I have two purses. There is nothing in either of them. My cards are in a separate anti cloning case and everything else is on my phone. On holiday recently when we ate out, and this was in every restaurant/cafe, we paid with a card as none of the took cash. We were in Staffordshire.

I am old in years but nothing to do with the cash v card business.
I carry my card and have various club and store cards on my phone. I always carry some cash which came in very useful at an art gallery café recently when, you guessed it, their card reader wasn't working.

I volunteer in our community store on the till each week and although most customers pay by card many don't and not just the old ones either.

It's a bit of a trek to the nearest ATM but sometimes needs must.

What happens when said purse or wallet containing the cash is stolen or lost especially if it also contains debit and credit cards?

I like to hedge my bets - I usually use my phone, but I have all the cards too. I’m not worried about my phone getting lost or stolen so much as me forgetting I’ve left it at home or in the car on charge, or dropping it. I also keep and use cash, it’s just easier for small purchases, and it’s a back up when all else fails.

Well, i always carry a handbag so I have both in it. If i'm just shopping in the vilkage I might just take my phone.

Until recently one of our hospital car park's was cash only. Lots of people have been glad i had cash with me.

I have a Kipling lightweight cross body bag and a purse, never go out without either, always carry some cash though I pay mainly with card.

One of the recommendations in view of a national crises, is that we all have 3 months (I think) worth of cash stored away in the house.

I haven’t yet, but I guess if things are looking dodgy I might consider it.

If you do that make sure you read the small print on your house insurance. In the rare event that you might be burgled some insurance companies will only pay up to a certain amount of cash stolen.

Some takeaways only use cash. Well they used to up to about a year ago. Not sure if they have all changed or not.

I am obsessed about having all denominations of notes and coins in my beautiful purse bought from TKMaxx years ago. Cost £25 at the time and well worth it. All sorts of compartments, for notes cards, coins etc. If it wasn’t for the fact I need to carry my asthma inhaler, I wouldn’t carry a handbag.

I couldn't care less. Every generation does things differently to the previous one and the older generation, which ever generation that is, will always feel more comfortable doing a lot of things the way they did for the first 40 or 50 years of their life.

All of us adapt and change with new technology and ideas as we go through life, anyone on here grow up without a telephone and has till never had one? I thought not.

The interesting thing to see, which, of course, we never will, is what things are the young generation doing now, that they will do into old age, to the patronising amusement of those two generations younger than them.

I am considered old but I don’t even carry a handbag at the moment. Just one of those little cross body bags that hold a phone and keys. I’ve discovered it’s all I need.

If I’m considered old because I use a purse so be it.
Mine was a gift from my son it is getting a bit tatty now but the brand it is from don’t make them any more. I use it not only for cash and cards but keep 2 paracetamol in it for emergencies and other bits like a hair grip and elastic band to tie hair up, stamps and a paper clip! Items I might need on the go.

I’ve thought for a long time that it’s sensible to have a fairly small amount of cash around for the reasons already given. I reckon about £200 would be enough for a big supermarket shop as well as filling up both of our cars.

It would only take an internet cyber attack to render cards and phones useless.

I have a purse with cards in, no cash, I am very wary of having banking apps or cards on my phone, banking apps are on my iPad which is always at home. My purse is bright pink also Georgesgran and my DH also bought it for me a few Christmases ago.

I too have a purse with cash in it, along with bank cards, M&S free drinks vouchers, a couple of loyalty cards I haven't yet put in my phone wallet, and an assortment of other bits and pieces. If that makes me old and decrepit so be it. I loved being in Canada recently, cash was accepted as normally as card transactions, not a comment or raised eyebrow. My Radley purses are fun designs and well made, and I don't have to panic if my phone has a poor signal or a low battery.
Even if getting rid of my purse made me 'down with the kids' I'd still say 'no thanks'

I carry my credit/debit cards in an inside pocket in my handbag so away from my purse. My purse contains cash and store loyalty cards. An outside zipped pocket contains my bus pass and door keys. This way if I lose my purse I still have the means to travel and pay for anything if need be. It’s a little trouble if you want to keep changing bags but much safer than holding everything in one place and as I have lost a purse before now I know it can happen.
