Animal Antics - We Love Them

To lighten the gloom of impending winter and the depressing world news, I am inviting GNs to share stories and pictures of the animals who share and enrich their lives.

I was at a house party once and the host told me that their cat had learned to use the loo. I was intrigued so when the host called me upstairs to witness the cat using the loo I dashed up but I was too late as the cat had finished and I just saw her jumping down. There was, however, solid proof that the cat had indeed used to loo.

I expressed my surprise and admiration and the host shrugged it off and said "The cat never thinks to flush when she's finished."

Our cat literally says 'hello' when you let her in the door or if she wants something but I just can't manage to catch the recording on my phone. What makes it funnier is she is a 'scouse cat' and she definitely has the accent 😂

My cat is a little thief. Leave your doors or windows open at your peril. He has brought home socks, half eaten sandwiches, a steak slice, a warm sausage roll and a chicken leg, among other things. He never attempts to eat any of this but finds me and deposits them at my feet. He is so puffed up and proud of his offerings.

I'm laughing at various hilarious animal antics here!

Years ago, I used to have 2 pet corn snakes named Beady, because of her beautiful little eyes and Sparkle, because of her glorious scales.

Every night, Beady insisted on lying on my lap for a gentle all-over massage and wouldn't get off until I'd done her from to-to-toe!

She was so lovely and would lie around my neck and press her little face against mine!

Sparkle just liked a gentle head massage!

One of my GD's taught her rabbit to pray. She would sit him on his haunches on her lap and told him "Say your prayers, Bob", whereupon this daft rabbit would slap his front paws together. Sadly, Bob can pray all day now as he is in that great warren in the sky. I often wondered what Simon Cowell would have made of Bob. He likes animal acts.

My retriever opens closed doors. He bats the handle down with his paw, then pulls the door towards him and goes out. It's fine at the back of the house into the garden, but we had to change the swivel thumb turn lock on the front door because he mastered that one too.
He has also broken three cat flaps poking his head through.

If only they could learn to close the door after themselves.

We had a Scottish terrier who was daft as a brush, he was terrified of cats but would bark at them furiously from behind the fence but if one ventured into the garden he ran whimpering to the back door where he would scratch madly to be let in.
He would also get his snout stuck between the slats of the fence so that we had to go round the other side and gently release it.
When we weren’t there to do this neighbours would know to push his snout gently back in.
Silly dog 🤣

This sounds a bit crude but last week there were 2 very small neat turds in our downstairs loo. I asked my husband if he was responsible for not flushing. We realised it was one of our cats, the same one that can open the back sliding door unless we lock it. Unfortunately it was just a one off, back to the litter tray now.

Loving these!

Looks so innocent. That toy behind him does not belong to us.

My neighbours had the most beautiful white cat who loved to sleep in our garden in the sun. I had a large terracotta pot with Greek ladies as a pattern on the pot. One day we saw her ladyship using it as her loo. It was the perfect fit and there she sat doing her business in all her stateliness.

When I had my cat, I was not allowed to throw any bread or any typeof food out on the lawn for the birds! The minute he saw it, he would go out and collect all the pieces and bring them back indoors, through his cat flap - back and forth he would go until there was not a crumb left on the lawn!

He also used to collect worms when it rained! I have no idea how he got them, but he would bring them in and tuck them under the doormat at the kitchen door! Many a time I would find a flattened worm there when we had forgotten to check!

My lovely cat Harry sits like a human on the sofa. I swear he’s more human than cat. When I fostered cats for a local rescue he was my only failure. Of the over 200 cats that passed through, he was the only one that I just couldn’t part with. He makes me laugh every day. We think he’s probably around 13-14 years old now so I’m grateful for every day that I still have him.

I have a child lock on my fridge because my sweet little tortoiseshell cat, Ivy, would open the door with her paw.

The cat 🐈 likes to come for a stroll with me while I'm recuperating from major surgery. But now that I can walk further than his comfort zone/distance limit, he prefers to sit down and wait. He's much happier when we walk back!

His loyalty is tested if hubby comes with us as far as the hamlet's communal recycling bins and walks home while I want to continue. 🐈 doesn't know who to go with!😅

During DIY projects he likes to "supervise".

My daughter's Bernese Mountain dog was VERY naughty until he came out of his "teenager" (ie3 dog years) years. His favourite past time was eating socks, until the family became tidier and didn't leave them lying around. Unfortunately a large sock belonging to the man of the house disappeared, and after $9,000 dollars worth of xrays and surgery it was recovered. Another time my daughter thought that he was rather quiet, and found him in the dining room carefully nibbling along the edge of her daughter's birthday cake sitting on the dining table. It was in the middle of the table but because he is so big, not a problem.

Many years ago we had a cross breed rescue dog called Bruno. He was extremely friendly but hated hats. Our post man always wore a woolly bobble hat. One day we had a knock on the door and our post man was standing there laughing. He politely asked if he could have his hat back! Very puzzled he explained our dog had leaped up, hooked his front paws over our six foot high gate, pinched the hat off his head and retreated back into our back garden! We quickly retrieved the hat and were so thankful our post man saw the funny side of his antics. Needless to say we made sure he was always inside when the post was due!!!

We had a cat that used to follow us just like a dog when we went out; we could walk for a good mile or more and he would be behind us all the way there and back; his little legs must have got very tired but he didn't give up

This is a photo of our beautiful schnoodle, Jack, when he destroyed my feather duster as a puppy. He's now 15 years old and just as gorgeous.

Our cat used to go to the back gate when my father was due home from work. He worked very irregular shifts and sometimes overtime but the cat always knew what time to meet him. Mum knew when to have his meal ready.

Great stories

We had several guinea pigs over the years all had different personalities. The last two we had have sadly passed but they always knew when I was in the kitchen rustling bags and chopping for their evening meal. Tom the black and white one and Jerry the coloured one.
