A September Challenge

In the back to school spirit, are you planning a new September challenge?

I’ve set myself two, one is to study Art Deco design, particularly jewellery design, I’m looking to sign up to online courses, as I can’t find any taught ones, and I’ve put some book requests in at the library. .

The other is to start wearing all my earrings, a different pair every day - and get rid of the ones I don’t like now. I must have over 50 pairs as I don’t think I’ve ever got rid of any since I had my ears pierced when I was 18.

Are you planning anything, or is it just me who still gets that new term, must do something different feeling, 50 years after leaving school?

To get out of my cosy sofa and off this iPad

I shall probably set myself the same Autumn challenge as last year - go through every drawer and cupboard in the house and sort/chuck out most of it.
(I did about two.)

To stop spending every morning on the iPad! I would get so much more done. Once I have been on here while having breakfast, I should get off it and get on with my day. I don’t, though, and normally browse until lunchtime. Gulp! Then I feel guilty all day because I am wasting my life!
Great though it may be, I sometimes wish the internet would just go away! But then, I know I’d be sorry.
Anyone know where I can get done willpower??

Some willpower!

What a great challenge! A bit like New Year’s resolutions and after a lifetime in education tbh September feels much more like NewYear than Jan 1.
My challenge is to delve into my wardrobe every day to wear something I haven’t worn for a while -and in “delving”, to find one item for the charity bag every day too.

I always get that new term feeling as well but without the last minute panic! 😂
I have already set myself a challenge to clear out my kitchen cupboards and sideboard in the sitting room because a friend is having a table top sale at the end of the month for charity so I’ll probably have plenty to donate.
Great idea about delving into the wardrobe. I’m guilty of forgetting tops that should be worn more frequently. I’ll definitely give that a go.
I should also spend more time in my study, AKA the spare room, when I’m using my laptop rather than lazily perching it on my knees so that I can watch some rubbish telly at the same time.
That’ll do for starters. I wouldn’t want to overstretch myself. 😂

I like the wearing something I haven’t worn for ages idea, along with changing my jewellery more often - I’ve a lot.
On a practical note - definitely a daily walk, which isn’t a problem if I have DD2’s Little Dog here. On days I don’t, I must get on with the loft clearance, while I’m still able to get up the Slingsby ladder!

JamesandJon33 Sun 31-Aug-25 13:43:39

What an excellent idea. Like some others, having been in teaching September has always been the start of the year. Although September, and back to school was always when I had a yearly cold.
I too shall start wearing all my clothes, not just the favoured few, although I have none to donate at the moment. I am on a quest for Toast clothes, and you don’t throw those away.
Also I have a book to finish, which will probably keep me busy for a few months yet.
I like the idea of the earrings. Will give that a go. Thanks for the great ideas ladies…. Oh! And the daily walk. Diolch

My September challenge is to smile and get on with life whilst the builders are swarming through my home inside and out.

They have been asked nicely (given the Paddington hard stare) that they must be finished before Christmas…

If DH are still happily married at the end of all this it will be a flaming miracle 🙏🏻🪽

Nope no challenges for me, the house doesn’t need any clearing or my personal possessions.I have a job, a close family and young GC and friends. The only thing I would like is for time to stretch out more. It’s a small house, no real garden to do just a yard in back and a few feet at front.I have more than 50 pairs earrings but keep them all sorted into boxes and won’t part with any.😄

woodenspoon Sun 31-Aug-25 14:02:44

I’m going to a new stretch class in an attempt to tone up and lose some weight around the middle. I’m not overly heavy but I’d feel happier if I could lose a bit.

Lizzies Sun 31-Aug-25 14:03:26

I have signed up for a taster session for a community choir. I’m bricking it because I’m so introverted, but I’m going to give it a go.

My September challenge will be to continue to prepare for moving house. I'm making good progress so far. Lots of improvement family things have been re-homed to the appropriate family members. Much has been donated to the charity
shops. A neighbour is having some items of furniture which won't fit the layout of my next home.
The recycling and rubbish bins have been well fed.
I think this coming week's challenge will be the wardrobes.

Aldom Sun 31-Aug-25 14:06:41

Grr, 😡 predictive text!!
Important not improvement!

Mel1967 Sun 31-Aug-25 16:30:44

My September challenge is:

To enjoy my new part time hours, 37.5 down to 30 hours, having a Monday off.

Going to a daytime yoga class for the first time ever tomorrow 🧘‍♀️

AGAA4 Sun 31-Aug-25 16:41:06

My challenge is to book those little breaks away that I've been thinking about and not putting it off till another day.

Cabbie21 Sun 31-Aug-25 17:19:35

To spend less time on my ipad.
To get ready for the decorator at the end of September.
To organise carpet, bed etc for newly decorated spare bedroom.
That’s enough to be going on with. Plenty more sorting after that.

peli Sun 31-Aug-25 20:14:28

What an interesting idea! I already rotate thru my many earrings, so my Sept. plan is to pretend it's a "gap" month & fill it w/ new experiences. (tho not quite the same kind I'd do at 18, lol)

We had builders in from june till halfway through august. I haven't got to the "it was worth all the hassle" stage yet as I (foolishly) said I'd do the decorating & as 5 biggish rooms and 2 cubby holes have been replastered, there is a lot!
Carpets in the 2 remaining rooms requiring floors tomorrow, & that's a big milestone as I can start putting furniture back and having a proper hunt for about 10 items I've mislaid & doing some sewing too (the one bit of decorating that I enjoy).
I hope your swarm of builders get the job done with a minimum of hassle.
My DH is still working, so while it was a building site I didn't see a lot of him.Hence we're still married....

Going through stuff yesterday I see I have 7 watches. I like them all but usually only wear 2 of them regularly.

So … Starting tomorrow I plan a different watch each day.
