Chartreuse, now there's a colour that doesn't suit anyone.

I had a bit of a purple thing going on and now it's moved to orange.
Strange isn't it?
My mother loved grey and I always said we have enough grey in this country without wearing it. It can look great though.
Chartreuse, now there's a colour that doesn't suit anyone.
I feel really bright colours are alarming and extinguish my small nondescript face and short grey hair. So I use those muted greyed colours that say old to some people. I don't know if it's correct for me or not but I cannot be comfortable in something shouty though I am a great talker and loud laugher. I love to see others in bright clothes especially if they have olive or black skin and stronger features.
I still haven’t figured mine out. I know my father was known to say something looked like an old dish cloth on me, (never spared my feelings) . So I choose brighter things because of that.
Green at the mo, looking for a dark green for living room feature wall. Looking at Drab Dulux. I think the style is to colour drench the whole room in one colour by I think that might be too much green.
I had my colours ‘done’ by Colour me beautiful some years ago. I believe I was a Cool Spring (peach/salmon pink/mauve/purple/blue/teal/turquoise/navy). I still like those colours. Even my Mini is turquoise! I love bright colours. I never wear deep pink, maroon, brown, dark green, yellow, mustard, tan. I only wear black when in trousers. My favourite colour is ‘Cadbury’s’ purple.
Music and art being my main things, I have lots of different reactions to differing shades of a colour. I love a clear yellow, prefer a daffodil to a pale primrose yellow , but not only did I like wearing this colour when I had copper coloured hair, but also many years ago my father decorated my sister and my bedroom. He was muttering some unsuitable words for small girls as he did the room, because the paper was cheap and tore easily. But oh it was the very very best coloured room ever and if I found such a paper again I would immediately buy a lot of it. It was a white background with little green and little yellow squiggles or like little worms or grasses wriggling over the paper. When you woke in the morning the light would shine on the paper and y ou always thought that it was a sunny day before you even opened the curtains. It was the most cheering paper to get up to, and it was like seeing the sun on the lovely light green grass, and it started every day in a good state. I have never forgotten it and still seek it out. Never ever want any blue paper in a bedroom, too cold, dont like namby pamby pink but quite like the richer pinks such as one from years ago which I think was called schiperelo or something like that a rich vibrant pink, . My other thing that drives me mad, is why do the british wear such miserable raincoats and coats in the winter? The weather is bad enough never mind everyone walking round like miserable matchstick men. My sailing jacket in bright yellow again, or something in red or light green or an umbrella in white with red umbrellas on the cover, anything to cheer the horrible winters morning up, not add to the gloom and doom! I am always aware of colour, and wear shades of colour that go together quite a bit and stripey tops that go with a matching coloured pair of trousers, but can internally cringe when I see something that really clashes in a horrible way, and wonder how the person could have put those colours together if they are not colour blind!! Different pieces of music , also can have colours , not just in the sound itself but I find myself often thinking of specific colours when listening to Chopin, or Debussy, and for me of course the great J S Bach brightens up and lifts any time of day and any sad occasion, and brings the joy to life of lovely times. Might be a bit addicted to him but hurrah, intend to remain so. Yet can also be uplifted by Poulanc and many others from G@S to Hildegarde of Bingen. Ah time to dash off to a viennese waltz to the kitchen now. Enjoy your colours and music everyone
Favourite colours are is soft pink or soft green
My colour seems to be green, not too insipid though. Never yellow as totally drains any colour from me. Yellow allowed only in the garden.
Now my skin and hair are fading in colour I find that I need to change the colours that I wear. I used to wear black for work but now it drains all the colour from me.
I do find it frustrating that colours are so limited in stores like M&S and John Lewis, M&S used to do cord trousers in lovely colours but now mainly grey, beige, black and navy.
I love a violet blue colour, one of the few colours that has suited me over many years, but fashion seems to dictate what we can buy now. Rich purple cords from M&S saw me through many years, and I currently have four unworn pairs in a smaller size which I've had for a few years.
Stripeygran and Esmay
I am not particularly artistic.
But do enjoy artist galleries and appreciate art..
I also see some days of the weeks as colours, Friday yellow and Sunday red.
The number seven is also red .
I will look into Synesthesia.
Musicgirl-
You echo my thoughts.
Welcome to the Gransnet Synaesthesia Club !
A Gransnet synaesthesia club would be fun Esmay! I have various types of synaesthesia, including music Musicgirl. I believe it can run in families and realised my son shared this trait when he started screaming at me age 4 ‘Switch the radio off Mum, that music’s too brown’. 😀
All pinks.
Yes, Autumncolours, I think you are right as my daughter definitely has it. We both have perfect pitch, too and I wonder if the two are connected.
I love all shades of blue. I generally like bright colours, over dark, but overall it's blue
Autumncolours-To be honest I'm really glad that I'm not alone.
I think that about 1% of the population have synaesthesia.
Once at a party one of my friends introduced me as having the gift of seeing people in colours.
Suddenly I was surrounded by a lot of unfamiliar people demanding to know their colour and there were a couple of dark mutterers !
One of my daughters has it and she is a successful artist and lecturer .
I used to call it being colour sensitive .
Possibly it's being colour oversensitive !
If I need to match a colour -I can do it without a sample .
I've done it twice today.
I love the idea of music being too brown.
It describes a feeling so precisely.
Pink! I have very sallow skin and most colours make me look ill. Pink is good!

I have been colour drenching on my last couple of projects, and I love the results, everything one colour, very dramatic
I want to do my dining room black, but I’m going to experiment with a bathroom first, my decorator is a bit wary, he said he’s never painted a whole room black, but it’s not permanent is it? I’m giving it a go.
Both my son and I have perfect pitch so you may be onto something there Musicgirl. Like you, I associate keys and notes with colours. Weirdly I once described my new striped curtains to my sister as ‘very A Minor’. For me A is yellow, C green, E blue. She understood as she also has synaesthesia though her colours are very different. I have good colour recall too Esmay and can match paint and fabric colours from a sort of filing cabinet of colour in my memory. As a child I thought everyone saw letters, numbers, months etc in colour so when I asked a girl at secondary school what colour her A was and she looked blank I was very surprised!
Professor Jamie Ward at Sussex University has been studying synaesthesia for 20 years and I’ve taken part in various research projects there over the years. They have the latest information here:
www.sussex.ac.uk/synaesthesia/
There is an online questionnaire you can do on there too to add to their research.
Red, without a doubt. People come up and chat to me. I have loads of black from the days when people suggested I was fat at 10 stone. A few favourites will stay but the rest are headed for the charity shop or eBay. I do love bright fuschia.
Orange, burnt orange, red, yellow
I like lots of colors but find some quite horrible , like mustard and maroon. There are some reddish toned purples I dislike but I love natural Amethyst gemstones.
I also really dislike mustard, also khaki and most greens, I make an exception for lime.
But I do love maroon, even though it reminds me of school uniforms.
Autumncolours -thank you very much for the interesting link .
I've only recently started to read up about synaesthesia.
I didn't realise that it's been such a strong part of my life .
Back to mundane chores today !
Grey for me, or navy and white stripes.
