Specialist fitters seem intent on putting you in a bra that’s too tight round the rib cage. So uncomfortable, especially in summer. I’ve yet to find a comfortable bra, especially with post-menopausal larger breasts. 😡

What is the most comfortable bra you have ever bought?
(89 Posts)Just that really. I’ve just turned 70, and although I always used to dress really smart for work, comfort is my main priority now, as I suffer from very bad back pain, and seldom leave the house now. After a long (and quite expensive) search for comfortable trousers/tops to wear in the house, I finally came across M&S Modal rich pyjama tops and bottoms. They are great to wear as lounge wear, not just PJs? (Wouldn’t wear them outside though) but they actually (in my mind) don’t look like PJs, more like casual lounge wear.
My question is - I need a comfortable bra!! I’ve been wearing Sloggi comfort tops for a while now, but the last couple of bras that I’ve bought haven’t been up to their usual standard. My size hasn’t changed, usually a 36C, but they just don’t seem to fit as they did.
I’ve been looking online for an alternative, but haven’t been able to find one. It has to be non-padded, pull on (i.e. no hooks), giving enough support, and fairly thick straps. Does such a thing exist?
Please share your bra purchase experiences and tell me if you ever found the best fitting, most comfortable bra you ever had. I desperately need to find one! I have purchased many bras online, and have had to send them back (thank you Royal Mail for your pick up service) but I would appreciate any recommendations.
I would be prepared to pay a reasonable price for the perfect fitting comfort bra. I did look at Bravissimo, but their cup sizes are large - think they start at a size D cup?
Can anyone recommend their most comfortable bra?
Thank you.
Online I buy Boody underwear I have bought the bras now in every colour they are pull on thick straps non padded and wash very well. The pants are good too I wouldn’t buy anything else now for comfort
I find Body Bras the most comfortable. I am not large by any means, but could never find a comfortable bra. Now I don't know I am wearing one.
I don't know how I'd ever get my bra up past my hips if I had to step into it!
Bravissimo certainly do supply bras with cup sizes smaller than a D as I shop there and I'm usually a 36B or C.
The option of having a emphatic assistant who will go backwards and forwards letting you try on different bras until you are happy with something, is to me, well worth paying a little bit more for your bra

I’m another one saying get properly measured and not at M&S. I was once measured there around a thick winter jumper. I have larger cup sizes and go to bravissimo. Since using them I can say I’ve never had an uncomfortable bra. I think possibly wearing a too large band size is where most problems stem from
Yes! M+S put me in a 36D, it was agony got remeasured at Bravissimo and now happy in a 34G ,apparently some shops miss sizes and do an add 4 calculation (no idea!)
I have also got a comfy bra from Conturve
Get a JL professional fitting. Explain exactly what type of bra you are looking for, wired, non wired, padded etc,

Do you mean the Body range from M&S?
I used to buy my bras from Bravissimo but they were costing about £40 each. I came across some lovely ones by George at Asda for about £16 for 2. I didn’t expect much TBH but didn’t have time to go into the city to Bravissimo.
They have washed well and are surprisingly comfy and give a nice shape under tops.
It’s good to get a proper fitting - independent lingerie shops are best. M&S notoriously poor. Bras should not be uncomfy and it’s about finding the correct style as well as size. I only ever buy a Panache Tango nowadays - the only bra I’ve ever found comfortable. I’m a larger cup size and very narrow shoulders so straps are always an issue for me with other bras.
Some years ago I went to Rigby & Peller, got measured and bought some of their recommendations, which in my big boobed case was Prima Donna - I buy nothing else now. They are pricey but goodness me the fit and comfort is superb.
Whatever style of bra I wear I can never keep the straps from sliding off my shoulders. I adjust them and make sure the band fits snuggly but down they go again. Any ideas anyone?
I love Fantasie bras. I've worn this brand for many years as they're such a good fit.
Look no further, these are great slip on. The fit is very slightly small, I usually buy 12 but get a 14 in these. Removable pads, and they give you a decent shape, probably less so if you are big, but they have a similar one for F +

Go to the Boob or Bust website for (unbiased) advice about fit - it was a revelation to me.
Always found bras uncomfortable, wide back, small boobs and not much choice in the 38A I thought I needed.
Found comfort, surprisingly with a 32D! No, I didn't believe it either!
Advice there on different styles for different shapes too.
Need to remeasure now I have lost a lot of weight though :-(
My gripe is still that manufacturers of sports bras seem to think that small boobs don't need support.

Phew, I was beginning to think I was the only one in the world to fasten by bra at the front then spin it around.
Have always put my bra on this way.
Never do the fastening at the back like you see in films after the couple have just had sex and need to get back to their respective spouse post haste!

Same here, I put bra’s on this way from being a teenager.Always thought that the way they do it in films was just for the look of it.
With a rotator cuff injury it is impossible to do the recommended "fasten at the front and swivel the bra round" with the one hand/arm that has normal movement. My injured shoulder was extremely painful and almost completely restricted all that arm's movements.
My Gemma front fastening bras from Amazon are recommended for post surgery and give me great relief and comfort. Putting the bra on is a bit like putting on a coat with the injured arm going on first with little movement needed, which made it relatively easy. The shoulder straps are wider and a little padded and the cups are easy to move to accommodate the contents.
Even though my injury has now improved, it is unlikely to recover to full movement so I am glad to have found this solution and recommend anyone suffering from similar injuries to try them.
I had an M&S so-called expert bra fitter measure me with a knot in her tape measure.

I was friends with a lady who had worked at M&S for years.
She said bra fitting was one of the worst jobs, she preferred working in the cafe.

I agree with you Big Bloomers pull on bras are fabulous. I found wired bras too uncomfortable after reconstruction surgery following mastectomies for breast cancer . Big bloomers bras are the only onese I will wear now . Their seamless knickers are also the most comfortable I've ever worn .
Wyllow3 I have recently purchased a Flexifit crop top, I’m wearing it today and so far it’s very comfortable. Easy to step into and pull on. I agree with you about the sizing, I wear size 14 dresses and trousers, but after looking at the bra measurements online I bought the size 16 GG-H and it’s perfect.
I wear older ones at night. So comfy. I have for a very very long time worn a very lightweight version of same - 10 years? and I haven't drooped too much at all, but am only a B.
I’ve never had a comfortable bra. I regard them as the same as Victorian corsets - designed to torture women for the pleasure of men.

I go to bravissimo for my bras . They have an excellent range of styles and options. It might be worth looking in there . I found that I was wearing the completely the wrong size.
