What colour car do you have or did you used to drive?

I've got a tacky white Fiat 500, I don't care it goes, that's all I ask of it. Previous cars, a rather nice dark sort of bottle green, metallic, another white, navy blue and black. That's all I can remember. I like red, but I read they can induce anger

My first car was a creamy Citroën Dyane and my favourite car since then has been a Peugeot 505 (also known as the battleship) Our current cars are a lovely red Mazda and a white (!!!) Toyota.

DH had British Racing Green MGB when I met him. That could have been part of the attraction.

Maybe I didn't make it very clear - while I personally wouldn't have a white car, I didn't mean that ALL white cars are tacky, just white Range Rovers! I don't mind Range Rovers in other colours either, for the record.

I drive a green Mini Paceman, it’s nine years old Prior to that it was a yellow mini. Before there were many yellow cars it made it easy to spot in a car park and it didn’t show the muck. My present mini I had coated with something to repel water and it’s fantastic The muck still doesnt stick to it I think I have only washed it once. The rain washes it I don’t think that it’s quite as good as it used to be.

I am looking to replace my car with something smaller and I came across a Japanese import garage that has a car called a Suzuki Hustler. It is designed for city use and is a mini SUV, very mini as it has only 2 seats in the rear. The one that caught my eye is bright pink with a white roof. I am very tempted as my last 2 cars have been white and grey.

Ours was red. I don't understand why so many people have black cars - they are much more difficult to see in poor light and also they show the dust and dirt a lot (for those who spend time keeping their car clean ).

I remember that it was useful while teaching the DC their colours to walk past parked cars in the street as there were so many different colours, but now it seems to be mostly black, grey, white and red .

My first car was a red Vauxhall Viva and I loved it!🚘 Since then I've had bronze, black, grey, blue, wine, silver , red and red.🚘 I do like a red car, it's cheery.

Totally agree. I drive a white BMW and apart from having to wash it a bit more often than almost any other colour car I love it.

I wish DH had a white Range Rover (beautiful cars) but he drives a boring old grey Mercedes. We are definitely not a tacky family😁

If you'd read my follow-up post, you'd see that I did clarify that I don't find all white cars tacky, although I wouldn't have one myself. That's just personal preference. As a former motoring writer, I've driven very many makes and models of cars in a whole spectrum of colours, but I'm just not a fan of white cars in general. And I do love Range Rovers - but again, not white ones.

When my granddaughter was asked what sort of car she wanted she said not red. They are so lucky ,these kids. They get bought a car each when they turn 18. We never dreamt of anything like that, just totally out of the question. Different times.

You speak for yourself Nana8 your grandkids might have all been bought their cars, but mine (7) have all had to buy their own cars

My first was dark green, but all others since have been silver, which is a good colour for not showing the dirt.

But why is a white Range Rover tacky, and do they drive any differently to other colours of Range Rovers? Don't have one myself, never had a Range Rover.
As I've never had a brand new car I have to mostly take the colour the make and model I want at a price I can afford comes in. Present car is silver, had a silver metro many, many years ago and loved that car, so zippy. Oh and a gorgeous primrose yellow Cavalier that could turn on a sixpence. In between there's been various blues, red, green, gold, maroon, graphite. My dream car would be a racing green Morgan.

Maybe it's the people who seem to drive them, Rosie51 - round here it's all the ones who have to be seen to outdo one another in their houses, their cars, everything. It's invariably women on the school run with their trout pout lips and massive eyelashes too.

I’ve had cars in most colours and currently drive a bright king-fisher blue Mini convertible. I once had a very sporty Lancia in red and I still think red is best for Italian cars, especially Ferrari and I’ll never get one of those.
A British racing green Morgan wouldn’t go amiss here Rosie.

Our car is a lovely shade of blue. So was the previous one. Between us, my husband and I have had black, silver, maroon, white, grey and mustard. I'd like a red one.

Our car is shiny battleship grey. We’ve had red, black, dark blue and metallic blue.

My favourite was a Renault Clio I misheard the colour the salesman said as psycho blue and that suited me down to the ground.

My grandad bought me my first car (Mini). It was secondhand but I loved it. I hope I told him how grateful I was...
He only had 2 grandkids, he didn't buy my brother a car but brother was working, I was first in family to go to Uni.

Our current car is pearl grey and I wouldn't have chosen it, DH ordered it in my absence! We've had blue, green, black and silver cars in the past.
My first car was a red Renault 5 and I loved it.

We have an all singing, all dancing, smart dark blue convertible Mercedes. We had some lovely cars over the years, but my all time favourite was my first car, a green Mini with cream roof, you had to pull the choke out, lights were operated by a flick switch, the high beam was operated by pressing your foot on a pedal near the clutch. The gear stick was a ball on a long stick and the water from deep puddles would come up through the gear stick!! You opened the doors with a plastic cord hanging in the doors and the windows slid side to side (with a wiggle 😂.) I drove that little car every day, around town, with either my mum or boyfriend (now husband of 40 years) beside me. As well as weekly professional lessons, the regular driving gave me the experience and confidence to pass my test first time, and I drove 10 miles on my own, straight from the test centre, to tell my boyfriend I'd passed.

I'd love an old Mini again, the new ones are a lot bigger and wouldn't have the nostalgia that an old model would give. Happy memories 😀.

Not all of them, I hasten to add. Just the 3 ‘rich’ ones or at least the ones from the wealthy family. The others had to buy their own or do without ! One of them drives a crap old truck that he found in a farmer’s field and bought for $500 . He is a carpenter and lives very hand to mouth.
