I feel all this disgusting news that surrounds ‘ Epstein’ has eroded my faith in government..all the lies and scandals

The shame that had been put upon King Charles it’s such an embarrassment for Britain and when does it stop?

Oreo Thu 05-Feb-26 15:19:56

The post of Ambassador to the US isn’t usually given to a ‘has been’ politician but to a top civil servant.
I can’t remember her name but the woman appointed to that position was by all accounts very good in the job but was replaced by Mandelson.

Will look out for Marina Hyde's article, thanks Susieq62.

King Charles isn’t snowy white either. He wanted to be a tampon. There’s a saying all power corrupt and absolute power corrupts absolutely. It does make you lose faith.

I don't think King Charles (or anyone really) disgusting adultery with another adult can be conflated to sex trafficking the underaged.

This from one who disapproves sex before & outside marriage. Biblical.

NOT the same at all.

Iam64 Thu 05-Feb-26 15:54:11

I agree Norah, absolutely no comparison between a tapped phone call between consenting adults and organised sexual abuse and financial crimes

The very experienced Dame Karen Pierce, a career diplomat.

Ambassadors, like Civil Servants, are supposed to be impartial
and serve whichever Government is in power.

Allira Thu 05-Feb-26 16:11:15

but was replaced by Mandelson.

Her term as Ambassador had come to an end but she did stay on longer than she needed to.
There was an interim Ambassador, as far as I remember, before Mandelson.

Agreed, totally different, Norah.

It says more about those investigating and publishing private, intimate messages too.

It shows a lack of judgement that Starmer even considered Mandelson for US ambassador. He was sacked twice previously to any of the Epstein association became common knowledge.

mae13 Thu 05-Feb-26 17:28:43

Starmer 'apologising' for being taken in by Mandelson's lies is very, very unconvincing.
Surely all the raised eyebrows and background whispering when he appointed Mandelson as ambassandor to the USA should have rung alarm bells?
But I think Starmer must have known at least SOMETHING well before he gave Mandelson the appointment.

The British public have been assumed to be village idiots and treated with contempt by a weak - and yet arrogant - PM.

His position is untenable.

Bea65 Thu 05-Feb-26 17:31:20

mae13 agree its untenable but who should replace him???
Have no faith in any of them ...so utterly utterly depressing

To his beloved no more than your husband was to you

eazybee Thu 05-Feb-26 18:09:15

That speech this morning was appalling. Apologising for men in power who deceived him with their lies. And he a barrister.

How is this relevant to this discussion? Someone committing adultery with someone of full age is a million miles away from someone who deliberately seeks out vulnerable under age girls and traffics them for sex.

Absolutely. The King must be mortified by the actions of his brother. To heckle him whilst out and about, typical mob behaviour.

Agree with everythingmae13 says.

As to your question Bea65 as to who should replace him - anyone could, he isn't irreplaceable. He's a disgrace and shouldn't be holding office.

Sadly we have had a long line (in recent years) of PM’s of both parties who have treated the British public with nothing but contempt and have assumed that we are all morons. I’m thinking of Boris and the parties at Downing Street during covid as well as Starmer and his antics around this issue as well asTony Blair and Iraq Liz Truss and that disaster budget. I could go on.

Welcome Basgetti 😀 to GN and confirming your credentials - although you didn’t need to…there are some very fiery GNs on here and TBH, NO-one really knows the person behind the comments on here…

Thank you 😊

Epstein and Nigel Farage have been seen together some time ago

There was a picture circulating recently, which was obviously AI, so I’d doubt Farage ever met Epstein.

mum2three Fri 06-Feb-26 05:41:50

It is sad that people in high office have such poor standards and lack of morals. However, you only have to study history to see that this is nothing new. At least we can get rid of the Prime Minister, unlike when the country had a serving monarch.

nanna8 Fri 06-Feb-26 05:46:04

Do you think those standing as politicians are actually worse morally than they used to be or is it just that we find out more about them these days through social media etc ? I suspect they were always pretty self seeking , we just didn’t hear about it. Pre tv you couldn’t see them much and just relied on out of date newspapers. We looked on them as people to reect and admire. I really can’t think of a single one I admire these days, Labour, Liberal or how’s your father.

Er..... daft "sexy talk" between a bloke and his girlfriend (at the time) about being her tampon are hardly on a par with Epsteins behaviour!!

nanna8 Fri 06-Feb-26 05:46:35

Reect=respect

eazybee Fri 06-Feb-26 06:42:29

I think far more is revealed via investigative journalism and social media today about prominent people than ever in the past, although the wealthy were surrounded by servants who saw everything and could be bribed to reveal it.
Then there is silly Harry wasting millions fighting trivia, driven by a money-obsessed wife just like Auntie Fergie.

StoneofDestiny Fri 06-Feb-26 08:15:57

The whole royal family and police and palace security involvement in the Epstein affair needs fully investigated.
It’s always been clear Andrew travelled with police protection officers and they would have known exactly who he was associating with and when. Palace security and the police would also have known who he was inviting to stay at royal palaces. That means the royal family knew - the former Queen and Prince Charles.
Pretty clear why the former Queen paid the £12 million to keep Andrew out of court. The whole affair needs ripping wide open and the police brought before an inquiry to testify just what went on.
