Are you irritating in RL? (light hearted)

I notice I have started to say "Wow", more or less every time somebody tells me something.

" My daughter works in London" Wow, really?
"I've done 2 Pilates classes this week" Wow, amazing

This must be very irritating for others.

I would say great or that's really good with a smile. Can't stand yippee, amazing and fantastic. Sound really false

As a grunty, sulky, moody teenager. I would say."Like yeah. And so what?" And then snort and roll my eyes in boredom. No matter what people said.

I could be very difficult.

So some of us do improve with age

I really find it irritating when people start a sentence with ‘don’t take this the wrong way but…’
As for saying irritating things myself I often catch myself saying sorry all the time when other people barge past me or bump into me. I really need to stop seeing as the bargers and bumpers who should say sorry hardly ever do.

Oh yes, the word wow appears far too much in my conversations these days. I think we are constantly bombarded with new phrases and words so that we adopt them without realising. If I try to stop myself and use a different response I end up muddling the words and sound ridiculous grin

Mojack26 Thu 07-May-26 14:51:26

What is RL? Yes it would be irritating...

🤣

missdeke Thu 07-May-26 14:54:39

I'm still trying to work out what RL means confused.

Maremia Thu 07-May-26 15:03:24

Could it be real life, as opposed to online?

Real Life, get down with the kids ( I have now irritated myself)

MissAdventure Thu 07-May-26 15:21:35

[grin
You do you.

DrWatson Thu 07-May-26 15:42:21

Well, probably, most folk have some sort of irritating speech or mannerisms? What I find REALLY irritating is people using silly acronyms, like "RL"!!

After all, how many of us play Rugby League at our sort of age . . . .

[You'll gather I don't spend much of my day texting so don't need silly shortcuts to stop my thumbs getting arthritis even earlier?!]

Magenta8 Thu 07-May-26 15:53:36

My family were unanimous in saying YES I am irritating in RL.
(Probably online too)

MissAdventure Thu 07-May-26 15:56:12

I'm deaf as a post, it irritates me, so i don't know how ny grandson puts up with it.
He has to repeat himself 5 or 6 times.

Dylis Thu 07-May-26 16:05:20

I say "exactly" far too often when agreeing with someone. Also say "blimey" which I never hear anyone ever saying.

Okdokey08 Thu 07-May-26 16:08:47

I wouldn’t worry too much about the “WOW”.. as it would be used a bit more often if we got chatting. I’m actually swearing a bit more.. oops! Not a lot, but not something I did before (hope it’s not onset of anything) anyway.. I also have a habit of saying “Okdokey” but it sort of went wrong when I finished texting someone and the prescriptive text changed it to “ok donkey” … I hadn’t noticed it before.. do I don’t know how many people I actually ended texts with this format… perhaps just the ones I have t heard back from oops!

maxmyers Thu 07-May-26 16:11:12

I’m sure I must be very irritating, but not sure what I do- I’ll have to ask my family.
I find it very irritating when people - usually young waiting staff in restaurants say “ perfect” when you tell them what you want to order.

hollysteers Thu 07-May-26 16:14:36

Well! and even “Crumbs!”😁

JamesandJon33 Thu 07-May-26 16:17:17

I worked with someone who always shouted’ Horlicks’.

Plevey08 Thu 07-May-26 16:44:33

Ta for that MissAdventure. I have always been able to talk backwards very quickly. It really irritates me as I do it constantly in my mind. GC enjoy it as they're always asking me to say things backwards. I haven't introduced them to krap raC yet🤣 Probably a nervous tic or something. Can get away with swearing though as I've gone before they work it out.

MissAdventure Thu 07-May-26 16:50:09

Thats blooming clever!!!
Backwards!
