The Met never cease to amaze

Just when we are all disturbed by groups of kids running amok in Clapham, Met officees leave a bag of weapons including a sub machine gun and ammo on the pavement outside Sir Sadiq's house.
How lucky a group of youngsters didnt find it first before a memeer of the public who called the police. Talk about leaving a suspicious parcel unattended which we are reminded about constantly on the train!

Where is the source for this?

Primrose53 Sat 04-Apr-26 10:05:12

TV says it is reported in The Sun.

Wyllow3 Sat 04-Apr-26 10:07:49

Initially, the Sun and the Telegraph.

Later confirmed in less dramatic terms, it was apparently for 7 minutes before a member of the public found it, investigation underway etc etc 5 police suspended while investigated.

Here is the BBC with a reasonable report of the facts

www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cjd8y33ze08o

obvs serious and never to have happened, appalling errorbut not as far as I'm concerned meriting the kind of shock horror headlines until we actually know more details.

keepingquiet Sat 04-Apr-26 10:10:21

Thankyou for clearing that up with some facts! The fact that five policemen were suspended makes me feel better- when the factual story comes out we will find out why. It seems like a deliberate act to me, but I'll wait and see.

GrannyGravy13 Sat 04-Apr-26 10:11:03

Wyllow3 I saw this on the BBC News this morning, those reporting were definitely shocked and The Mayor is I imagine horrified!

TerriBull Sat 04-Apr-26 10:17:47

Shocking! particularly in an unrelated event a young teenage boy has actually been shot in London, three people arrested.

HelterSkelter1 Sat 04-Apr-26 10:33:45

The 7 minutes quoted seems to be the length of time the Met took to arrive after being alerted by a member of the public. The bag could, have been there for some time.

At least they turned up which they don't do for a burglary.

GrannyGravy13 Sat 04-Apr-26 10:44:02

There is no information on how long the hold-all was left unattended in the street.

It took 7 minutes for the police to arrive once the man whose partner found the bag rang them.

(Picture’s he took of the bag and its contents)

Yes, it is shocking. Imagine what might have happened had that been found by people who decided to use them anywhere. Just as well they were found by someone with a sense of responsibility.

It is serious enough for five police officers to be suspended.

There is no way that this can be reported as less shocking.

MartavTaurus Sat 04-Apr-26 11:59:46

I'm speechless. 😲

No, the BBC has reported what the Metropolitan Police said about the incident and they are obviously trying to downplay it.
The report then goes on to say what the member of the public said who found the cache of weapons, which was that the attending officers were really shocked.

There should be no downplaying of this incident, it is extremely serious.

Agree with this. It should not be downplayed and is extremely serious. How should it have been reported then?

keepingquiet Sat 04-Apr-26 12:41:27

With the fullest of details as possible. OP didn't say four Met policemen had been suspended and merely said the bag had been found at Khan's house.

Well, it was obviously in place where a member of the public found it, not inside the house.

Why downplay it, I wonder?

keepingquiet Sat 04-Apr-26 12:53:22

I don't think it is being downplayed. The report was clear that any danger posed is now over. Yes, I have re-read OP and she said it was on the pavement outside Khan's house- directly outside or nearby?
The policemen responsible are being investigated and I suspect maybe some, all or none will be charged and we will find out.

What inference are we to derive from this? That the met have some reckless and downright dangerous police officers?

All the rest is inflammatory speculation.

Allira Sat 04-Apr-26 12:59:02

Of course it's not shocking. I'm sure it happens frequently. 🤔 We mustn't sensationalise the fact that a sub-machine gun, a Glock pistol, taser plus ammunition was left lying around for anyone to pick up. It's those newspapers, innit, making something out of nothing.
🤔

Galaxy Sat 04-Apr-26 13:02:35

Oh come on we have all done it. I left my guns in Tesco the other day. I had such a giggle with the security when I went back to retrieve them.

It is shocking- no one with any sense of social responsibilty wouldn't be shocked at yet more evidence that the met are corrupt.

No need for sarcasm.

Allira Sat 04-Apr-26 13:11:04

Why?

AGAA4 Sat 04-Apr-26 13:31:24

Were they deliberately left? Or a mistake. Appalling either way but I'd prefer some more facts before judging.

Corrupt or worryingly incompetent?

Cossy Sat 04-Apr-26 13:37:08

I read this story, it was completely irresponsible.

Hope people are disciplined and a lot more careful moving forward
