Seems it’s now Harry’s uncle - the Earl of Spencer - having his turn at a “tell all” book.

Honestly why? What is the attraction this family have in airing their dirty laundry? It can’t be for money, he’s wealthy. He must think it’ll be cathartic like his nephew imagined it would be if he told us all “his truth”. More mud slinging. Talk about making a bad situation worse.

Just thought I'd share these from Private Eye

Casdon

Do you term putting an alternative point of view forward as defending somebody you have no vested interest in Mollygo?

No more than others putting an alternative view not defending somebody in whom they have known invested interest, Casdon
Do you think his dragging Diana‘s name and all the things that he thinks went wrong with her life into the public view again shows consideration for her children or her grandchildren?

M0nica Thu 24-Sept-26 12:13:48

Does this 'tell all' book include all the times he failed his sister and treated her with indifference?

It is in the least hypocritical to accuse King Charles of a reaction which Spencer alleges took place during a phone call, not face to face, at a time of immense shock for both of them.

Spencer himself accused his sister of being manipulative, deceitful and having mental problems, a very unkind thing for a brother to write in a letter to a sister when she needed help.

I wonder if that is in his book?

Smileless2012 Thu 24-Sept-26 12:53:06

Do you really believe that William and Harry knew their father was 'giddy and elated' at the death of their mother Casdon. You must do if you don't think this book is telling them something they didn't already know.

You couldn't make it up could you NotSpaghetti oh wait a minute ES just has.

Only if you can access FB, this is IMO an excellent commentary on the book.

I don’t think it is ‘dragging’ them anywhere, and I don’t think there is anything new to them in what he says. He’s their uncle, they know him and what his view is already. You make too many assumptions about how they might feel.

I think they ready knew what their uncle thought of their father’s reaction as well Smileless2012, and that they also realise that was his perception, rather than a universal truth.

And you accuse others of making too many assumptions about how they might feel Casdon.

I copied the article where Spencer said there was nothing he hadn’t discussed with his nephews. Hey Ho.

Smileless2012 Thu 24-Sept-26 14:42:28

So it must be true then hmm.

Casdon Thu 24-Sept-26 14:45:25

In the absence of any contradiction, one would assume he is telling the truth - unless you are determined to believe everything he says is a lie. It’s between him, William and Harry, and they know what they know, don’t they?

At least he was explicit about this unlike KC's statement which wasn't an explicit denial.

The difference is that William and Harry were with their father and Grandparents. They know what the mood was like.

Spencer was in South Africa.

The then Head of Royal Protection travelled up to Balmoral straight away and said the mood there was one of shock and very sombre.
"My colleagues up there all said this was such a sad occasion and there was no indication that anyone in the royal family who were up in Balmoral were anything other than saddened."

Casdon Thu 24-Sept-26 15:02:25

I give up. They know what they know from what they were involved with at Balmoral, with their father, and they also know how their uncle felt because he told them. It’s between them.

JenniRen Thu 24-Sept-26 15:06:55

It's not between them, though, because Spencer has published his version of what he thought was happening at Balmoral for the world to read, when in fact he was thousands of miles away and in deep shock himself, as were the Royal Family.

Smileless2012 Thu 24-Sept-26 15:08:58

But it's not between them is it, ES has told the world.

He was explicit about what he wrote about PM until he was called out for it icanhandthemback and as I've already said, Charles' statement was an extremely polite and diplomatic response by calling ES a liar without actually saying so,

Casdon Thu 24-Sept-26 15:36:48

Their relationship is between them Smileless2012, we don’t own it. I’ve not seen any comment from William or Harry, and its likely that both of them have both been aware for years of the feelings of both their father and their uncle. It’s fine for you to feel upset on their behalf, but don’t assume you know how they actually feel - no doubt they each have their own, completely different takes, both on this specific issue and on the rest of the book, bearing in mind that although some are fixated on this one issue, it’s a tiny part of the whole.

Whatever the Earl’s aims he has only succeeded in opening old wounds and potentially subjecting Diana and himself to being dragged through the mud as well.
It is high time the Diana debacle was laid to rest and those who loved her were allowed to let this go.

But it isn’t between William and Harry, because ES has made it public.

I don’t think anyone has claimed that everything he says is a lie, but once one lie is verified, it’s no surprise that the media sees the rest of his claims as questionable.

Is anyone able to claim that everything ES has said is the truth?

Smileless2012 Thu 24-Sept-26 17:01:28

Not one of my posts on this thread makes any reference to how William and Harry may be feeling Casdon.
