Breakfast in bed, yes or no?

I have just read an excerpt from Baroness Glenconner’s book.
It describes how at house parties all the married ladies received breakfast in bed.

It seems a very outdated practice.

I cannot think of anything worse than eating in bed or even a bedroom for that matter.

Now a cup of tea is more than acceptable bit food a big fat NO!

Would you relish a breakfast tray in bed?

Oh I'm terrible for eating in bed but I have my own TV in here and don't have to watch sports

No, never for me. I like to get up and have a quiet half hour in the kitchen with my oatmeal, coffee and magazine. Frivolous reading for me in the morningsmile

The only time I will ever have a drink or something to eat in bed is if I am ill.

Love a breakfast in bed on the days when I’m not out early to a gym class or doing school run with one or two grandchildren, I get my bowl of fruit, yoghurt and seeds myself and quite happily have that with a cuppa and in bed, often watching Sewing Street reruns or a vlogger on YouTube.

No breakfast in bed but always have my late snack in bed at night whilst I clear my emails and read. Love the cosiness and warmth of my bed at night.

I have had breakfast in bed ( porridge, toast or fruit and yoghurt) plus a cup of tea for many , many years now ( since the children left home.
He worked so many hours for so many years and held the fort with our 4 children so he loves to do this small thing for me now .
I always get up after I have my tea , bathe and get on with the day. It's not about lying in or being lazy

My morning cup of tea in bed is much appreciated.

Breakfast in bed with lovely food is great in a private hospital the days after an operation.
Especially when the NHS have paid for your operation.

I make myself tea and a toasted teacake at the weekend, crumbs and all. I love it and would probably have my evening meal in bed, reading my book, if I could get away with it.

I have breakfast in bed at weekend. During the week I leave it until the last moment before leaving the house for work to eat, so eat in the kitchen then.

I like a cup of tea in bed - where it’s comfortable and warm!
When I was a child we used to help dad make breakfast in bed for our mum on Sunday mornings whilst dad fed us downstairs.

No thanks as I don't eat breakfast or anything except coffee until midday. I never eat or drink in bed unless I'm really ill and can't go downstairs.

Foxi48 My husband and I have just had our porridge 🥣 and a cup of tea, and we live in a house on an hill overlooking Great Malvern and it’s nice that visibility is good today.

I'm with Grandma batty, I'm a get up, shower and dress person, occasionally the other half brings me a cuppa and I accept, can't hurt his feelings!!!

Growing we all loved a full cooked breakfast in bed every Sunday, courtesy of my lovely dad. Once married I never had another. My husband thought it was the strangest thing and now I’m afraid I do too, having loved it all those years. Always have water beside the bed but no food unless I’m really poorly.

When we went on a cruise, I liked to have room service breakfast. DP, or XH
was there to answer the door, so I had the joy of just staying in bed, not having to emerge til I felt like it.

Etoile2701 Tue 28-Oct-25 09:39:24

Not for me. Not even a cup of tea.

mabon2 Tue 28-Oct-25 13:14:14

Neither tea nor breakfast in bed for me. I like to sit at a table in the dining room for all my meals although I now live alone (widow) and children have fled the nest. Very civilised.

When our children were in their teens, the kitchen was often the location of much foul temper at a time of day when I’m best not spoken to… so my lovely DH started bringing breakfast for both of us up to the bedroom. It was lovely to share a quiet moment together at the start of the day. They’ve now flown the nest but we have carried on the habit — and it’s my favourite time of day. In theory we are both reading the news, but in practice DH can’t actually read much because I’m busy sharing what I’ve just read. And we both work so no lounging about! It’s on a strict timetable. I’m up and out with the dog by 6am, then at the piano until 7:30 whilst DH makes breakfast. Then back to bed to eat before showering at 8, and out the door by 8:30.

Works for us! I even manage toast without getting crumbs everywhere. Each to their own of course!

Love breakfast in bed. First thing I did when I finally retired.

I love it !

He is a lark and I am an owl, so I often get woken up with a cuppa and an offer of toast (ignoring the fact that after 54 years, he has not registered that I am not a toast fan, but the thought counts).

My bedroom gets a lovely early morning sun, so a book and breakfast would be really lovely
