Seems it’s now Harry’s uncle - the Earl of Spencer - having his turn at a “tell all” book.

Honestly why? What is the attraction this family have in airing their dirty laundry? It can’t be for money, he’s wealthy. He must think it’ll be cathartic like his nephew imagined it would be if he told us all “his truth”. More mud slinging. Talk about making a bad situation worse.

Smileless2012 Fri 18-Sept-26 13:06:08

oops unless William or Harry converted.

SporeRB01 Fri 18-Sept-26 13:08:56

I do not believe that someone as dysfunctional as Earl Spencer can give the world an accurate account of Diana. His book will present his own version of events, built on half-truths.

At times, I feel that the British Constitution—both the Monarchy and Parliament—is under offensive attack.

On the one hand, two billionaires have tried to influence and reshape the British Parliament through substantial donations to Nigel Farage. On the other, Charles Spencer, Harry, Meghan, and their backers? undermine the Monarchy at every opportunity.

Many years ago, a charity emailed to ask whether we would attend a Royal Garden Party at Buckingham Palace hosted by Prince Harry. I had already been twice, so I asked my DD if she would accompany my DH. She said she would love to attend but had just started a new job and thought her employer would not appreciate her taking time off for a jolly at Buckingham Palace. We therefore declined the invitation.

It wouldn't have made any difference Petrina William or Harry converted.

I'm not entirely sure about that. The Catholic Church recognises baptisms done by the CoE as valid and no conversion is needed for children brought up in the catholic tradition.

In any case - I'm just speculating idly, not wishing to get into the depths of religious protocol. But the fact that such a question can even be asked just shows how nonsensical all of this is.

Smileless2012 Fri 18-Sept-26 13:17:40

It's constitutional law Petrina. A practising catholic couldn't become the monarch as being so makes them the Head of the Church of England.

Yes that's the point I'm making. If William and Harry were catholics (which would be true if they were brought up as catholics) then they, and everyone down to AMW are out of the line of succession.

Jaberwok Fri 18-Sept-26 13:41:11

It's Earl Spencer, not of Spencer.

I'm referring to the lies during the Oprah interview and the lies in Spare icanhandthemback in response to Dontcallmelove's post.

No where have I said H is responsible for his uncles revelations; what a ridiculous thing to say.

I would think that the so called 'revelations' may well make reconciliation with his father harder, and with other family members impossible.

I was not referring to his lies but why should another person's "truth" be used against Harry? It makes as much sense as someone uprooting their family to another country to coincide with the publication of the book.

Dickens Fri 18-Sept-26 13:52:40

It's rather ironic that men tend to view women, generally speaking, as 'gossips', often given to emotional outbursts, indulging in 'tell-all' revelations about their relationships...

Yet here we have two high-profile men who appear to have mastered this dubious 'art' to perfection!

Oreo Fri 18-Sept-26 14:03:23

Presumably all these high profile men and women use ghost writers.

I’ve also been wondering if Anniebach is ok

merlotgran Fri 18-Sept-26 15:32:15

Same here. She always contributes to threads about the royal family.

Smileless2012 Fri 18-Sept-26 16:25:42

I haven't said another person's truth should be used against Harry icanhandthemback. I've already explained that my post that you're referring too was in response to Dontcallmelove.

Because William is a direct heir to the throne, the Royal Family and the British Government would never have allowed him to be raised in a faith that would legally strip him of his birthright Petrina. Diana's faith would have been her own affair.

Good point Dickens.

Grief does take people in very different ways initially I think. What we don’t know was whether by the time Diana died, she was still irrational, or difficult about the children, whether Charles was in some part relieved because it would remove a lot of stress, or what her relationship with her brother was actually like and how much she shared with him. It’s all speculation.

On another note, I hope AnnieBach is okay, she normally comments on all the royal threads, but I haven’t seen her lately?

I occasionally wonder what exactly would have happened if Diana had converted to catholicism and tried to bring up the two boys as catholics. I know that, somehow, she never would have succeeded but one other side effect would be that AMW would still be second in line to the throne....

Not second in line as William's children come before AMW, as would Harry's children if they did not convert.

Yes I agree that's the case, but it would have been interesting to see how it was done.

There seems to be streak of really nasty spitefulness in the Spencer family, and I include Prince Harry in the list.

As well as Prince Harry's book and now Earl Spencers. The current Earl and his close relations treated their father's second wife with contempt almost before his body had reached the undertaker. They may not have liked her (she was Barbara Cartland's daughter) but there are limits and the current Earls treatment of his wives when he grows tired of them has left much to be desired if reports are correct.

eazybee Fri 18-Sept-26 18:26:16

Diana stood guard in the bedroom while Raine's clothes were packed, the day after Johnny Spencer died, to make sure she took nothing with her, and had the clothes removed from suitcases and put in binbags, which Charles Spencer kicked down stairs.
Not a nice family. A great capacity for hate.

traveller61 Fri 18-Sept-26 18:35:02

I think it’s very obscene for anyone to treat the royal family like this. First up it was Harry & meghans turn to trash his father & family, now Diana’s brother. Who do they think they are??

Oreo Fri 18-Sept-26 18:35:50

He and Harry are two of a kind with their boohoo comments.

traveller61 Fri 18-Sept-26 18:52:03

Can 1 or more of earl Spencer’s wives please dish some dirt of their relationship with him, this way he might know how it feels to be treated like the way prince Charles is now. It’s all ridiculous.

Musicgirl Fri 18-Sept-26 19:12:01

I think the best summary of this section of the book would be the words of the late Queen: "Recollections may vary."

winterwhite Fri 18-Sept-26 19:29:52

Do we know why Earl Spencer didn’t publicise the supposed content of this telephone conversation with Prince Charles at the time? He made no secret of his dislike of the Windsors.

If he were just putting into print words that it was known that he’d said 30 years ago that might put a different complexion on it. Though publishing this book is still IMO a very second rate thing to do.

Oh they know who they are alright.
They have the capacity to inflict damage to the royal family in a vengeful and spiteful way.

Dirt dishing ? Surely the outrage here is towards the ‘dirt dishers’

The problem there is that we're not that interested in Charles Spencer.

Mollygo Fri 18-Sept-26 22:52:25

Well we’ll undoubtedly learn all about it. Apart from the DM, the matter is going to be heavily reported in the Guardian and the Telegraph.
