can enter with your stock. I have always loved these shows, but especially the smaller shows, which are very personal, with cousins and friends enjoying entering all sorts of classes from baking, craft, and fell racing, and quietly pleased to beat your mate with your swaledale sheep!! So I also need to think of what I have in the cupboards, and check my fold up chair and the picnic box to join the gang. The only thing now , have to ring up and try and get a disabled parking place as I really cant manage to walk from the usual parking places. Bit depressing , when you cant pretend any more that you are sometimes ok etc, but at least I can still manage to go to the shows. At least I can get something out of being awake at stupid o clock and get myself off very early and be one of the first on the field. The prices to go to the shows have really gone up this year, so I need to chose which ones I want or can afford to go to. Of course, under sods law there will be 2 on at the same time or a lovely garden in the yellow book and I will have to chose , which will be like a child in a sweety shop only able to chose 1 sweet! Ah well pleasures to look forward to. I always enjoy looking at the bales class to have the chance to see the sweet hay bales that have such a lovely smell and are so precious. There will be no spare bales or crops this year, and it will no doubt add to costs when farmers have to buy in animal food, and as the drought has been all over the country there will not be any spare stuff from other areas. Well we shall just have to see what comes.

Well once I have had breakfast and done some basic bits and pieces, I am giving myself a simple task to do this morning. Well simple but not easy! I need to start going through my books and divide them into 3 basic groups. Rejig my bedroom bookcase with some of the books I have acquired lately from mostly charity shops. I need a selection so that on my rubbish mornings at least I have a choice of something to read to take my mind off things. Then I will have some more that wont fit on the bookcase of books to follow on and lastly I have a bag ready to put books in to give to either the bookcase in Upfront which gives free books to people to enjoy chosing from the shelves. So we have all ages and different people and I like to see the children getting interested, or if they have got too many then they will go to Tesco s bookcase. That is one good scheme, that I really like in Tescos. We have the blue button idea where they have 3 different charities and you are givein these blue tokens as you shop and can put them into which ever one you want to support. So it doesnt cost you money but by donating to these charities, tesco give them things, and I think it is every month they change over and these are usually local charities. Then they too have a bookshelf which different places such as schools or churches might collect books from people and then sell them and have a box to put the money in. So I am happy to add any of mine to swell the coffers. It is good to feel that you can still help a bit, even if you havent a lot of money to give. Good on Tesco to do this, rather like it used to be on Blue Peter when the children sent in all sorts of things like silver paper but were not asked for money so every child could contribute. Ah well this has cheered me up thinking about some good things that are happening, and it is a bit lighter but still grey. So it will be books sorting and then covers off and away on the yellow peril to my yoga.

Glad you are getting back into your old routine Mick, but please take it easy, wont you?grandMattie how pleased you must be for Iris, well done to her, and hope it encourages her to carry on enjoying her riding. How infuriating that the wretched so called management people did not turn up. They obviously do not know how to manage their time !! I think you should send them a bill for wasting your time. These people are so arrogant that they dont think you have things to do and can sit waiting for them to arrive and not even let you know they are not coming!! My response to things like that happening is to go into my garden and do some rather vicious snipping with the secateurs, deadheading my flowers but in my mind doing a bit more deadheading!! Multicolourswapshop, a lovely picture of the dog, she looks ready for off there.

Well hoping the day goes well for everyone and I am more hopeful now that things might improve here too so on that better note I wish you all a good day and will hope that this arrives and doesnt disappear into the ether!

Redcar Thu 21-Aug-25 07:08:56

Good morning everyone from mid Essex, broken cloud this morning, hopefully it will clear this morning. I had a chilly walk yesterday morning, despite wearing a jumper and walking round the recreation ground twice I was still cold when I got home. The sun came out in the afternoon so I did some gardening in the warmth. Also damp dusted the bedrooms and all the window ledges which were dusty due to having windows open.

grandmattie and ashcombe how frustrating to be waiting for visits and phone calls that don’t materialise.

susan sorry you have been in hospital again, and very sorry at the devastating news about your niece. My sympathies to you and all your family.

bellasnana how kind of your young friend to bring you the cushion so you can cuddle Buzz again. Enjoy your DD’s visit.

Have the best day possible everyone.

Ashcombe Thu 21-Aug-25 07:09:22

Oh, Susan56, I am so sorry to read your tragic news besides you being in hospital. Thinking of you and your family. 💐

Morning Mick, Morning All from a cloudy, cool corner of Somerset.

Yesterday was a good one, in a rush this morning as off along the motorways to take our not so Littlest out for the day. A rare treat for us.

I’m so sorry susan. What sad news.

With thoughts to all with personal mountains to climb. Have the best day you can everyone.

Jaxjacky Thu 21-Aug-25 07:13:16

Morning from a cool dry S Hants, Susan56 I'm sorry to hear you’ve been back in, to have that devastating news too, my condolences are not enough 🥀.
MrJ took his jumper off yesterday, so I think at last he’s improving!
My friend in hospital has had sepsis, she may be home tomorrow, but back in on Monday for investigations.
Nothing planned today, lots I could do, we’ll see.

Good morning all from Polmont where it's currently 11° and cloudy. Yesterday was chilly and didn't clean until late afternoon. I've been awake since five but my phone has to charge. Last night I slept in dgs1's bed as my room is covered in dust sheets.
Susan I'm sorry you have been back in hospital but even sorrier to hear about your niece. What a tragedy. GrandMattie it is beyond annoying that your management visit didn't happen.
Yesterday the painter pushed on and has only the bathroom to paint today and to finish the glass. I'll be glad to get my house back, although he's a lovely chap. I did an hour of Spanish in the morning and ordered new lamps and a new lampshade for the bedroom. They'll arrive on Saturday. In the afternoon, I worked with two primary seven classes in the school library who were generally well behaved.
Today, I'm hoping my pin number arrives. I was glad to hear your banking issue was resolved Kalu. I have no plans to go anywhere, so I will attempt to change all the bills I pay to the new card details. I'll also do a Tesco order. I have to wait in on Saturday for the new lamps, so I might as well make use of my time. I'll do some Spanish too.
The next job is to organise for the leylandii which runs along my drive to be removed and replaced by a fence. It has taken over quite a bit of the width of the drive and is a nuisance. Tonight's dinner might be the beef olives I couldn't have last night because the painter was still working in my kitchen. Have a good day all.

Good morning from a grey W Kent. This morning I have a friend coming round for coffee and a catch up we usually meet weekly but family matters have stopped us during August. As you say gM it can be a long month. Glad Iris did so well.
I had a FaceTime with DGS4 he was very happy to be home and filled me in on life on the ward.
Susan I am sorry you have been in hospital again and also received such very sad news
Take care of yourselves

GrannyGravy13 Thu 21-Aug-25 07:24:30

Good morning from a brightening S E Essex.

Susan56 so sad when a young person takes their life, the ripples of grief spread so far, please accept my condolences. I hope you are on the mend after another stay in hospital.

We have finally got a date for the builders to start - yippee - ext Tuesday. I am now in a complete tizz, and going over all of my paint choices along with checking if my wallpaper choices are still available.

Enjoy your day, thinking of my dear penpal and all those with ills or troubles 🙋‍♀️

Kalu Thu 21-Aug-25 07:32:10

Good morning from an overcast start to the day in Glasgow.

Well done Iris. For horse lovers, being around them is so good for the soul. Does Iris have a regular pony to bond with at the stables GM?
Sorry to hear you have been hospitalised again Susan, hoping you are on the mend and deepest condolences for such a heartbreaking event in your family. 💐

A quieter day ahead, nothing pressing to attend to, out later for my weekly hairdressing appointment. I received a fresh supply of cinnamon biscuits yesterday from GD2 who makes these for me to have with my morning coffee. Simple things made with love which mean a lot.

Best wishes to all for a pleasant day.

baubles Thu 21-Aug-25 07:34:33

Susan my heartfelt sympathy to you and your family. thanks

brook2704 Thu 21-Aug-25 07:35:40

Good morning everyone from Inverness where it’s a cloudy start again with sunshine forecast later
So sad to read such sad news Susan also that youve been back into hospital
After a busy few days out and about I’m hoping for a quieter day today and getting outside in the garden. The schools are back, DD2 is working so I should be safe from distractions
Safe journey to your DD1 and little dog Bellas, how lovely that she can bring him along too, enjoy your time together
Thinking of everyone with worries and struggles, hope today is gentle and take care all whatever the day brings 💐

Gingster Thu 21-Aug-25 07:46:24

Good morning all.

Susan - no words 🥀. 🙏.

Today I must do some housework. What with cataract op preventing me to do much and also being out with friends, the house is looking neglected.

Yesterdays doctors appointment for Dh was a waste of time. We have to book another blood test and also a gp appointment.
We will be away next week so trying to find a day that fitted in was tricky. 😤.

Take the day as it comes , keep calm and carry on. 😬

EkwaNimitee Thu 21-Aug-25 07:47:35

Good morning Mick and everyone from grey Carlisle.

I have been away on holiday in stunningly beautiful east Greenland, cruising down fjords full of hundreds and hundreds of enormous icdbergs, going ashore and finding lovely little flowers. The weather was largely wonderful, some went swimming! We visited one little isolated community--Ittoqqortoormiit, try pronouncing that....
The only downside was Reykjavik airport yesterday where I thought an early flight meant it would be relatively quiet, no such luck, half the world seemed be in transit. There were long, long queues for everything and I barely caught my plane but all my fellow passengers were equally affected and we were late taking off.
I am feeling utter rubbish this morning with a head cold and barely 3 hours sleep, meaning my typing has gone to pot and the air is blue! So I'm off....

I just want to send my condolences to you Susan, on your family's tragic loss.

grandMattie Thu 21-Aug-25 07:48:30

Susan, hugs 🤗 and 🌺💐🌷🌹

kittylester Thu 21-Aug-25 07:49:39

Good morning all from a cloudy and breezy North Leicestershire.

We still have 3 dgc staying. If they don't go home soon we will have no food left at all. I made mountains of egg fried rice and gallons of teriyaki chicken last night and every scrap went. And they are all lovely and slim.

Photo is Wolfie!

DGD1 gets her GCSE results today sure she will do brilliantly.

Condolences to Susan. So sad.

Have the best day possible everyone
