Seems it’s now Harry’s uncle - the Earl of Spencer - having his turn at a “tell all” book.

Honestly why? What is the attraction this family have in airing their dirty laundry? It can’t be for money, he’s wealthy. He must think it’ll be cathartic like his nephew imagined it would be if he told us all “his truth”. More mud slinging. Talk about making a bad situation worse.

Apparently Spencer has now compared Meghan Markle's troubles to those of Diana because of their exposure to and by the Press.
Both those women thought they could use the Press to their advantage, and how it backfired.

And Spencer is, or used to be, a journalist.

I think Calendar Girl is right and that too much has been made of the boys walking behind the coffin. It's the done thing in their circles as a sign of respect. I don't mean that it wasn't an ordeal, and H in particular was at a marginal age but if he hadn't done it who knows but that he might not be feeling aggrieved now.

Elegran Sun 20-Sept-26 12:05:44

I seem to remember reading that the boys were asked whether they wanted to walk behind Diana's coffin with the adults. William said he would. Harry then said he would too.

I suspect that, even back then, Harry did not want to be invisible while William was in the limelight. Perhaps he hadn't realised just how much limelight would be on them as they walked through the crowds.

Noted, Calendargirl.

I don't think children can be expected to make those sort of decisions especially where grief is concerned. I remember my boy being keen to read a poem at a relative's funeral and we let him because he seemed quite confident that he could do it. Half way through the reading he completely crumbled. It suddenly hit him where he was and why he was there. It was one of those horrible moments where as a parent you realise you have made a terrible mistake.

I don't think anybody could say that this one incident made Harry into the person he is. There are so many things that we never have to deal with. It is more than likely an accumulation of these things that have had a lasting effect.

merlotgran Sun 20-Sept-26 12:21:17

I don’t think anyone in the royal family or their advisors expected such an emotional response from the public lining the route. They were used to silence and bowed heads at royal funerals not weeping, wailing and flowers being thrown at the hearse. No wonder the boys were traumatised and once they’d taken their first steps it was too late turn back. I’m sure I’m not the only one who guessed it would one day be a stick to beat the RF with.

The stiff upper lip has given way to emotional incontinence. It certainly grabs more headlines.

Does he? Meghan has included a Swan emoji in her latest Instagram post for her As Ever products, presumably showing her support to Harry’s uncle.

Both of them are real piece of work, kicking someone when he is down and living with cancer.

And is ES any better by exposing his 'truth' to the world.

Just heard on the ITV lunchtime news that he's now accusing Charles of gaslighting him. No he isn't gaslighting you ES, he very diplomatically called you a liar.

Calendargirl Sun 20-Sept-26 13:43:38

It all just seems so ‘coincidental’, H&M’s sudden return, the Earl’s book coming out soon, the revelations about what Charles did (or didn’t) say 29 years ago, not forgetting the family get together at Althorp so recently.

And Meg putting out ‘swan’ emojis?

I think much was discussed at the Althorp gathering, and none of it complimentary to the House of Windsor.

We will never know what was actually said, Spencer can allege whatever he wants to sell his book and BBC oblige with a high profile interview helps a lot.

By making that statement the least he would expect is to have is recollection questioned it was a pretty low accusation. So I guess he off the Christmas card list.

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Oooooh you are awful !! but I like you .....😊😊

What does he want - for Charles to go round and punch him on the nose? That would be very undignified and not befitting a king. I just wish he would shut the up. What exactly is he hoping to achieve? Apart from helping the DM sell copies.

beachcomber76 Sun 20-Sept-26 15:01:05

My thoughts exactly Calendargirl .

The timing of Harry and Meghan's return so they are here and settled ready for the release of Harry's uncle's book. How convenient, great timing.

Harry would have known about this for ages - and had time to think if he could/should use it to his advantage. If that is his thought, he would surely think it would make his 'case' stronger and justify his awful past behaviour. Now with Spencer's blessing and back up.

Talk about gathering of the troops manipulation. The royal family knows the reason and agenda of their return now alright. And it's not to bury any hatchet.

Calendargirl Sun 20-Sept-26 15:17:27

And it’s not to bury any hatchet

Except perhaps in the King’s head?

shock

Smileless2012 Sun 20-Sept-26 15:53:44

I like you too Labradora grin

Swan emojis hmm you couldn't be more blatant could you. I agree beachcomber their reason for returning couldn't be any clearer could it.

Unfortunate coincidence, if H&M genuinely want to return to UK to live privately it does nothing to help them settle if thats what the intend.

Smileless2012 Sun 20-Sept-26 16:07:54

I think the only genuine thing about H&M is how much they despise H's family David.

beachcomber76 Sun 20-Sept-26 16:26:37

Meghan has a genuine lack of respect, shows rudeness and contempt for her own father who I don't believe has ever met his grandchildren, let alone had any access to them. In my world that's cruel.

A well matched pair in that respect.

Margs Sun 20-Sept-26 18:15:08

Charlie Spencer has had enough publicity and attention to last several lifetimes so it's about time to put a sock in it, Your Grace.

Go and vanish down the crack in the floorboards from whence you came and give your narcissism a rest......

merlotgran Sun 20-Sept-26 18:16:50

I will be watching Charles Spencer’s interview with Laura Kuenssberg on BBC 1 at 6.30.
At least it’s not Oprah! 🤔

He is now criticising the media. But I read ( not sure if it’s true) that he organised the Martin Bashir interview with Diana? And when he talks about the way the media are now treating Meghan well, from my memory Harry and Meghan were regarded as a breath of fresh air and quite beloved by everyone until they started accusing the royal family of racist comments and then writing kiss and tell books about them. And they were so respected for their charity work. I think it’s awful that he’s saying Diana used to drive to Beachy Head with suicidal intent and that Harry was out of control. I also read that ES rarely visited Diana at Kensington Palace.

MarieElla Sun 20-Sept-26 18:23:49

How much support did he give his nephews after their mother died?
How much support did he give his own daughters when he divorced their mother. One is definitely estranged from him and didn't even have him at her wedding and I think one or two of the other children are also estranged from him.
He is heartless!

MarieElla Sun 20-Sept-26 18:26:50

Two of his daughters, in fact, Kitty and Amelia didn't have him at their weddings?

MawsRosie Sun 20-Sept-26 18:27:46

This sounds like a two- pronged attack on the King - Charles Spencer allying himself with the Sussexes. It is underhand, mud-slinging, and just another attempt to force King Charles’s/Buckingham Palace’s hand and I sincerely hope it doesn’t succeed.
In fact hope it comes back to bite them in the bum.

merlotgran Sun 20-Sept-26 19:05:33

I thought LK did a good job.

Calendargirl Sun 20-Sept-26 19:20:43

I thought the interview was interesting and thought provoking.

Had to smile when he said about his lovely Norwegian wife.

Is that 3rd or 4th time lucky then?

I too thought Laura did well.

The Earl’s responses were measured and considered.

I thought he looked genuinely emotional at the end.

Still think he’s Team H&M though.
