Good morning from Bristol on this Remembrance Day. The weather promises to be as gloomy as yesterday.
What a palaver! A large lorry turned up at 11am and delivered the heater/s, this took up most of the sheltered path next to my flat. Then about an hour later, a very nice man came to replace the defective heater.
Didn’t start well. The old heater is only connected to the night electricity; there is no easy access to daytime power, required to work the computer in the modern heaters. He was flummoxed for a while. The old was removed and the new mostly replaced. The electrician then went to do the other ones on the estate, came back around 4pm and said he needed “stuff” like cables to finish off the job and would be back today….
The old radiator is wider and shallower than the new one, leaving 10x40-ish cm strips down each side. This will require re-plastering, rather than just sanding and re-painting. I sincerely hope that Anchor will bear the cost and trouble of making good. Fortunately, Teflon man will be here next week so I can fight for my rights.
I’m not sure why they wanted me on the WI committee other than muscle, I felt completely redundant.
Today is empty, like my fridge. I must shop at some stage as the rest of the week is busy.
I hope today is kind to all, especially those with mountains to climb.

Any news from fgt?

Pantglas2 Tue 11-Nov-25 05:49:53

Good morning Mick from a dry and dark north Wales coast where the chamberpot is about to be filled with my wide awake brew☕️

A full on day ahead, after the quietest weekend (which has proper reset my busy mind 🤯) with lots of fiddly, bitty stuff to sort but my super power is….A LIST! Oh the exhilaration that comes with a ✅

Lovely photos yesterday and Latham is on our Bingo winnings outing list for next year Blossoming…just need to win first😄. Might need a lot of lucky Snowball/Full Houses to get to the southern hemisphere Ekwanimitee - good to see you back!

After a quick consultation with the staff here at PG Towers it was agreed that no benefit was obtained from the recent experiment and a reversion to normal practice has been welcomed by all parties…which is why I’m up so bluddy early again🤦‍♀️

Good morning from Malta where the high will be 23°C. None of the predicted rain has appeared, it has been dry and sunny every day although rather windy yesterday

I am meeting a friend for coffee this morning. Haven’t seen her for a while so will enjoy catching up on news.

Then home to watch the tennis. I really do spend far too much time sitting on my sofa but I do enjoy watching the matches.

Had a long chat with DGD who is so grown up now. She seems happy and has settled well into her new school and softball teams. I haven’t seen her in person for three years which grieves me.

Hoping you all have a good day.☀️

Good morning all from Polmont where it's currently 4° and dry. Feels cold. GrandMattie I sincerely hope that the heater is fixed today. Pantglas I'm the snorer here.
Yesterday started off really badly. I got the boys to school and dgs2 refused to get out of the car. He was howling that he didn't want to go, he wanted to stay with mummy. I eventually coaxed him out, still howling and tried to encourage him to go to nursery, all the while coming up with reasons why he should go. Three year olds aren't interested in reasons. He was in full meltdown mode. One granny tutted at him, presumably she didn't see the stookie 🙄 and another tried to speak to him - not happening. Still howling, we got as far as the nursery gate. I told him he could work in the library with me and that calmed him down. I managed to speak to his nursery teacher and she tried to convince him, but he hid behind me and wouldn't talk to her.
So off we went to the library where he immediately cheered up and found a book. After half an hour, his lovely nursery teacher brought three of his friends to see him. He quite happily took them to look at books , I thrust his bag at her and scarpered. I did say she could phone me if she needed to. When I went to pick him up, he was quite happy and had enjoyed his day. I think he was out of his routine and a bit scared too. The rest of the day was a doddle compared to that! At one point, the three of us were cuddled on the couch watching Peter Rabbit so I'll take that as a success. Dsil picked up dgs1 for football and dd picked up dgs2. She also brought me walnut whips, my favourite thing.
Today I'm hoping the nursery drop off will be less difficult. Then I must do a small ironing. I've been saying that for days. I have a gammon to roast too. Have a good day all.

Aldom Tue 11-Nov-25 06:16:07

Good morning Mick and everyone.
It's eight days since I moved into my new home. I'm really missing my wonderful circle of friends in Oxfordshire and the many activities that kept me occupied and stimulated. I'm feeling rather low.
However, today I take delivery of a new table and chairs, so that's something to look forward to.
grandMattie I do hope your heater works well and that Anchor makes good the damage to the wall.
Thinking of all who are worried, sad or coping with illness. smile

RosesandLilac Tue 11-Nov-25 06:18:21

Good morning, damp and chilly here on the hillside in south Glos.
Not a lot done yesterday, I felt very dizzy on the early dog walk yesterday, most odd feeling so I didn’t do my volunteering stint at the school. I felt a lot better by mid afternoon so did some bits of art stuff.
I want to get on with another painting today, I’m following a tutorial by my favourite artist and I have everything prepared.
No dog walker today so I hope we will take the dogs to the village for a good walk. Bigger dog needs to stretch her legs!
Wishing you all a good day 🌹

Grandmabatty Tue 11-Nov-25 06:18:54

Aldom I sympathise. I'm sure when you are settled you will find other activities to do. It's understandable to feel a bit flat after the excitement of moving.

Morning Mick, morning All. I can see puddles so there must have been overnight rain. More forecast today.

A wet trip to town yesterday morning was well worth it. A magician at specsavers sorted Mr C’s malfunctioning hearing aid, relief all round. There was posh hot chocolate for me and coffee for Mr C to celebrate. Another lift to spirits on the way home when super staff in a local charity shop assured us collecting our current sofa would be straightforward once we have a firm delivery date for its replacement.

Off to meet friends this morning. Our usual November get together when we wander a museum and spend a lot of time in the excellent cafe. All indoors!

What a morning grandmab. Going to the library together was inspired. 🤞 for an easier start this morning.

I’m off to add walnut whips to this weeks shopping list. grin.

Have the best day possible everyone.

Aldom Tue 11-Nov-25 06:29:07

Thank you Grandmabatty flowers

Morning from a still dark S Hants, rain due this evening after a showery yesterday. Hope your heater is sorted today gMattie before next weeks chill, FGT has been posting on various threads.
Well handled GBatty doesn’t take much to disrupt the routine of a 3 year old.
It’ll take time Aldom asany change does, maybe find your local library for information on groups?
Yesterday late afternoon and evening we had power cuts, pre warned it was still a nuisance and the evening one affected the pub, so quiz was off. It showed our need for a couple more torches and some motion detector lights on the stairs, but the gas hob was useful.
No big plans today, we’ll see what pans out.
Thoughts with the poorlies .

Good morning, Michael and all GNs from a still dark South Yorkshire. Yesterday was a bit of a lost day; the morning was lost because I had to wait in for a call from the nurse at the surgery to discuss my recent blood results, so missed the opportunity to walk with our local walking group. The afternoon was lost because it was then pouring down with rain and the plumber rang and asked if he could come and sort out my leaking downstairs loo. Hopefully that is now fixed and will cause no further difficulties. John used to be my next door neighbour. He is always most apologetic when he presents his bill, but I don’t expect favours - he has to make a living. GS rang in the evening for a chat. He’s on his reading week this week and so I will have the chance to see him while he’s home.
Gym for me this morning and then school volunteering this afternoon.
Have the best day you can folks.

Good morning Mick and all GN's from a very dark and chilly North Yorkshire. Cant see the tree , not even an outline, but no sound of rain at the moment, although promised rain on the forecast last night. Creaking around again today. Not a very good night and feeling very weary.

Didnt get round to making that casserole yesterday, so that is the first job on the list today as the meat is defrosted and dont want to waste it. I would like to go to Thirsk to see all the Yarnbombers lovely work today, but as usual it will be a matter of waiting to see how my back fares after a bit of waking up and moving about. There are a lot of bollards etc to look round and would be much better to walk round them and enjoy them, rather than going round in the car, having to find places to park etc. It is too far to risk going on the yellow peril, so we shall see.

Yesterday I did manage to sort though more bits and so last night had to put the rubbish out, and for the life of me couldnt remember if it is ordinary rubbish week or recycle week, so it was a matter of putting both lots out and see what goes later today. They recently changed the day for collection, and I am still having to remind myself, to be ready. Still havent got to the end of the dresser sorting, but had a reasonable stab at it yesterday. I had thought to go out for a bit of shopping but as the weather wasnt too brilliant and I had got stuck into the sorting, I carried on while I was up to it. Today the plan is to check through the paperwork of things like insurance and checking mot stuff etc., as I do not want to find I have let something lapse by mistake, and have to rush around getting it sorted. It is bad enough now I am 80 , finding companies who are not charging the earth simply because you are 80! I can see that eventually that will be my reason for stopping driving. Not my competence or ability to drive safely but ludicrous charges for insurance. Oh well , just have to see what is on offer. So at the moment the casserole and paperwork are the somewhat boring efforts for today. i hope something more interesting comes along to enjoy!

Well GrandMattie I hope the workman gets back to you today and finishes the job. Why is it that inevitably workman always have to go off for extra this or that, and never seem to have all the necessary tools for the job with them? To be fair , these days there are no doubt so many different sorts of equipment all requiring differing tools to use, that they cannot be expected to have everyone with them. So fingers crossed he turns up with correct bits and pieces and you will finally have decent working radiators installed. Pantglas, glad that normal service has been resumed and hope that the experiment has shown that the old ways are the best.!! GrandmaBatty, that sounded a tough day, hope that now he will feel better about going to nursery and you can have a well earned rest.

Hope everyone has a decent day, and manage to get some job done that has been hanging around for a while.

Morning all from a still dark West Oxfordshire.

I heard yesterday that I’m to have another colonoscopy. This will be my third. Not something to look forward to. During the previous procedures they discovered diverticulitis and polyps.

Not sure about today. Nothing is planned except OH’s shooting club this evening. I have a bit of laundry and ironing to do. I should get into Christmas list making mode, especially the Australian presents and cards.

I need to get in touch with elder son. I may be looking after granddaughter in Kew this weekend while they go to Scotland. I wouldn’t be able to get there until late afternoon as OH and I have an Arts Society Study Day on Friday. It’s a while since I’ve been to Kew as they generally come to me.

Have a good day. Thinking of the FGT2S.

Kalu Tue 11-Nov-25 07:01:59

Good morning all. A dreich wet and windy day is on the cards today for Glasgow.

Normally a day like such would keep me indoors but I need to stock up and make a visit to Waitrose.
My cousin and a neighbour were here for a coffee catch up yesterday, something we are planning to do more of during the winter months especially. Later in the day another neighbour arrived with an invitation to hers for drinks and nibbles with a few neighbours next month.

I feel ready to socialise again and even contemplating a trip to DD2 in Australia next year. I’m mulling it over which is a start.

Best wishes to all for a good day.

Good morning from a very wet East Midlands.

Not much to report here. Feel as I am living in a non-stop nightmare to be honest with DH and DS.

A trip to Australia - how exciting Kalu.
Wishing every one the best day possible.

Good morning from a dull Suffolk after heavy rain yesterday. An early start as I’m taking a friend to the hospital about an hour away for a 9am appointment so must get a move on.

Hope today is a good one for all.

GrannyIvy Tue 11-Nov-25 07:17:13

Good morning from Cambridgeshire. Yesterday was one of those days that I didn’t really do anything for one reason or another. I did manage to sort out our Book/wine club Christmas dinner arrangements and also another festive meet up with family friends DGS2 arrived after school whilst his sister was in dance class and was in a strange mood and quite difficult to entertain for a couple of hours. He was very overtired (courtesy of a daddy weekend again) and DD2 will need to reset him again before the next daddy care days come around. It is ongoing disruption.

Anyway today I have a doctor appointment. I had to join a waiting list and have waited 5 weeks to see a GP for a routine (I hope) problem. My blood tests are on Friday after a wait of 4 weeks. I plan to park a mile away so I get a walk to the surgery and back to my car as I seem to be getting very little exercise these days. The little ones need picking up from school later.

Hoping everyone has a good day

Good morning everyone from Inverness where it’s just getting light and looks cloudy
Sorry to hear you’re feeling a bit low Aldom its understandable after all the build up prior to moving, hopefully you’ll settle in soon with some new and different interests
A busy day ahead, I’ll call into DD2s this morning then off for a quick class at the gym. This afternoon I’m
meeting a group of ladies at the garden centre for coffee and to catch up on everyone’s news.
So good to hear you’re feeling a bit more able to do things Kalu
Thinking of everyone with worries and struggles, hope today is gentle and take care all whatever the day brings 💐

Redcar Tue 11-Nov-25 07:38:22

Good morning everyone from mid Essex, it’s bright at the moment, but slightly damp outside. Yesterday was awful, drizzle all morning, then torrential rain for most of the afternoon. I had a walk in the drizzle, then planted up my amaryllis bulbs. I started to empty some of the boxes in the dining room (deliveries that I hadn’t unpacked) and found some dwarf tulip bulbs so I’ll plant those today as it’s supposed to be less wet! I put other things away and put the boxes in the recycling bins, the room is now a bit tidier.
I have another delivery today, a game for littlest’s third birthday in a few weeks time. I hope my back improves soon, I need to drive to the shops to get inspiration for more things for her.
aldom I hope you feel more settled soon and are able to find some new friends.
grandmabatty I hope your dgs2 is happier to go into nursery this morning, he must feel quite apprehensive about damaging his arm again.
grandmattie hoping that your new storage heater is properly installed today and that the plastering etc will be done soon, also that you don’t have to pay for it.
Is There any news of taichinan? I miss her posts about t’ai chi on the beach.
Thinking of all who are in difficulty for any reason.
Have the best day you can everyone.
