Well as todays weather is not as forecast (ie its wet and grey not sunny with blue skies) I started to browse the threads on GN (as an avoidance tactic regarding housework tasks wink ) and began wondering how we all came up with our GN names.

If you're happy to tell please do, but remember not to reveal anything which could compromise your anonymity.

Mine - Mamaa - came about as that was how my then 2 year old Grand-daughter said 'Grandma". She's nearly 16 now...

Have a guess! 😃

Joan Armatrading sung this lovely song "Willow", but it was taken, so I became "Wyllow".

those who who know about me and ending an abusive relationship but regaining strength and confidence will know why I chose it.

whywhywhy Sat 20-Sept-25 13:26:43

My mam always said whywhywhy when things weren’t going right. Now I think of her. 🤗

I was also in an abusive relationship (marriage) for a long time. It’s still possesses my head at time. My crafts help.

We had been to Petra the week before I joined. 11 years ago.

Smileless2012 Sat 20-Sept-25 13:31:40

I joined GN when we became estranged from our youngest son and only GC. I was 'smileless' at the time but more than 12.5 years later, smile more than I used toosmile.

Whitewavemark2

My name is the Cornish meaning of my real name.

I am Cornish.

I am guessing you are also called Jennifer 😁

Cabowich Sat 20-Sept-25 13:52:38

Mine comes from the first two letters of my favourite things: cats, books, wine and chocolate.

mokryna Sat 20-Sept-25 13:57:02

My paternal grandmother’s name and my second Christian name on my original birth certificate.

merlotgran Sat 20-Sept-25 14:03:56

I changed my original name because I realised it could identify me. Whilst thinking of a new name I poured a 🍷

Oreo Sat 20-Sept-25 14:08:43

My fave biscuit 🤭

Has anyone else noticed the sad fact that obviously fun threads now have to have the words ‘light hearted’ in the title?

Grannybags Sat 20-Sept-25 14:15:39

Yes, sad isn't it Oreo

The 'bags' is part of a family nick name given to me when I was little. I just swopped the first part for Granny as I had just become one 13 years ago

Gingster

No idea. Think it just came up and I took it.
I’ve never eaten a Gingster pie in my life although others might think , I gorge on them 😂

No - they’re ‘Ginsters’ pasties - no 2nd ‘G’!

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Sat 20-Sept-25 14:27:30

Ladyleftfieldlover

I’m a lady with a small ‘l’ and I love a band called Leftfield

I’ve often wondered about yours! So unusual.
I always shorten it to LLFL and assume you don’t mind as you’ve never pulled me on it. 😁

MrsBrianJones Sat 20-Sept-25 14:33:02

MrsBrianJones - because I wish I was 💜

Not my choice of name.
(I'm saying no more!) 😉

seadragon Sat 20-Sept-25 14:43:51

Enchanted to find seahorses were real creatures and not fairy horses....I then discovered seadragons ......!! I see there is another fan now on Gransnet......

Gelisajams Sat 20-Sept-25 14:47:35

My name and the initials of my grandchildren

TerriBull Sat 20-Sept-25 14:56:53

Play on words. I'm almost sorry it's not actually mine, although I do my best NOT to live up to it, but well .......sometimes just a teeny weeny bit, depending on the circumstances of course!

EkwaNimitee Sat 20-Sept-25 15:09:21

Mine sounds like a quality I try to cultivate. It probably should be ‘mrsworryguts’ !

Musicgirl Sat 20-Sept-25 15:14:32

I have had a career as a professional musician - teaching piano, violin and viola and as an accompanist. I have been a musician all my life so my username was easy.
