Hello Kitcheners- hope you don't mind and apologies if a new kitchen has already been opened elsewhere but I couldn't find it if there has... I've done my best but it still needs a few throws and cushions to make it more homely, ready for the nights drawing in and chillier evenings. Some freshly baked scones, jam and cream on the side if you fancy a treat.
I hope you dont think it presumptious of me to start this kitchen as I don't post as regularly as some of you but do find Soops Kitchen a lovely place to drop into even if I've nothing to say.

TillyTrotter Mon 17-Nov-25 06:58:02

Lovely to hear news of soop she will be cheery knowing her son is to visit. It will lift her.
Thank you baggs .
Charleygirl do make an urgent call to a Heating Engineer as this week is going to be cold. You will be a priority if you give away your age.
Spiros would keep you warm if he could lie on your lap. Isn’t he a gorgeous boy?
Thinking of all dealing with health worries. 🌷

Charleygirl5 Mon 17-Nov-25 09:11:53

I managed to get in touch with the fellow who fitted it and he is coming sometime today. He thinks it is a simple job. With luck it will be warm again in this house this evening.

Charleygirl5 Mon 17-Nov-25 14:03:52

I now have heating and hot water. I was more bothered about the house and pipes than about myself, because I could keep warm.

I managed to contact the fellow who fitted the combi boiler 18 months ago, so he fixed the problem in a jiffy.

TillyTrotter Mon 17-Nov-25 18:39:21

That is good news Charleygirl as the UK is facing a cold snap. I like to think you will be warm and have hot water again.

GrannyGravy13 Mon 17-Nov-25 18:53:07

Good evening, it’s definitely chillier here in S E Essex.
We have The Imp here for a sleepover, he has to be at school by 8am tomorrow as we are right by the school it’s easier for DD for him to stay.

He brought home the class teddy, he has to photograph their adventures during this week, high levels of stress after reading teddy’s book and what other classmates have done with him 🤯

Jaxjacky Mon 17-Nov-25 19:34:35

Hi all, a quiet day on the voluntary phone, it was cold as I picked my son up and dropped him to collect his serviced car, off to quiz next.
I’d get teddy to lend a hand with your house renovations GG13 make himself useful.
Thank goodness Charleygirl very efficient.
I hope himself and FGT had a successful appointment today.
Pop back later 👋👋

brook2704 Mon 17-Nov-25 19:35:04

Hi kitchen pals, we’re home safely from Vienna, we’ve had such a lovely time and we could have stayed much longer. It’s been a very cold day here with snow flurries, I’ve stayed in and kept warm and cosy all day catching up with jobs
I remember the class Teddy well GG - quite competitive with lots of adventures and photos 🤣
Sorry to here you’re having an upsetting time uttb sending 💐
Good you’ve now got your heating and hot water charlrygirl too cold to be without
Hoping that the fgts have had positive news today

kittylester Mon 17-Nov-25 20:49:20

DGD1 took the class teddy to the museum and left him there (DH was in charge!) No-one had trouble competing with his experience that weekend.

I came into the kitchen to see if fgt had reported back. I hope it went well for them.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Mon 17-Nov-25 21:38:43

Just popping in to say today’s appointment went well. Professor Mansoor said bloods were fine so iv chemo tomorrow afternoon and he’s reintroducing the chemotherapy tablets in conjunction to take at home - but at 50% strength. “See how you go”.

Full strength caused admission to Christie’s for 10 days in September so we will be a bit apprehensive - but trust in his expert opinion.

I shall be anxious it’s a learned response.
Think of us won’t you dear Kitcheners? These are tough times.

My thoughts tonight fly to all those in the quiet corner with their worries and to all on here who have hard times to bear. xx

Hello 👋 everyone! 🥰

Glad to hear that you're cosy and comfy, Charleygirl.
Hope you're keeping warm in wintry Inverness, brook! I had to scrape the car yesterday morning. Made sure its in the garage tonight.
Thinking of you, UsedToBeBlonde, this too shall pass.🙏
Spiros 🐈‍⬛😍
Fingers crossed 🤞 for your quiz, Jaxjacky.
Thinking of our Soops and FGTs, and all with illness, worries or sorrow.

I'm feeling a good bit more human now, beginning to resume my routines. I did my Friday pick up, playtime and pizza night with the Wee Boy, I'd missed that so much!

On Saturday, Ds1, DDIL1 and family hosted a fantastic family celebration for my upcoming 70th birthday. I couldn't have faced a big party etc without DH, this was the perfect alternative, close family in familiar surroundings, everyone had helped, I didn't need to lift a finger. The cake had photos of my first birthday on it!🤣We had a brilliant slideshow and soundtrack of happy family times since the 1950s to our last holiday and Christmas together, it was very happy and upbeat, manageable for me. I enjoyed my afternoon with my children and partners, grandchildren, siblings and in laws. I've been thoroughly spoiled, and supported through another 'first', I'm very thankful. 🙏💕 Tomorrow I will spend my birthday enjoying a spa afternoon with my sisters.

Wishing everyone a peaceful Monday evening and a good night's sleep. TOYA, NNGB.

Sar53 Mon 17-Nov-25 21:44:27

I think we all think of you FGT and Himself.
Positive news today.
Love and best wishes to you both xx

dragonfly46 Mon 17-Nov-25 21:46:48

Good evening onwards and upwards.
So pleased to hear your news FGT.
DS is here for support working both ways!
Night night everyone sleep tight.

Ladyleftfieldlover Mon 17-Nov-25 21:47:39

Hello kitchen people.

That’s a good update FGT2. Onwards and upwards.

I’m having an early night. I was up at 7 am this morning to take granddaughter to school for 8.10. She’s in the choir practicing for a concert at the Royal Albert Hall next March.

I had a good journey home. Compared with last Friday with Storm Claudia and fog, today was a doddle. The M4 ran smoothly and I was home by lunchtime. OH had turned the heating up while I was away - we never agree about heating!

I have my colonoscopy telephone briefing tomorrow. Mmm.

Sleep 💤 tight.

Redcar Mon 17-Nov-25 22:21:31

Good news fgt fingers crossed all goes smoothly this time round.
dragonfly good you have your DS with you for support. I hope your DH makes some progress soon.
grannygravy I hope you find some adventures for the class teddy. When my DDs were at school, their class had a hamster which came home several times. The dog wasn’t impressed!
* grannmarie* I’m pleased you enjoyed your birthday celebrations with your family. Enjoy the spa tomorrow, Happy Birthday!
Night night everyone. Keep warm.

GrandmaC47 Mon 17-Nov-25 23:00:20

So pleased to see your news, fgt 🫰 tomorrow goes smoothly.
Enjoy your birthday spa day, Grannmarie. 🎂🥂

cornergran Mon 17-Nov-25 23:19:43

That’s positive news fgt. Of course you’re anxious, there’s been a lot to be anxious about as well as the positive days which I hope will grow and fill the anxious space.

Have I understood correctly granmarie and tomorrow is your birthday? If so many happy birthday wishes, a spa sounds just right to me although I must own I’ve never had the experience.

Hoping for brighter times for you both dragonfly, that mutual support is pure gold.

Oh the class teddy grannyg. I recall one going on a road trip to France and somehow losing his passport (!), the other spent a very damp weekend drying out after an unscheduled attempt to teach him to swim in a paddling pool. I think I’d make your lodger some sort of mini hard hat and turn him into Teddy the Tradesman complete with very large hammer to help with the renovations. He’d probably best not go back to school covered in paint 😂.

Hooray for fixed heating charley, it sounds as if we’ll all need to keep warm for a few days.

uttb I’m sorry the treatment is so distressing, have you been given any idea how long before it settles? A shame to be shut away.

We’re home after a long weekend away with friends. It’s become a bit of a pre Christmas tradition to meet in a hotel between our homes for a catch up with no need to venture into a kitchen. We’ve had a truly enjoyable weekend, being with them is a real pleasure. An added bonus was a stop this morning for coffee with another friend, she and I survived the NHS together many years ago now, two hours of nattering and we were on our way home in bright sunshine, such a contrast to the rain and very wet, muddy lanes of Friday. Our car is a fetching shade of field!

Time for sleep. I hope! Mr C. has beat me to it but then he can sleep for the world. I often think he has my share of sleep as well as his own

Rest well everyone. Night, night

Grannydaisy1 Tue 18-Nov-25 06:43:01

fgt2 Good positive post yesterday. Wishing you all the best for today for you both

kittylester Tue 18-Nov-25 07:17:00

Brilliant news fgt. I can understand your apprehension but you sound to be in good hands. Sending ((hugs)).

That sounds like a lovely, gentle way to celebrate your birthday Grannmarie and very thoughtful of your family.

Your weekend away sounds just the thing, corner.

utbb, please don't worry about your looks, people love you for you!

grandMattie Tue 18-Nov-25 07:42:43

fgt, I hope that today goes well. Chemo is absolutely not for the faint hearted. And in my experience, it’s almost a bad for the onlookers as for the patient.
Many hugs, much love and loads of prayers 🫂

TillyTrotter Tue 18-Nov-25 08:15:58

All best wishes to the fgt ‘s today. Hope the half-strength chemo tablets after treatment at the Christie suit Himself much better. Will be thinking of you 🦋

Yiayia4 Tue 18-Nov-25 09:40:47

Happy Birthday Grannmarie Welcome to the 70 Club.🎉🎁🎈🎂

Very positive news FGT thinking of you and hope all goes well.❤️

Spiro is being neutered tomorrow so no food this evening and tomorrow morning! a real challenge he loves his food.🙀

Yiayia4 Tue 18-Nov-25 09:44:03

Sending lots of love to utbb hopefully your start to heal very soon.🌻

Jaxjacky Tue 18-Nov-25 09:46:32

A very Happy Birthday to you Grannmarie 🎂🥳🥂k your weekend celebration sounds perfect, enjoy this afternoon.
The best news FGT for himself, I admire your courage and love xx

Usedtobeblonde Tue 18-Nov-25 09:59:40

Good positive news FGT, long may it last and provide some happy times for you both.

A very happy birthday to you Grannmarie.
You will miss the most important person as you celebrate it but he would want you to be happy I’m sure .
You have a very supportive and loving family .

I hope Spiros gets through his op Yia and comes home hungry but pain free.

I am still looking very unsightly and am sticking to indoors but this Sunday I am going to an Inner Wheel celebratory lunch with my friend across the road and really don’t want to let her down, I think I must brave it out.
I am also visiting a friend on Thursday who is just 89.
The mutual friend who is taking me has already seen me and the birthday “girl” has known me for over 50 years so will understand, it is people who don’t know me I really don’t want to be seen by, how vain is that?

I have done nothing at all yet this morning , so with the hope that you all have the best day you can I will love you and leave you and get on.

hulahoop Tue 18-Nov-25 10:21:22

Good news Fgt hopefully your Oh will tolerate half strength chemo better .
You have a very thoughtful family enjoy your Spa day Granmarie.
