Hello Kitcheners- hope you don't mind and apologies if a new kitchen has already been opened elsewhere but I couldn't find it if there has... I've done my best but it still needs a few throws and cushions to make it more homely, ready for the nights drawing in and chillier evenings. Some freshly baked scones, jam and cream on the side if you fancy a treat.
I hope you dont think it presumptious of me to start this kitchen as I don't post as regularly as some of you but do find Soops Kitchen a lovely place to drop into even if I've nothing to say.

Hi kitchen pals, hope everyone is doing ok
Same weather here today Jax very still, damp and grey. I did get outside in the garden for an hour or so and felt better for it. I started putting a few things in a suitcase as we’re off to Vienna for a few days soon, we’re looking forward to exploring somewhere new, we’ve not been there before.
Sounds like you’ve a very busy week ahead grandmabatty, hope all goes well. Presume dgs2 is back to nursery tomorrow so hope he manages ok
Thinking of everyone in the quiet corner take care all x

Good evening all. As we are doing so much walking now and the weather is turning cold and wet I decided yesterday I need some winter walking trousers. I ordered a pair of fleece .lined water resistant trousers from Mountain Warehouse and they were delivered today! That’s very quick service and they arrived in time for me to try them out on our afternoon walk. They are great, do everything promised and I am very pleased with them. I’m now fully kitted out for whatever the weather sends our way. Have a wonderful time in Vienna Brook, it’s highly unlikely I’ll be able to travel anywhere so I love hearing about everyone else’s adventures.

Wishing you all a peaceful night, TOYA ♥️

Scapa1 Sun 09-Nov-25 21:02:17

* Brook* have a lovely time in Vienna. I always wanted to go there and then went three times in five years!! I really like it.

brook2704 Sun 09-Nov-25 22:06:00

Thank you both Blossoming and Scalpa1 😀

Grannmarie Sun 09-Nov-25 22:17:51

Good evening, everyone.
I'm all behind with kitchen news, just catching up. Lots of great photos, thanks, beautiful location Neine.
Rosie and Merv are gorgeous girls.
Glad to hear YiaYia's DH does not have cancer, fingers crossed for his ongoing treatment.
Blossoming, two walks daily, that is excellent!
Thanks, Grandmabatty, hope your wee grandson is feeling a bit brighter, and that you are well rested before your busy week ahead.
Vienna sounds fantastic, brook, hope you and DH have a wonderful time.
Thinking of our Soops, FGTS and all with illness, worries or sorrow.

I'm still spending my days sleeping and coughing. I've finished antibiotics, now on a codeine cough linctus...more sleeping!😴 GP said lots of people are experiencing this post Covid, can last for weeks...

My brother and sister in law have lost their beautiful labradoodle, so sad, he's their world. I was looking after him just recently when they were away to a wedding, glad I had that time with him. 🐕 Good boy.💙

My sisters popped round yesterday with home cooked meals for the fridge and freezer, so kind. DS3 and lovely girlfriend brought shopping and my prescription on Friday. Family and friends are keeping in touch with texts and calls. I am very thankful that I am well supported, just impatient to regain some energy and pick up my old routine. It's nothing compared to what many of our dear friends are dealing with.

Wishing everyone a peaceful Sunday evening and a good night's sleep. TOYA, NNGB.

It’s very quiet in the kitchen today, not surprising really, it’s been a horrible day here in Essex, drizzly and a cold wind this morning, then torrential rain this afternoon!
I did plant up my three amaryllis bulbs this morning after a wet walk. I just pottered about for the rest of the day, I emptied a few boxes and put the contents away, so the dining room is slightly tidier. I spent a while trying to sort out minor issues regarding my godmother’s probate, but am now slobbing in front of the tv with a hot pad at my back.
I hope you’ve all had a good day despite the weather, have a pleasant evening all!

Jaxjacky Mon 10-Nov-25 20:28:10

Hi all, indeed Redcar very quiet, hefty showers here too. Voluntary phone was steady, but late afternoon we had power cuts, another one between 6 and 8, hit the pub too, so no quiz.
Well, I really hope you recover earlier than ‘weeks’ Grannmarie it must be so wearing, no wonder you’re napping.
Not been to Vienna brook, have a wonderful time.
No quiz = final episode of Trigger point, a plus.

Blossoming Mon 10-Nov-25 20:37:16

Good evening all. We’ve actually had some dry spells here so MrB and I went to Lytham for our morning walk. We managed another walk nearer home after lunch, just before the heavens opened.
Tomorrow my doctor is supposed to be ringing me at 8am to discuss my recent test results. Have a peaceful night all, TOYA ♥️

GrannyGravy13 Mon 10-Nov-25 20:38:24

I have survived a day of Christmas shopping at Bluewater, with DS4 and his adorable wife. We went our own way this morning, met up for lunch in Cote, then shopped together.

DH had the house to himself, and has now gone out to dinner with his pals, I am collapsed on the sofa.

The Imp has finally gone off to sleep, he wasn’t impressed that his grandpa was out.

Nighty night folks 🙋‍♀️

cornergran Mon 10-Nov-25 21:03:20

That was brave grannyg. A sofa collapse is well deserved.

I’m sorry you’re still so poorly. granmarie. Wretched bugs.

Hope there is good news from the doctor tomorrow blossoming. Everything will be crossed here.

A day of heavy showers here, mostly while we were out this morning! I managed to plant some primroses in a bright spell when we came back, Mr C went to put the recycling out for collection as I came in and was soaked. Oops.

I’m trying to get past a very difficult interaction with our goddaughter yesterday. She’s in a very anxious, strung out place and it seems whatever I said and asked was wrong and made her stress more. I’m stepping back, the best thing if interaction isn’t helping.

We’re meeting good friends tomorrow, our annual November jaunt to a museum with an excellent cafe. We’ll meet for coffee have a wander, return to the cafe for lunch then wander again. We’ll also exchange Christmas gifts. Yes I know it’s early but it’s what we do grin. They’re good company and will take my mind off ongoing family and other worries

Vienna sounds great brook. Enjoy every minute.

Rest well everyone. Hope it’s a peaceful night.

Nannytopsy Mon 10-Nov-25 21:29:52

Good evening everyone. It is a quiet kitchen.
We had a busy weekend with overnight DGC and the rest of them for lunch on Sunday. Today has been very showery but tomorrow should be grey, dry and windy. I have done lots of washing, ready to peg out tomorrow. I cleared last week’s ironing, ready to start again! I often think of soop and her ironing to pay for trips and treats, when mine builds up.
My cleaner came this afternoon and now everywhere is clean and tidy. Smug! But the garden …
Sleep well everyone

Susan56 Mon 10-Nov-25 22:09:04

Nannytopsy I was thinking of soop and her ironing when we visited mum at the care home today.

TOYA

brook2704 Mon 10-Nov-25 22:27:13

Hi kitchen pals, it’s been very wet here this morning but dried up this afternoon, I did a bit of shopping in town - sadly it’s nowhere near as big or interesting as Bluewater GG but I got what I needed - I do miss having a big shopping centre nearby 😕
Shame about the quiz Jax hope the power is ok from now on
Hoping tomorrows call goes well Blossoming
Enjoy your meet up tomorrow corner and hoping the family worries ease a bit soon
Hoping our dearest Soop is doing ok, take care all 💐

Ladyleftfieldlover Mon 10-Nov-25 23:11:48

Hello kitchen people.

A Curate’s egg sort of day. The cleaner came and cleaned beautifully, I did a Sainsbury’s shop and got two legs of Lamb for half price with my Nectar card. Craft group at my friend over the road was fun. But… it appears I must have a third colonoscopy! A telephone consultation next week when I assume they will set a date. At least I know how it all works. The worst bit is probably the very strong laxativessad

The Soops and FGT2s 🪻🪻🪻

Grandmabatty Tue 11-Nov-25 05:35:57

Ladyleftfieldlover that's rotten for you 💐

Yiayia4 Tue 11-Nov-25 14:15:41

Hope your DGS2 has had a better day Grandmabatty

That’s not nice LLFL hope you get it done soon.

Get well soon Grannmarie.🌻

I had an eye test this morning. It seems my cataracts are much worse and deteriorated very quickly. The optician said it’s because I take steroids. The bad news is I can’t drive until done!Luckily DH still enjoys driving but I hope I don’t have a long wait.I must admit it will be nice to have clear vision again.

Love to the Soops and FGT❤️

Grandmabatty Tue 11-Nov-25 15:51:29

Yiayia how annoying for you. My cataracts speeded up because I'm diabetic. The disease which keeps on giving!
Dgs2 had a good day today. No problem going in. Both boys have had hot chocolate and a mini cupcake courtesy of grandma. The weather here has been dreadful today. Very soggy and torrential rain at times. Boys go home in half an hour.

cornergran Tue 11-Nov-25 16:45:17

Hopefully not long to wait yia. A nuisance just now but as you say wonderful to see clearly again.

My eye issue isn’t cataract related although I do have baby cataracts I’m told they aren’t the problem. I’m hoping the experimental eye injections will do the trick. Experimental because the condition still doesn’t have a name and everyone is very interested in the outcome. Hmm, I’d also love to see clearly again, long sight isn’t the problem it’s reading. I may ignore the might of the consultants and ask the optician for glasses that suit now. They don’t have to be expensive, the cheapest frames will do. It will be 18 weeks before the next lot of injections are done. Too long to struggle to read. Im told driving is well within limits so one positive.

That sounds a better day grandmab. Pleased for you and the little lad.

You’re right ladylfl the preparation is the worst. Must be disappointing to hear another is needed, hope for a reassuring result for you.

Ironing waiting for me too nannyt. No chance today as we’ve been out meeting friends. A thoroughly enjoyable day with an excellent and very reasonable lunch. No cooking this evening. Hooray.

Wishing you all well.

Blossoming Tue 11-Nov-25 17:23:56

Good evening dear Kitcheners. The doc rang at 5 past 8, luckily I was awake and ready! My kidney function has deteriorated but it may be a blip. In September I was advised by the hospital to restrict my fluids in order to increase my sodium. This may have affected my kidneys, so I’m now increasing my fluids and the test will be repeated in 2 weeks. It seems I now have 2 conditions that have opposing needs! Hyponatremia responds to a high protein diet and restricted fluids. CKD needs low protein and high fluids. I have to try and balance the 2. I feel rather ‘adrift’.

MrB and I have had 2 long walks around the Dock today, despite the awful weather.

Wishing you all a restful evening, TOYA♥️

Redcar Tue 11-Nov-25 17:48:09

llfl that’s not good news for you, not sure if it’s better to know what the procedure involves or to be in complete ignorance!

blossoming how frustrating for you. Do the doctors have any advice as to how to balance the opposing needs of your two conditions? Well done for your two walks again today.

I had a message from Patients know best this morning, telling me that the report on my Xray would be available on December 4th! About 2 hours later one of the doctors at my surgery rang to tell me she had the results! Unfortunately I have two more fractures in my spine and will be referred to rheumatology to see if I need stronger meds. As I’ve been taking Alendronic acid for nearly 4 years, I probably need something more effective!
I’m waiting for the delivery of a game for Dgd4’s birthday , it was supposed to arrive before 12.30, and I was in until 2.30, but still no sign of it. So frustrating, I’ll have to chase it!

grandmabatty good that your dgs2 went into nursery without any melt downs this morning.

yiayia I hope you can get your cataracts done soon.

Have a pleasant evening everyone.

Blossoming Tue 11-Nov-25 18:52:54

Thank you Redcar, getting medical advice is proving very difficult! Not nearly as frustrating as your situation though, glad you got your results but sorry they weren’t better news.

Jaxjacky Tue 11-Nov-25 18:53:02

Oh dear, poorly Kitcheners, a dilemma Blossoming hopefully you can get advice and then two of you with eye issues. How frustrating corner I’d be tempted too, do you know of any consequences? Yia another buggeration not driving, I hope it’s done quickly, they seem to be in my area. No wonder your back is sore Redcar 🌻.
No more power cuts today, I was out and about with a friend this morning, it’s been a windy day, this afternoon reading and scrolling, I also ordered a battery lamp, in case.

GrannyGravy13 Tue 11-Nov-25 19:13:15

Sorry to read more health troubles in the kitchen.

Finally had the men here to template kitchen walls for glass splash backs.

Thinking of our dear soop and FGT2

Wishing you a peaceful evening 🙋‍♀️

Yiayia4 Tue 11-Nov-25 21:40:42

CornergranMy optician has changed the lenses in my glasses for now.Not legal for driving but hopefully more comfortable.
Definitely worth a try good luck.

brook2704 Tue 11-Nov-25 21:45:28

Oh Yia here’s hoping you can get your cataracts sorted very soon so you can get driving again
So sorry to read of so many kitchen pals with health worries just now, sending everyone a gentle group hug
It’s been another busy day here, a visit to DD2s to tidy up first thing, then the gym and then this afternoon coffee with pals at the garden centre. I was out at just gone 9 and not home till 5 😕 I’ve just finished packing for Vienna, as usual I couldn’t decide what to take but eventually made my mind up and have gone for casual comfort and warmth over style 🤣 We’re travelling down to Edinburgh tomorrow - it’s an early 7am flight on Thursday so living up here we always need to go the night before.
Hoping grannmarie is feeling a bit better and take care all x
