Hello Kitcheners- hope you don't mind and apologies if a new kitchen has already been opened elsewhere but I couldn't find it if there has... I've done my best but it still needs a few throws and cushions to make it more homely, ready for the nights drawing in and chillier evenings. Some freshly baked scones, jam and cream on the side if you fancy a treat.
I hope you dont think it presumptious of me to start this kitchen as I don't post as regularly as some of you but do find Soops Kitchen a lovely place to drop into even if I've nothing to say.

Utbb,💐. We’re very fortunate, our local pub/restaurant does small portions which are just the right amount, and priced accordingly.
Thinking of all facing challenges either with themselves or family. Hope things improve.

I hope the operation goes well on your little GS’s elbow Grandmabatty
Please take care of your own foot while looking after the other wee man today.

Grandmabatty Sun 02-Nov-25 09:43:09

Thank you ladies. Dgs2 is now under the anaesthetic. Dgs1 wants to go to the toy shop and buy him a gift so we will do that after a trip to Hobbycraft for paper and a mooch. His kind gesture also means that grandma will buy him a toy too!

Sending good wishes to GB’s little GS.
My GD had many operations for her cleft lip and palate from aged 12 weeks to late teens so I know just how you are all feeling.
I have almost decided that after a few Christmas meals already organised and booked my going out in the evening will be curtailed from now onwards.
I felt so shattered when I got home last night and my digestive system isn’t coping with a full meal at that time.
All things come to an end and change as we age and I don’t think I am going to be sad about it, just sensible.
I am lucky to have been able to carry on for the time I have, it is much to be grateful for.

Nannytopsy Sun 02-Nov-25 17:12:27

GrandmaBatty I hope your little fellow is on the mend now. Xx

Naughtyneine Sun 02-Nov-25 17:13:42

Thank you for all your lovely support and good wishes during my wobble it meant a lot to me.
I hope your little Grandson is now on the other side of the op and all is well with you all Grandmabatty. What a kind little lad his brother is too.
Yia....welcome to Spiros... He looks very week settled already...prayers said today at Mass that all will good on Tuesday for your DH.
FGT and Sue D..same as always for you two and your DH's.
UTBB...A sensible decision re eating out. I know my limitations and now I'll ask for a container to take home what I can't eat....'the 4 legged children have now sussed this and paw at my bag as soon as I get through the door.

Corner...I think I have a good idea of whereabouts you are talking about...M5? we dread going to Costco because that stretch of motorway seems to always have a problem but it's the closest one to us and the only one on the South West....I keep meaning to write and ask if there could be one in Exeter.

I picked up my prescription on Friday only to find that they had given me the wrong dose and only enough to last a day and a half. In fairness when I contacted them they corrected the mistake in 10 minutes. A GP is phoning me sometime tomorrow morning, I'm going to see if he can find out where the scan might be done and what alternatives might be available to the Codeine based ones that inevitably have had their usual side effects..
Probably because it's been the weekend and DH is at home I've coped better with the pain. Daft isn't it, my ex wasn't the supportive type with things medical and I got used to not relying on anyone but myself to get through so having someone caring is just amazing.

GrannySomerset Sun 02-Nov-25 18:05:28

I sympathise, Utbb, have had exactly the same experience today and I had really looked forward to going out for lunch, too. The great mystery is why my diminished appetite hasn’t led to weight loss. The universe is not on my side at present.

Grandmabatty Sun 02-Nov-25 18:11:25

Good evening Kitcheners. Dgs2 is home with a massive cast(stookie) on. He's had a MacDonald meal for dinner and is happily playing with his new toys. He's been so brave. Dgs1 was fabulous today. Such a good boy. Mum and dad are absolutely shattered and will sleep tonight, I'm sure. I'm about to have beef olives in onion gravy with mash and a glass of wine. I'm rather tired too ! Neine I try to steer clear of cocodamol for that very reason. I hope you get some other painkillers. Nannytopsy and Utbb thank you for your kindness. Enjoy your evening Kitcheners.

Jaxjacky Sun 02-Nov-25 18:24:49

Good news Grandmabatty I’m pleased all is well and not surprised about the tiredness, worry is exhausting.
I’m fingers crossed neine for a helpful GP.
It’s been a bright day with the odd shower, chilly though, my Raynauds precludes too much outside work, even peeling cold veg means white fingers, a minor, but irritating occurrence.
We won a lovely nearly 2k chicken in the meat draw, they’re grown locally, free range.
We can eat a main course utbb but days of 3 courses are long gone and as I age I think if you’re not enjoying something, then it’s a no thanks.

Susan56 Sun 02-Nov-25 18:57:36

So glad to hear your grandson is home Grandmabatty.I’m so pleased it has all gone well and hope dgs1 is feeling happier now.
You will all sleep tonight.

Blossoming Sun 02-Nov-25 19:02:47

Good evening everyone. Good news about DGS2 Grandmabatty. I’m so behind with everyone’s news, I’m seeing the phlebotomist tomorrow to get my levels checked. First time since leaving hospital and I can’t seem to think about anything else! I won’t get the results straight away, so if nobody minds I’ll just crawl into the quiet corner and hide under a blanket.

Redcar Sun 02-Nov-25 19:44:16

I hope your blood levels are all good blossoming, look forward to seeing you back in the kitchen soon.

utbb & jaxjacky i can’t manage more than one course either these days. Sometimes I’ll have a starter and a dessert but some restaurants don’t like you doing that!

neine I hope your doctor can find you a better painkiller. I can’t/won’t take cocodamol because of the side effects and most of the opiates make me hallucinate so I’m stuck with paracetamol.

grandmabatty so pleased that your dgs2 is home again and hope the whole family will have a good night’s sleep tonight!
I started to prune one of the roses this afternoon, I only managed 15 minutes, but it’s a start and I’ll do some more tomorrow if it’s dry.
Have a peaceful evening everyone. Night night.

Scapa1 Sun 02-Nov-25 21:15:21

Grandmabatty good to hear that your grandson is home and eating. I can hear the huge sigh of relief.

Just catching up on the kitchen news now after a busy day. An enjoyable afternoon at a line dancing social event with a group of very friendly people. There was live music, lots of dancing, drinks and just a few nibbles which suited me fine. When I first started doing the line dancing about 6 months ago I didn’t realise how difficult it is, I’m still very much a beginner compared to a lot of the ladies who have years of experience but they’re very kind and helpful when I go wrong 🤭
Fingers crossed for a successful outcome after your GP appt tomorrow neine
Sensible decision Uttb, just do what you enjoy these days
Blossoming hoping all is ok with the bloods
Good news from grandmabatty about DGS, hoping everyone sleeps well tonight and take care all x

cornergran Sun 02-Nov-25 22:48:20

Pleased to report a much better day in cornerland. An excellent visit from our friend, food more or less went to plan, most importantly she arrived home safely this evening, it’s a two and a half hour drive.

Sleep well everyone.

That’s good news grandmab, you will all sleep well tonight.

Another here adversely affected by codeine, won’t take it now. Hope your doctor can offer an alternative neine.

Goodnight everyone. . Sleep well.

Naughtyneine Mon 03-Nov-25 09:05:11

Happy Wedding Anniversary Jax. 🥂

Jaxjacky Mon 03-Nov-25 12:36:03

Thank you neine I hope you’ve had positive news from your phone call this morning.

Yiayia4 Mon 03-Nov-25 13:44:30

Happy Anniversary Jax and Mr Jax have a nice day and enjoy your meal tomorrow.💐🥂Its ours on Thursday, 54years.It all comes at once at the beginning of November.

Charleygirl5 Mon 03-Nov-25 14:21:18

Spiro looks well settled. There hasn't been a cat in this house for over three years, and as I love the look of all of them, I may scoop them all up. TillyTrotter that cat looks very long and also settled. They, I am sure, would get along fine in no time and enjoy the cuddles from me. I will shield each from the nasty fireworks.

Each can enjoy their own space with almost a room each. You know they will be well cared for.

Nannytopsy Mon 03-Nov-25 17:52:26

It’s about 4 years since we lost our last puss. I have a wish for another but DH says no. I know it’s sensible when we have a lurcher to stay regularly but still …

brook2704 Mon 03-Nov-25 20:13:07

Hi kitchen pals, it’s been quite mild today with sunshine and showers
A volunteering session this morning and then I enjoyed a couple of hours outside in the garden this afternoon. There’s lots of leaves to pick up and plants to cut back - there’s always lots to do, it’s an ongoing task
neine hope you had news from the GP call this morning
Hoping you and your DH have enjoyed your anniversary today Jax and looking forward to going out tomorrow
Thinking of everyone in the quiet corner, take care all

Redcar Mon 03-Nov-25 20:56:54

Hello kitcheners, very windy here today which made it feel cool. I didn’t continue with pruning the roses today, I had to spend a lot of time sorting paperwork to send to the solicitor dealing with my godmother’s estate. Then had another walk to the post office to send it all off to her. There was too much to email!
neine I hope you had an encouraging phone call from your doctor today,
grandmabatty I hope your little grandson isn’t in too much pain today.
A late Happy Anniversary to you and your DH * jaxjacky*.
Thinking of those in the quiet room and hoping that soop and her DH are warm and comfortable at home together.
Night night all.
.

Good evening everyone. 🥰
I'm catching up with all your news, so glad to hear that Grandmabatty's wee DGS2 is through his operation and back home with his family, everyone can breathe a big sigh of relief. What a stressful time GB, look after yourself as well as your family.

Happy anniversary to Jaxjacky and MrJ, 🥂 , good luck in your quiz tonight, also many congratulations to YiaYia and MrY. 🥂 and thanks for the photo of Milo, beautiful boy, so lucky to be joining your family! Lots of gorgeous cat photos,🐈‍⬛, thank you all.

Hope Neine had a helpful telephone consultation today, It's awful having to live with pain. 🙏

Your line dancing class sounds like good fun, brook, it's nice that they hold social events too. I'm not back at my classes yet, not enough energy...

I enjoyed Halloween with the Wee Boy. He was Rottenaldo, zombie version on Ronaldo, there's a special football strip for him! My first visit to family since Covid.

I've been left with a hacking cough post covid, most unpleasant especially when it disturbs my sleep! 😴 I'm trying to pick up some of my usual routine, hoping to be able to visit my dear friend soon, can't go near her with this awful cough.

Nothing compared to what many of you are going through. I'm thinking of our Soops, FGTs, and all with illness, worries or sorrow.

Wishing everyone a peaceful Monday evening and a good night's sleep. TOYA, NNGB.

GrannyGravy13 Mon 03-Nov-25 21:26:20

Behind with all the kitchen news as always 🤷‍♀️

The imp is asleep, the floors downstairs (apart from sitting room and dining room) have been latex screeded so hopefully flooring should be finished before the weekend.

Hope your GS is pain free Grandmabatty

Naughtneine hope you get some answers soon

Thinking of our dear soop 😘

Jaxjacky Mon 03-Nov-25 22:24:36
