Good morning Mick and all GN's on a dark still morning in North Yorkshire. Fingers crossed that this post will arrive on the thread, after yesterdays infuriating day where I wrote as normal and posted and it disappeared into the ether , never to be seen again!
Today will be a sort of backwards day, as I am going to the funeral of a choir member I sang with for many years. It is going to be up in Swaledale this morning, and as I am not sure if there will be some floods on the road, I shall go extra early, and take my coffee etc with me. If the roads are clear I will just be early, but should have time to find a parking space close to the church, as expecting a large crowd. After the funeral there will be food and drink in the village hall, and I hope to see some old friends there. Then I shall come home and catch up with jobs.
Yesterday it was quite a slow start, as I was definitely creaking my way around, and quite fed up with my disappearing emails. However I plodded along and then went to the local Wickes and bought a new jacket for the hot tank, which I have been meaning to do for ages, but was galvanised by the cost of the electricity into action, and this week I have a project to check things out, make sure the radiators are set right, draught excluders at the ready etc, and anything else I can do to minimise the cost.
In the afternoon went to the Edwardian station event, which was very good and quite popular. Think of The Railway Children era, and that is the kind of set up. Everyone in costume, including a gentleman in a stove hat representing the vicar of the time. It was all done very well, they had an old set of carriages and had crafts in there, for anyone to try if they wished. A lady making lovely fabric flowers on a sewing machine with the wind handle, someone else making lovely decorations and helping children to make their own fairy for the christmas tree. It was the sort of carriage that I travelled in to school, but these days somewhat more difficult to get in and out of the seats. There was the porter of course with the big trolley, and real fires in the waiting rooms. In the ladies waiting room they had a proper old harmonium and Corin and her husband , dressed appropriately were playing and singing carols and I joined them for quite a while and was pleased at how many carols I remembered by heart and all the various tunes we knew and descants etc. Then they had a lady in another room with chestnuts over the fire, which I love . So I enjoyed it very much and thought it was very well done, and was then happy to come home and not do much more, mostly put stuff away, listened to the radio, thought about getting ready for today, but left it for an early start today.
Hope you had a good trip yesterday Mick and that your usual day goes well today. GrandmaBatty hope all goes well on your last early childcare day , and you can look forward to a lie in tomorrow.
Hope today is a good day for everyone and you find time for a few minutes to yourselves to have a little break.
