Are you irritating in RL? (light hearted)

I notice I have started to say "Wow", more or less every time somebody tells me something.

" My daughter works in London" Wow, really?
"I've done 2 Pilates classes this week" Wow, amazing

This must be very irritating for others.

I think Awesome has left the building.

Has anyone watched the house buying programme in the afternoons 'A New House in the Country'? As they enter each room they announce 'wow'.

Nanny27 Thu 07-May-26 17:10:31

My DH says we’re all behind the times. The word to use now is AMAZING 🤩

Or 'Amazeballs' 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Utterly ridiculous

I must be irritating to others, as I even irritate myself sometimes…

crazyH Thu 07-May-26 17:21:43

My little granddaughter uses the word ‘slay’ in texts - I don’t know what it means - I guess it means ‘good’, thumbs up, etc. Has anyone else heard that expression ?

MissAdventure Thu 07-May-26 17:40:57

Yes, it means erm... if you do something well, for example, you slay it.

Calendargirl Thu 07-May-26 17:43:20

Crikey.

Goodness.

Blimey.

No, I don’t say ‘wow’ much.

GardenofEngland Thu 07-May-26 19:45:53

The news always portrays how front line people are abused..Never address the rudeness of some of these people.

singingnutty Thu 07-May-26 20:26:04

Probably mostly 'yeah' with the meaning of agree and continue and also 'Ah-ha' and 'Mmm'.

Elrel Thu 07-May-26 20:42:15

Feedback from close relatives over recent years is that I am very irritating. The worst aspect is that some think it is deliberate. I forget things and answer ‘I don’t know’ to too many questions, especially if their question was ‘What did you just do on your phone/iPad before that happened?” My irritating answer is often ‘I pressed something…’

dayvidg Thu 07-May-26 20:46:42

'Fairy snuff' is my go to

LonnBestemor Thu 07-May-26 21:19:27

yes, but with insight! smile

Mollygo Thu 07-May-26 21:28:07

Evidently I breathe tunes when I’m working, or thinking or even driving which is very irritating for DH and I overuse absolutely or absolutely not!
DGD asked me why I said that so I said it stops me from swearing.

crazyH Thu 07-May-26 21:35:40

Thanks MissA 👍

Azalea99 Thu 07-May-26 21:49:26

I do “wow” every now and then, but what really annoys DS1 is that I frequently say “Oh Lor’”. Seems harmless to me, so maybe it’s not me to blame but the younger generation?

I think I irritate some people with my opinions so I must try not to mention them. I don't like people who seem to think that all Disabled PIP or Universal Credit claimants are frauds. No empathy for those through no fault of their own are unable to work enough hours to pay their full way. Also no empathy for those who are not as intelligent as they are so are not able to earn as much money so need some help from UC. Not all benefit claimants are frauds. There its off my chest now so maybe I'll try hard to not mentioned it again especially in RL.

boheminan

'Blimey' and 'Hey Ho'! person here and I find it irritating when anyone says 'Ah Bless'! to me - feels patronising.

Yes, it does feel very patronising!
("Oh you poor OLD dear!"!)

I would say great or that's really good with a smile. Can't stand yippee, amazing and fantastic. Sound really false

As a grunty, sulky, moody teenager. I would say."Like yeah. And so what?" And then snort and roll my eyes in boredom. No matter what people said.

I could be very difficult.

So some of us do improve with age

Cabbie21 I know another! Is it loneliness that drives people to talk and not be able to reciprocate as in a normal conversation?

TheWeirdoAgain60 Mon 11-May-26 10:58:15

I was in bed last night about 7:30, bedroom window wide open, listening to the birdies nattering away and I noticed, again, they say ''wow'' a lot in their own languages!

That's fair!

Wow!

Graham!

Oooeee!

Wow!

Yes/no!

Wow!

Over there!

My late great cat, who passed over the Rainbow Bridge 9 months ago, was great for saying WOW in an incredibly human-like voice! She always creased me up laughing when she said it!

Boadicea Mon 11-May-26 11:11:24

Of course, that's me being irritated rather than irritating!

eddiecat78 Mon 11-May-26 13:46:31

I have started jumping in to finish what OH is saying. I HAVE to stop this because his mother did it a lot and she was a very irritating woman
