Good morning Mick and following folk, it’s a damp start here in south Glos, yesterday’s afternoon sunshine was very welcome and felt warm on my face.
Housework was started and then halted when a friend asked if I’d like to go to town with her, obviously I said yes! We spent a very pleasant couple of hours wandering around and had a coffee and cake so a lovely interlude to the day. Housework will resume today no doubt.
I hope today goes well for you all 🌹

Good morning Mick, Roses and all who follow from another dry and dark morning where the Yorkshire Gold is brewing 😋.

It seems some contretemps have occurred in my absence and, like others, I do hope a breather is just what folks need before a return to normal joviality and bizziness - both of you 😘

Sad times sorting for Gingster but if my experience with Mi Casa is anything to go by these things seem to have a timing all of their own - given how busy I am now with Dad and PG Towers staff health issues, I’m happy not to have another property to worry about.

Lovely to see Blossoming’s pics each morning- keep them coming! Hope the marmalade making went well Melanie - haven’t bothered since I was in 🇪🇸 where I had friends forcing their Seville oranges on me…😉

I shall trot off shortly for my therapy walk for a newspaper ready for a mad 4 hour free electric washing/drying/cooking and baking stint🥵

Good morning from Malta where a dry day is forecast with a high of 16°C. I think we are in for a wet, windy week ahead so will enjoy the clement weather while it lasts.

Had a lovely morning out with DD3 and the boys yesterday. We went to a huge shopping mall in the south of the island where there is a play place with trampolines. (I didn’t know it existed!)

The boys and DD3 bounced happily for an hour whilst I enjoyed a coffee in the cafe where I had a good view of them all. It looked fun but my trampolining days are over I’m afraid!
We had a look round the shops and I sat with the boys while DD3 bought herself some new sweaters.

It seems I’m back to awful broken sleep again after a blissful couple of weeks of sleeping through the night. I’ve no idea why as I don’t need the loo and go back to sleep eventually.

The tennis has started in Australia and I will be watching later this morning when Alcaraz starts his bid for the trophy.

The cat Winston is back for another week so I am very happy! I do love him, he has the loveliest nature.

Hoping you all have a good day .☀️

Good morning Mick and all

It is currently 6° with rain forecast imminently ☔️

It’s an at house day for me, will start a new book on my Kindle and probably watch something gentle on the TV.

Roast chicken for dinner tonight, as it’s just the two of us the preparation will not take long.

Sending healing (((hugs))) to those with worries and illnesses 🙋‍♀️

Morning Mick, morning All from a damp looking corner of Somerset. We’re in for a wet day if the forecast is right.

Other than a torrential downpour on a motorway we saw no rain yesterday. It was good to see our grandchildren happy together, with a ten year gap between the oldest and youngest they get along remarkably well. Going our separate ways we wandered the nearby Outlet and were successful in finding most items on our list before wending our way home.

With luck Mr C can unstick our jammed wardrobe doors this morning, if unsuccessful there will be no change of our outer clothes for a while! Nothing else of note on the agenda.

Best wishes to everyone and a hope Sunday is gentle with us all.

Good morning from a dark, mild, serene Cornwall.

After two bus rides and two train rides I ended up in an almost deserted Mousehole yesterday where I saw a plaque in the already aptly named Grenfell Street dedicated to the fire. Poignant. Three very small children, one completely naked and not at all cold, were digging in the sand where a rivulet runs down the beach, watched by their dad in coat, hat and gloves. 😊 A timeless scene. En route, Penzance was as usual quirky and busy and Newlyn colourful and fishy (photo attached). Constantly in the background was the poor denuded St Michael's Mount lacking its almost 100 trees from the storm.

The weather was beautiful, with one shower, so a double rainbow crowned the day as I got off the final train.

On the way home I called in at my favourite charity shop for a cuppa and to buy knitting wool plus a pink door plaque I didn't know I needed, stating 'The mermaid IS in' which will amuse my neighbour. And me.

Today I plan to sort my downstairs workroom in case I should decide to become a metalworker/jeweller. 😜 It needs sorting whatever I decide is my future career ha ha and with the downstairs beauty salons closed on a Sunday I can clatter around as much as I need to.

Good morning from Sheffield

I was hoping for a lovely bright sunny day. I want to go into the Peak District for a long winter walk, but it’s going to be a bit dreary so it’s not quite the same .
We once did such a walk and got caught in a downpour. We ended sheltering beside a dry stone wall with several
bemused sheep who had the same idea.
Every item of clothing I had on was soaked through.

That was a miserable walk although we laugh about it now .
I think we will stay local. We do have some nice walk around here.

Take care everyone flowers

Good morning from s somerset, grey skies and rain all day here

The allotment is calling me and I have some jobs to do but the weather is key and I won`t be going on this cold dark and soggy day. I want to divide strawberries and put some into the asparagus bed.

A very good sleep last night and I am ready to get going today, my first task must be that skirt, I am so close to finishing it and only then can I put my sewing room to sleep for the coming months

Have a good day

Good morning.
A hug of 9c and sunny intervals forecast here in N. Bucks.
I’m off to meet up with my scrapbooking friends for the day. I hope my usual country route is not flooded or I’ll have to use the boring main roads.
DH has a sink to unblock for his entertainment. His reward will be a steak and roast veg dinner.
Hope your day is a good one with a smile along the way.

ginny Sun 18-Jan-26 07:28:16

A high of 9c not a hug but you can have one if you like.

karmalady Sun 18-Jan-26 07:34:33

Ginny I had a period of scrapbooking in the past and made 4 beautiful scrapbooks, in process I managed to use lots of old family photos. My AC now have one each and kept the 4th one. It was a fantastic hobby with the most wonderful outcome

Good morning everyone from mid Essex. It’s cloudy at the moment but I think a dry day is forecast. Yesterday was bright in the morning, so I went for my usual walk. Then I changed the bedclothes and did quite a lot of ironing.
DD2 came to see me, bringing littlest with her. I found an old small keyboard in the cupboard, which entertained her for some time. It has some pre programmed tunes so we had Jingle Bells on repeat for a while!
I need to clean the kitchen this morning, but will try and get a walk first.
marzipan what a lovely day for you yesterday, I’m so envious that you have so many delightful villages and towns close by. I remember going to St Ives for the first time (in the late 1950s), we drove in one side, dad decided there was too much traffic and too many people, so drove straight out again! He didn’t like driving much and it was just too busy for him - goodness knows what he’d think now! Thank you for the photo. St Michael’s Mount must look quite strange and sad without its trees.
bellasnana enjoy Winston this week!

Have the best day possible everyone, whatever you’re doing and whatever the weather.

Greyduster Sun 18-Jan-26 07:44:09

Good morning, Michael and all GNs from South Yorkshire where at present you cannot see your hand in front of your face and I keep expecting to see the hound of the Baskervilles come running down the road! Melanie I enjoyed those long winter walks in the Peak District too - we are lucky to live where we do. And Marzipan your tour of Cornwall reminded of me of the first time I ever went there with a friend in 1965 and visited those places. It would be years before I would get to visit it again, but that first time in Cornwall was magical.

Yesterday was food shopping and then repotting a couple of cacti that took me longer than I imagined. I thought it would only take two pots but it ended up taking four. The compost I got from the garden centre was unlike any I used to use when I have raised cacti in the past. It is, of course, “peat free” now rather than fine and gritty, and doesn’t look as if it will drain properly but we’ll see.

Today will be a sedentary one indoors. I have things I must turn my attention to that will keep me busy.

Have the best day you can folks.

Good morning from Shropshire.Raining and forecast to continue all day.

A lovely day yesterday.DGD enjoyed her time alone with us, H said the party was ok.He was very anxious about going for some reason even though DD was staying with him.

Like Pantglas we have four hours of free electricity this morning so I am on the starting blocks ready to get the first load of laundry going.

Thinking of our mountaineers and our absent friends💐

Wishing everyone the best day possible🦩💐

Susan56 Sun 18-Jan-26 07:49:06

Melanie, DD2, SIL and DGS enjoyed a lovely walk in the Peak District yesterday. The photos make me want to go to.

I love hearing about your adventures Marzipan.Your adventure yesterday has me looking forward to our holiday in Cornwall later in the year.

kittylester Sun 18-Jan-26 07:52:44

Good morning all from a dark, damp and not terribly warm North Leicestershire.

We had a lovely day yesterday. DD3 and her 3 came to see us (and give us huge hugs) and we caught up with all their news.

Today DH is going to watch DGS4 play football as it is his first game back after breaking his collar bone in a match in November. It is also his 14th birthday.

I am not really quite up to standing and watching a football match so will stay at home and do the lunch.

Have the best day possible everyone.

EkwaNimitee Sun 18-Jan-26 07:52:53

Good morning Mick and everyone from dry Carlisle.
I went out early yesterday in the rain which soon stopped and we subsequently had a pleasant, largely sunny day. I got the weekend papers, did some reading of them and my book but much is left for today.
I had a long phone chat with my sister and spent quite a bit of time sorting out my printer which needed a new part installing and yet more ink. I thought it was a gonner at one point but my wrestling about had merely pulled out the power plug!
I shall go out for a walk shortly and hope that will sharpen me up, I woke in the night with a migraine and had to go down for paracetamol after which I finally got back to sleep again.

I may do a little housework and/or baking later but mainly, I intend to do some reading.

Have a good day all of you if possible.

brook2704 Sun 18-Jan-26 07:57:40

Good morning everyone from DD1s in Cambridge, it’s just light and I think I heard overnight rain
The house is still very quiet, I’m thinking about going down to the kitchen to make a cuppa but don’t want to wake everyone up. My bedroom here is on the top floor, there’s 2 flights of stairs down to the kitchen and then back up again. Living in a bungalow at home I’m not used to that but it definitely does me good! Not sure what our plans are yet today but I’m sure we’ll be off out somewhere
Your day yesterday sounds idyllic Marzipan how lovely for you and well done in making the effort to get out and about. I hope you enjoy your walk today Melanie even though the weather forecast isn't the best
Thanks for the hug ginny
Thinking of everyone with worries and struggles, hope today is gentle and take care all whatever the day brings 💐

Grandmabatty Sun 18-Jan-26 07:58:39

Good morning all from Polmont where it's currently 2° and looks damp. Still quite dark out. Bellasnana enjoy cuddles with Winston. Marzipan that's a lovely photo.
Yesterday I met my friend for breakfast and we had a good blether. Then dd, dsil and the boys arrived. Dgs1 is being very cuddly just now. I love it! I drove my friend home and then did some housework. I was glad I had finished the washing because dd arrived with two big bags of clothes. Her heating had broken and she had no hot water either. I started drying her stuff yesterday but I have more to do today. No free electricity for me Susan !
Today is a quiet day for me. I have steak casserole to make and beef olives to cook too. Then some pottering. Have a good day all.

luluaugust Sun 18-Jan-26 07:58:40

Good morning from W Kent where we have a thick mist off the river.
Quiet Sunday, usual chat to DB and a casserole to cook. I also have a book on the go, not sure we will go out for a newspaper.
Best wishes

Good Morning everyone from a brightening south coast. So pleased the days are noticeably lengthening now.

Nothing much on the cards today other than household chores but I want go through the new repertoire for the choir concert in June. Some pieces we have done before but there are, as always, some new ones and I like to be familiar with them before we start to rehearse them.

Family phone calls to make /receive too and another Sunday passes ready to face the week. Peacefully we hope.

Kind thoughts of all who are upset or hurting in any way.

madeleine45 Sun 18-Jan-26 08:09:04

Good morning Mick and all GN's from a dark, still, cold morning in North Yorkshire. I have finally struggled up and am trying to get myself sorted. Had a horrible night, with fever, endless coughing and very little sleep. Was thinking of getting up about 5am when must have fallen asleep, thank goodness, and so now have rather staggered up, but taking things very gently.

These are the days when you find it hard living alone. When my husband was alive , of course we were there for each other, and fortunately apart from a couple of flu times, we rarely were ill at the same time. So , whoever was ok would look after the other one. That also applied to things like difficulty getting up or putting socks on , getting medicines ,and we all have to develop our strategies to cope on our own, but at least we can stagger back to bed when we need to.

Yesterday wasnt a very good day either. I wasnt feeling too great in the morning, but got myself sorted and ready and out on the yellow peril to go to the market. Didnt need a lot but fresh bread and the yorkshire post were the top of the list. It was a very cold and damp morning and naturally began to rain lightly when I was the furthest from home or shelter! I had thought I might go for a coffee, but began to feel very chilled and coughing so gave up on that idea, and came home asap. I got the buggy covered up and charging and was glad to get in, make a much needed coffee and read the paper.

I though that I would get some jobs done , but I didnt feel well and it wasnt a case of deciding not to do anything, more a case of just sitting there with a blanket round me and a drink . I watched a little racing and a lot more of the snooker. I wanted John Higgins to win, and was pleased he did, after quite a tough match. He is apparently the oldest person to win the triple crown. A great example to show them that we can all still do well, and getting older does not mean being past it!! (Mind you I think he is only 50, a mere youngster!)

Then eventually roused myself to put away shopping and made a curry, but very simply , with good mince and lots of veg and a jar of curry sauce rather than my making it up myself. A 2 minute rice to do in the microwave was added and that was curry made on a bad day! It was very tasty and at least I had something savoury to eat rather than bits and pieces. After such efforts I retired to bed.

Today I shall eventually, when I feel up to it go for a shower, grateful for my seat in the shower today, and then make no plans at all, but be guided by how I feel. Have my sunday radio to enjoy with DID and private passions to listen to. Probably a vain hope, but might have a decent play to listen to. Hopefully by tomorrow I might feel more myself.

I am going to come back and read all the posts a bit later, but hope that everyone is ok and will have a good day today

hollysteers Sun 18-Jan-26 08:09:06

Good morning from a dark damp northwest coast.
My coach trip to the Trafford Centre was cancelled yesterday due to cancellations and low numbers, so today I am going to the Lake District with the same company, sandwiches and coffee made.

Yesterday I made smoothies with apples from the garden and painted cards for upcoming birthdays. I was pleased in the evening, to find some old Dorothy L.Sayers dramatisations on YouTube which will keep me going for a bit. Had a FaceTime with flying DD in the south, back from Geneva and now off to San Francisco.
Hope yo hear from Grandmattie soon and thoughts to all🌺

Grandmabatty Sun 18-Jan-26 08:15:23

Madeleine I hope you feel better soon.
