Following the accusations earlier this week, Prince Andrew has relinquished his title Duke of York. Same for his ex-wife.

He will still keep his title of Prince Andrew.

But I guess that's the end of the titled road for Fergie.

Andrew so adored by his mother she kept title Duke Edinburgh for his younger brother

We keep being told that Prince Andrew was the favourite child.

What is the evidence for this and where did it come from?

I don’t really get this, as Andrew was already a Duke by the time his father died?

Anniebach Tue 21-Oct-25 16:30:04

Yes and Edward took the title Earl of Wessex 1999, Duke of Edinburgh 2023

The second son is given the title Duke of York, the Queen was following tradition doing this.

That’s why it was given to Andrew,

Her own father (second son) was Duke of York.

I thought a Duke was a higher rank than an Earl though Anniebach? As Andrew was already a Duke, he couldn’t become a second one when his father died and his title became available, could he?

Anniebach Tue 21-Oct-25 16:37:37

Edward became a duke after his father died

Butterandjam, did you mean George III or Edward VIII? Edward VIII was the only one who abdicated. There was a Regency in George III's final years because he was mentally ill.

StoneofDestiny Tue 21-Oct-25 16:47:13

Elegran
But, Stoneof Destiny , Andrew IS a prince, and was born one automatically without any investiture, by virtue of being the son of the heir to the throne. His dukedom was deliberately given to him and legalised, and that could be reversed by the appropriate legislation, but there is no legislation to remove a title which was not specifically granted

I believe Letters Patent is the mechanism to remove his title if Prince. Ridiculous he gets to decide to ‘stop using his titles’ rather than being stripped from him. Ridiculous it’s up to the Royals whether he stays a Prince! It’s like the Middle Ages.

I think it was always intended that Edward would become Duke of Edinburgh after his father's death.

I just feel really sorry for their daughters who have always seemed so nice and normal It must be so hard for them It might be good to see Andrew donate to a group for abused people but the daughters deserve to be treated well and supported by the royal family they have so much to face

I'm afraid to say you may be obliged to change your views pretty soon.

Do you have inside information about the Princesses, StripeyGran?

Presumably not to be divulged on here though.

ronib Tue 21-Oct-25 17:15:37

Oh yes Allira they are the sweetest girls imaginable…..

Allira Tue 21-Oct-25 17:25:28

Despite their parents.

Accepting ludicrously expensive gifts (often jewellery) from their Father's overseas "business contacts" (frequently of Middle Easter origin). Comfortable having your wedding paid for by a Middle Eastern acquaintance of your Father.

Taking up to 14 holidays a year, ostensibly whilst 'working' accompanied by tax funded protection officers (although the Princesses lost full time protection in 2011 due to cost cuting - said to be very much driven by Charles.

Princess Beatrice's husband is a multi-millionaire and Eugenie's husband is no slouch when it comes to net worth.

That's about as far away from normal as you can get in my book, but then I suppose it depends on your definition of normal.

We have no real information about the young girls involved apart from information filtered through the media. I too am a mother, grandmother if not feminist. I would do everything in my power to protect young girls and young men from abuse. But it was up to the parents of those children involved who failed to protect.

The parents of these girls are as guilty, if not more guilty, as Epstein et al. I recall reading years ago that the father of the woman who made the accusations wanted to use P A! Where did he think she was sleeping when not under his roof? Not sure if it's true but was he employed at Mar Y Largo, Trump's place?

The sins of the father shall be visited upon the children ....

Referring to Beatrice and Eugenie who are tainted by being the daughters of their parents, according to some.

ronib Tue 21-Oct-25 17:50:23

Some members of the RF are decent people. Anyone who was at university with Prince Edward will say that he was a very shy person. It just so happens that Queen Mary gave my father half a crown (her lady in waiting actually) when she saw me as a baby in Regent’s Park…. Seriously… it was a very long time ago.
Although I am sure there’s good and not so good in every family?
It’s pointless to direct criticism at Eugenie and Beatrice - they are not their father’s keeper .

Smileless2012 Tue 21-Oct-25 18:20:33

Pointless and wrong ronib.

Allira Tue 21-Oct-25 18:32:06

If a father travels with his work and brings back presents for his daughters, do they question them?

I didn't, neither did my DC.
The cost is relative to income.

As for paying for their weddings, did they know? Certainly my DC didn't question where the money came from for their weddings although it was queried in the bank if I was money-laundering when transferring a relatively small sum overseas!

Anniebach Tue 21-Oct-25 18:48:38

Weekend, Telegraph , I think it was Telegraph said ‘Beatrice and Eugenie visited Epstein with their mother when he left prison , I don’t buy the Telegraph so repeating a headline

Iam64 Tue 21-Oct-25 20:12:42

Annie, that visit is repeated in other news eg daily mail

Anniebach Tue 21-Oct-25 20:20:30

I only saw that one headline Iam , thought it unusual it wasn’t shouted loudly

Mollygo Tue 21-Oct-25 22:21:25

Im no supporter of Prince Andrew. I’m so disinterested that my knowledge of Sarah Ferguson is almost wholly gained from GN.

The PA/JE business is sickening, even more so because it wasn’t just those two who were involved. Other men, so far unnamed were ‘enjoying’ the young women supplied and possibly still are, in different places.

Is it right to do a pile on the daughters? Do they not have enough to cope with?

Allira Tue 21-Oct-25 22:28:42

I don't think so either.
If the girls went for a holiday there, I expect everything seemed quite normal when they were there, no sign of anything untoward.

Hope all of the other Epstein abusers get an equally deserved amount of scrutiny and 'punishment ' when their names are revealed.
Andrew certainly deserves all that has come to him.
