I have a month’s supply of cash in small notes and coins locked away for when the wires get cut or transmissions get blocked. I use cash for every day items, my bank statements would look ridiculously long if I didn’t. That being said, do the people who do everything on their phone check the items on their bank accounts? My super intelligent DD was paying two electric bills for over a year because they hadn’t stopped one when they moved, relying on the next people to so as verbally agreed.

I wouldn’t risk relying on my phone.
I had to change it a while back, and still curse it daily. It ‘updates’ randomly, I don’t ask it to, it changes what I type, in short I loathe it. Sadly I need it for a speech to text app, invaluable, as my cochlear implant is so unreliable.
Possibly I just struggle with tech stuff generally? It doesn’t like me at all. (Samsung something or other)

I don't trust it at all.
In fact, I despise it.

Not only do I have my own purse but I'm the proud holder/keeper of a bright pink "Kitty purse" (it's written on the front) with twenty pounds still in there from "the girls" last outing to Hebden Bridge & quietly awaiting our next day away.

We may be oldies but we're still "the girls" to each other complete with the communal kitty purse.

I liked a kitty purse on a day out with a friend. We both used to put in 30.00 to 50.00 cash and that paid for train fares, lunch, coffee and entrance to whatever. If any left over we divided it and took it back or left it for next time. Worked well.

Whether it would work well now with fewer places taking cash I am not sure. Circumstances have stopped us going out for days. But this autumn we will be.

I carry a purse in my bag . One thing I don’t do is put my card on my phone . I’ve seen far too many instances of phone theft and people suddenly panicking that they can’t get any access to their money as their entire life depends upon the phone. Only recently the supermarket was saying cash only as the system had crashed for contactless / card payments. The look on the youngsters faces was priceless!.of course I was fine because I had the cash in my purse . Guess it must make me old fashioned!. One thing I have noticed is how many youngsters don’t sign the back of their bank cards these days ?.

I’m very old indeed. I carry a bag containing a purse containing my bank card plus my number in code, £10 note and bus pass.
Occasionally I remember to take my mobile phone in case I get run over but I don’t use it, sight too bad and hand too trembly. I don’t actually know how to make or receive calls as I’ve never tried.

If it's helpful at all, without being patronising, I hope, there are very simple mobiles with huge buttons and just one or two functions.
You've managed, though, and are managing, so... probably not of interest to you.

When younger all I needed went in the pockets of my jeans. £10 note folded small in little pocket. Fivers worth of change in pockets along with cigarettes & lighter as I smoked then. Small id wallet in back pocket! Never needed much as usually racing around on back of my then boyfriend's motorbike. Only thing missing now is the boyfriend & bike still in jeans & pockets stuffed with all I need!

I’ve just been gifted a beautiful purse. But for years I’ve managed with just my phone.

I like going to car boot sales so I will use the new purse which incidentally matches my handbag. I usually have coins and notes in a sandwich bag 🤣

Well we’ve been officially advised to stock up on food in case of cyber attacks, so it seems sensible to have some cash available for the same reason. Also, shopping electronically seems to generate a cascade of targeted advertising loosely related to your purchases. So yes, I carry a purse.

I’m old. Wear a cross body bag. The bag is always on my front, and it does have my purse in it with credit card, bus pass and loyalty cards, and also some cash. My phone is in a different section from my purse. If I don’t want to wear a bag, I’ll wear a jacket with inside pockets which can hold my phone, car key, and a credit card.

I think people that never use cash are ignorant. Do they really want it to disappear and us only be able to use cards?! Probably the same people that will complain if we're forced to use ID cards.

I don't think that I am ignorant. I don't use cash because my mobility is poor and the nearest place to get cash is a walk too far. Next time stop and think before condemning everyone not using cash as ignorant.

Well, I am also old, then, as is everyone I know of all ages. I like purses and I still use cash as well as cards. I like Radley or Ness purses best. My everyday purse is a cream Radley purse but this week alone l have used a black purse to match a black handbag for a funeral and, today, swapped to my red holiday purse. My husband always carries a wallet with him, as do our two sons. Both purses and wallets make really nice birthday or Christmas presents, too.

I always have cash and we use it to pay plenty of people like the window cleaner, the farrier who shoes. my horse, the dog groomer, hairdresser etc.

I have cards for other purchases. I don’t use my phone to pay except for bank transfers.

Sweden is one of the leaders in this technology.

I don’t understand why people are fixated with cash disappearing. This will come but by the time it does, we, and possible our children will be pushing up daisies.
