Good Morning Friday 19th September 2025
(48 Posts)Good morning from a dry but breezy Torbay.
DH had booked to travel over from France yesterday but then a National Strike was announced! He’s hoping to make it today, having rebooked his €* ticket, costing thrice the price of his original one which was booked in advance. Let’s hope trains behave to carry him to Paris!
A brief trip to Lidl this morning.
Other have more serious worries especially regarding their health. Wishing them and all of you as good a day as possible.
🦩💐🦩🥰🦩
Good morning from a dry Bristol.
I managed to dry a load of towels yesterday afternoon! The sun is warm enough and the wind light.
I was very tired yesterday morning. I had mopped my floors, then been to the next village for the building society for cash. This is not to be taken lightly as the return journey involved the hill which was so easy on the outward journey! In fact, I must have looked so cream crackered that at least 2 people at my tai-chi class asked if I was ok.
I felt a lot better after lunch and a nap. So much so that I made some30 jars of plain and cranberry marmalade.
Today, I’ve got the 30 minute walk (downhill) to my first Spanish class of the academic year, after which DD is taking me to lunch somewhere.
She also needs my tumble dryer for something (?) and to look up stuff re. scam. Don’t ask, I hate, hate, hate thinking about it. Any mention causes resurgence of anxiety, anger and horror of what happened.
A nice thing happened yesterday. Last week, I realised that I had lost my gold signet ring, given to me by my godfather for my 21st. It’s loose when the weather is cold and too tight when it’s hot…. Anyway, I felt very sad about it, but having no idea where or when I lost it, I accepted that it was just another blooming thing happening to me. When I was looking for my keys in the depths of my handbag aka black hole of Calcutta, there was a lump. I investigated. My ring! 👏👏👏
I hope those with mountains to climb have a better day. Carpe diem 🦩🦩🦩🦩
How awful for you both, Ash. I hope you manage to be reunited soon,
We have a bus strike this week in Bristol, and another two weeks scheduled. I don’t know if they are going to be consecutive of random…
Happy news about your ring, grandMattie; it reminded me of the Parable of The Widow’s Mite! Enjoy your lunch with DD,
Poor DH has had a few problems with travelling this year; it was particularly distressing last Spring when I was so unwell and he was desperately trying to come over, often at short notice. Praise the Lord and thanks daily for my stable health in recent months. ✝️
Good morning from Shropshire.A dry day forecast.
We had a lovely few hours catching up with our friends yesterday.Even though it must be twenty years since we saw them we just picked up where we left off.
Today we are going over to see mum.She is 93 today.
I hope olddudders has a trouble free journey today Ash🙏🏻and pleased you found your ring mattie.
Thoughts with all struggling.
Wishing everyone the best day possible🦩🌻
Good morning from a still warm Black Country, where sun is predicted today.
The walk yesterday was in dull cloudy weather, but was so warm we were all taking our coats off. Quite muddy underfoot too. My friend who I give a lift too managed to slip on a step and hit her lip, and her wrist started to swell too. I text her last night, and she said her lip had gone done, but bruise was coming out on the wrist. She felt so foolish, but we all said it could happen to any of us.
One of the men it the group had just celebrated his 70th, so he had paid for coffee/tea and cake for us all. Lots stayed in the cafe afterwards, many more than usual
.
Hairdresser today, cut and highlights, The girl who owns the salon lives in Cheshire, and drives 2 hours on M6 everyday! Then of course 2 hours back!
Wishing your DH a safe journey Ash , and you are reunited soon.
Have a good day everyone.
Good morning, it’s dry and there’s a sliver of a crescent moon in the almost clear sky. I’m hoping it’s good drying weather today because the dogs’ beds need washing.
Art group this morning, looking forward to that especially as I have decided not to do my afternoon groups on a Thursday - I’m completely wiped out by the afternoons for some odd reason.
I’ll walk tiddler first thing, prepare something for lunch and get the first load of washing hung out before I go.
Yesterday I cleaned the upstairs windows inside and washed the net curtains from my bedroom, I might leave them down as the bedroom is much brighter without them?
Hope today goes well for everyone 🌹
Morning all from West Oxfordshire. I have a feeling that summer will be back today. I haven’t put my sandals away yet.
I am very pleased with my latest print. It looks good on my bedroom wall. I enjoyed the U3A Art History talk yesterday on the Huns, Goths and Vandals.
Dentist this morning. I am having a small filling - I could have had a weekend away for the price!
Elder son and my granddaughter are coming for the weekend tomorrow so I may do some baking for them.
Have a good day, especially those of you with difficulties.
Thank you, Susan56. He’s already at his local station and is hoping he reaches Paris in good time. Happy birthday to your Mum. 93 is some age!
Good morning from Cambridgeshire where we are forecast a warm sunny day. I am hoping to get my holiday washing out early! DH has gone to a meeting in Reading so I have a quiet day to catch up on everything post holiday.
A quiet weekend is also planned and looks likely the rain will come. I must get my Autumn wardrobe sorted now.
Wishing everyone a good day.
Good morning, hope your DH gets to you today Ashcombe
Pleased you found your ring grandMattie have you thought about having it resized?
Gym and coffee after this morning, then I will attack the ironing (I brought the ironing board and iron upstairs before the builders arrival)
Not sure where we will go to eat tonight, but we have to go somewhere.
Thinking of those with troubles or ills 🌸
Good morning, Michael and all GNs from South Yorkshire where there is red sky in the morning, but we are forecast a dry day. Yesterday’s woodland walk was punctuated with downpours made worse by the rain dropping off the trees, but everyone enjoyed being out. I think we were all suffering from cabin fever!
I had a light lunch with DD and GS who was heavily into his preparations for leaving for university today.
I then went to the nearby decorating shop to pick up paint samples and found they still had half day closing on Thursday (!) so had to drive to the edge of town to the Dulux Centre to get them. The new road layout threw me a bit because it’s a while since I’d been down there, but I managed and got what I wanted. I think the colours will finally do (they’ll have to - I’m totally fed up with it now) but I’ll put another coat on the test patches this morning.
I must start clearing the decks today ready for the decorator to start on Monday. It will be chaos for a few days next week.
Have the best day you can, folks.
Good morning all from Polmont where it's currently 15° and damp. Susan a very happy birthday to your mum. She shares her birthday with me! Ashcombe safe journey to your DH.
Yesterday my trip to St Andrews didn't happen. I was just outside Forestmill when there was an almighty bang and an odd continual noise from the car. I managed to stop safely and went out for a look. My exhaust had fallen off, however it got stuck under the car and wouldn't budge. Just as I was contemplating what I could do, my hero in the shape of a van man stopped. He brought out a hammer and freed the exhaust for me. I limped home, heart in mouth, sounding like a tank. Halfway home my uncle phoned from France where they are on holiday. I was unable to answer as Bluetooth had disconnected, so that added to my worries. Once home, the local garage can't sort it til Monday, so that's a nuisance but Kwik fit couldn't look at it until the end of next week. The problems ramped up when the council didn't take away the couches, only the rug. When I investigated, I discovered it was entirely my fault and I hadn't completed the form properly.
I did return my uncle's call and he was phoning to wish me happy birthday which was a better end to the morning.
Today is my birthday - didn't I say?😂 It will be a nice one. Dd is taking me out for lunch and D's is joining us, his St Andrews trip being over. So I'm looking forward to that. Other than that, life goes on. Have a good day all
GrandMattie I'm so glad you found your ring.
Good morning Mick and all GN#s from a very dark and still morning in North Yorkshire. Cant even really see the outline of the tree to judge wind but no sound of rain or wind so maybe we might get a decent day.
I am a little sad that today is the Harrogate Autumn Fair, that I always used to go to. It wasnt just the great shows of lovely flowers and plants, new plants to desire etc, but meeting with many gardening friends. The acer group and of course I would be one of the first to the bulbs especially my snowdrop collection. Although the prices for new snowdrops had got to the ridiculous and out of my league. The actual show has moved to Newby Hall, but I know it is no good even thinking of going, could not do the walking round and the price has gone up a lot. Never mind I have Stokesley show to look forward to tomorrow, hoping the weather wont be too wet. But there I shall have my chair to sit in or back to the car for a rest if it pours down and quite a lot of tents to enjoy. Love it all from the horses to the rabbits to the jams and cakes.
Yesterday I did not even go to the meeting, and it was a long day of sorting things out, burning some financial pages etc. Jessie came and so now my bed has had the mattress turned and all clean bedding on it and all the floors hoovered, washed or whatever, so that the rest of the flat looks much better. I did some shopping yesterday, and as is usual, the other day took several bags to get a lot of things and came back with only one bag full, and of course yesterday only planned to get a few things , but various stuff was back in the store so had to buy another bag. Gnash Gnash. I do my best to use my reusable bags, and keep some in the car etc., but was struggling to walk so much , I couldnt go back for the bags. I didnt even get my casserole made but had something from the freezer that I had cooked previously. Well that is what I do it for of course. So todays aims are to get that casserole made this morning, which will then give me my dinner for tonight with a jacket potato, then go down the town for the local paper, fresh bread and pork pie and some fruit, ready to make a picnic to take to the show. Of course the coffee things will be checked over and got ready too. They usually have a good little coffee van, which has fresh made coffee there, so at least when I am there, once I have had my own coffee, there will be more to buy. If I improve physically this morning, I will try and do a bit more on the wretched dresser, which I am totally fed up with dealing with, but no one else could sort paperwork out anyway. I cant believe how long it has taken me when I would have it all done in a morning and even lately , could have it sorted in a day. Well after the rubbish week I have had surely things must improve next week?
They have just been playing birdsong on radio 3 of the swallows , which are getting ready to leave us. Oh dear another sign of autumn. I have resisted putting any heating on so far, and there is some talk of some warmer weather for a few days, but winter draw(er)s on!! Have regretfully put some clean washed summer trousers away, and it is time to check my coats for gloves. I usually put a pair of thin thermal gloves in each coat so that if I am out in the afternoon and perhaps come home later than expected that there are gloves and a hood or fleece little hat to wear. The torches are checked over and the little one Ikeep by the door, ready to pick up, particularly to help finding keyholes and dropped things near the car. Yesterday afternoon saw a rather stupid man cycle by wearing all dark or black clothes with no a light on his bike or himself. The most dangerous time of year I think as we get into winter mode and need to be able to see and be seen. I have seen some very good and sensible dogwalkers go by with the yellow fluorescence on the leads and one little dog had a bright yellow jacket on. Very sensible of the owners. Good for them. Whilst I understand school uniform has to be a sensible dark colour, I have always been trying to persuade schools to incorporate a reflective band on the hem or collar or on a sleeve. Anything that would give a clear indication there was a child there. On dark country lanes and where there are trees and shadows it is not always easy to see them. Sadly also, I see both adults and children not sticking to the code we always had drummed into us, of walking facing the oncoming traffic. My other big tip, which I nearly forgot is to have an opaque white plastic bag folded up small in your pocket. Then on a dark or unlit road take the bag out and hold it on the side nearest the traffic and it will be picked up by the car lights. You then also have a bag if you buy something unexpectedly. Here endeth the lesson!!
Well a bit lighter now and a little breeze and quite grey, but looks quite dry. Wonderful Bach on now to cheer the morning for me. Things are looking up.
Hope you enjoy your fish and chips Mick, fridays always used to be fish and chips didnt they? School dinners always had them on fridays.Ashcome hope that your DH gets over ok without any further hassle. GrandMattie Hope your terms starts well for your spanish lessons and you remember a lot from the last year. As a teacher I remember the range of pupils on the first wek back. Some seemed to have forgotten everything we had done in the previous term, others surprisingly well remembered, but occasionally something you thought they had all understood, you would ask what you thought was an easy question to have the whole class just look at you with blank faces!! Disheartening to feel all your efforts had been for nothing! Lovely that you found your ring. I am very pleased for you for that cheering bit of news.
Susan56, hope you have a lovely day with your mum on her birthday. So glad you had a great time with your old friends. It is so lovely when you still fall back into that easy and familiar mode with friends who have known you for a long time. After all the difficulties you have had to face lately I am glad you had this time to enjoy with them.
Well just seen squirrel 1 or maybe 2, running along fence and up into the tree which is clearer to see now. Hope that everyone has a good day and manages to get something done that they have wanted to for ages . I am quite looking forward to a simple straightforward job, with no extra hassles or expenses!
Good morning from s somerset, dull now and brighter later
So I need to get out, it will have to be a walk, I don`t want to increase my bp too much today as I am nursing a very sensitive area in my mouth. I do know it will take some time to heal and that is at the top of my priority list for now, the healing process
All to do with the old mercury filling from very long ago and it is touch and go just now. Yesterday I felt that it was settling but come evening, I had to use a heat pad on my face, nevertheless I did manage without taking a pain killer. This morning, my breakfast and tea set it off again and salt water rinse made me jump out of my skin. Painkiller has been taken but cycling today would be foolhardy as I breathe through my mouth up the hills
Obviously then, not much doing today but I did change my bed yesterday and also bottomed my bedroom and all bedding is washed and dried. Tbf there is quite a bit of exercise involved in keeping the house nice. My slug nematodes came and I watered them into my back garden and then spotted weeds and dug them out so day to day I do stand a lot and walk a lot
I got in touch with friend yesterday to say I would be able to get her front garden sorted next week, I am so glad that she got the impetus from my visit and has started the process herself. Really pleased in fact and instead of me going there, she will be coming here
Anway the gansey for ds is growing nicely and I am keeping tabs on the pattern, row by row. The day will unfold as it always does
Have a good day
Good morning from a bright day on the Essex coast.
This morning I have an appointment with our accountant and this afternoon I am going to see the new Downton Abbey film. Looking forward to seeing it.
Wishing you all a happy and peaceful day, best wishes to all xx
Happy birthday Grandmabatty.I hope you have a lovely day🥳🍾🥂🎂
Morning from a grey St Austell, should be dry, yesterday we had drizzle and sea mist, we’re both still amazed how busy it is in Cornwall.
We did beach walk, my car is a tip, reminded me of when the children were younger.
Happy Birthday Gbatty have a lovely day 🥂🎂🥳
Glad your ring appeared gmattie I’ve one, same issue in the winter, it’s looser.
Safe journey to oldudders Ashcombe

Good morning everyone from mid Essex. It’s grey at the moment but a warm sunny day is forecast. I was at DD1’s yesterday looking after the dog and then the granddaughters when they came home from school. It was warm with a bit of sun, but not nice enough to sit out in the garden,
I may go to the garden centre to get more compost so I can plant up the bulbs in pots, but may not!
grandmabatty what a nuisance about your car, but I hope you have a nice lunch with your DD and DS today. Happy Birthday!
grandmattie good that you found your ring. Enjoy lunch with your DD.
ash I hope your DH has a trouble free journey today.
I hope those who are poorly feel a little better today
Have the best day possible everyone.
Good morning Mick and everyone from dark and drizzly Carlisle. It's not a good forecast for this morning and I have to go into town on various necessary errands.
Yesterday was a morning of pootling around at various small jobs and, then, after lunch, it was out to a U3A talk. It was a speaker we'd had before, a local historian and novelist. He has a good, powerful speaking voice which was just as well for the mike wasn't working.
Then home to nothing much except brain training and reading.
I'll probably be out all morning so will treat myself to coffee and very likely the costly ginger biscuits. I have a weakness for ginger biscuits but never buy packets of biscuits for the house unless it's Christmas, my birthday or visitors. On those occasions, it's the best ginger biscuits in the world but I suppose I shouldn't advertise them?!
I hope everyone's day works out as desired especially for those of you with pain or problems.
Happy Birthday wishes to you Grandmabatty. Have the best day 🥳 🎁 🌷 🦄
Morning Mick, morning All. Our corner of Somerset is forecast a warm day with some sunshine. Hope it’s right.
A quiet day at home yesterday. It looks as if a payment I thought I’d made yesterday hasn’t gone through so that’s first job today then some garden pottering. Mr C has a blood test early afternoon, we’ll wander out after that as there are yet more bags to deposit at a charity shop.
Very happy birthday wishes grandmab. 🎈🎂🥂
Have the best day you can everyone.
Good morning everyone from Inverness where it’s a dry and bright start to the day
A very Happy Birthday to grandmabatty, enjoy lunch out today and Happy Birthday to Susan’s* mum too 🥂🎂💐
Hoping your DH arrives safely today Ash with no delays
I’ve a volunteering session this morning but no plans for later so will see how the day goes
Enjoy another lovely day on holiday Jax
Thinking of everyone with worries and struggles, hope today is gentle and take care all whatever the day brings 💐
