Good Morning Everyone,
A dark and dry start to the day here in Brackley.
Plans for the day after a light breakfast , I will get the bus into Bicester , go to the bakery cafe have a coffee and a fried breakfast which set me up for the day , maybe a beer followed by a shop and hopefully talk to people I know.
Later a Chinese Take Away , then I will here the local firework display which is sponsored by F1 team Mercedes.
Health OK,
Take Care,
Mick

Good morning all from Polmont where it's currently 9° and dry with a lovely pink and orange sky. I've now lost 2 posts, so here's hoping this one stays! GrandMattie you will wear yourself out if you don't slow down. Susan I like the sound of that activity with your dgc. Marzipan I love everything Halloween. I like a good scare.
Yesterday was very quiet. I pottered about house and did some housework. I sorted out bags for any wee guisers tonight. Tesco delivered and I assembled a salad for dinner.
Today I will meet my friend for breakfast which I am looking forward to. Then home to finish housework. Dd will bring the boys round later, all dressed up and I anticipate other wee people will call too. Have a good day all.

Good morning Mick and all GN's on a still , dark morning, cant see yet if it has been raining. Sods law today, I planned to get up and get cracking this morning , but messed it up myself. I usually get up carefully and slowly as my back is often very painful. Today I wanted to get going quickly, but served me right. Trying to move quicker , without a cautious bit at a time, and seeing how things were, and moving various muscles and things carefully, I tried to get moving in a quicker way. That didnt work, as my back then locked up in quite a painful way and I have had to sit and wait for it to loosen up. That will teach me! So here I am, not even up to the normal level of activity. Never mind. I wanted to get going early , so that I could set out early, to get down the market and on to the repair cafe to be one of the earlies there.Well I shall attempt to still do that , but the basic things that I usually do here first will have to wait until later.

Yesterday, what started as a very fraught morning, did improve. It took so long for my son to contact me, but at last some relief when he sent me a message. He said that the doctor had removed quite a lot of the gunge from his ear, but didnt have a general anaesthetic for it. That he has then been put on steroids for three weeks and then has to go back. Of course, if things get worse at all he has to contact them immediately. He has promised to ring me this weekend and so I shall hear more detail then.

I was so uptight and worried about it all , that of course my back and every bit of me was painful and tense and even trying to remember breathing exercises and yoga bits didnt seem to help. Nearly gave up on the plan to go to the exercise class, as the thought of the useless man running it and doing boring things, definitely did not appeal. However I decided that I would at least make the effort to get out, and there mightbe more chance of me relaxing a bit rather than stay here and worry.

Well fortune favours the brave!! A rubbish journey, quite misty, lots of idiots about with no lights on, and the road seemed worse than ever for jolting me about. The promised improvements have not yet started at the library, and so still struggling to get up the flipping ramp, but finally got there about 10 minutes late, and hobbled into the class. Ah ha! The dozy man wasnt there and the lovely Joe was in charge. What a difference! There wasnt a large group as several people had voted with their feet and so had not come thinking that the other man was there. So it was much better organised and he had quite a variety of ideas on games to play with the boca. I hobbled to a seat with arms, to allow me to get up again, and joined in. Throwing boca ball things, was very good for me. I had to either be knocking things out of circles , gaining more for each thing knocked out, or be trying to get close to a particular item, whilst blocking the opponents or knocking them away. So that was just the ticket as I was able to use some of the uptight energy to try to beat the other team, and although I didnt get rid of any pain, it did definitely help to loosen my muscles up a bit. So I was glad that I had gone.

Then when that finished and the others had all left I managed to speak to one of the staff about this light thing on offer. She said that there was a waiting list, nothing available right now, but kindly offered to bring one up for me to look a and read the information about, as they had one ready to send out to someone. I was grateful to her for getting it for me and so was able to sit there in the peaceful reference library, and read the Yorkshire Post while I was waiting, as they had quite a hulaballo going on downstairs, with children making halloween masks and generally having quite a good time, btu rather noisy. So I was able to look at it, and read the instructions and then definitely put my name on the waiting list, and then left the library, physically not much better but mentally quite improved.

One friend that I thought would be there hadnt come and I decided that I would go and check on her, as she had said that she planned to come, but by the time I left the library, it was lunch time and I decided that I would go and get a few bits from Tesco , then go home and then call in the afternoon. As I crossed a car park I suddenly saw a friend I havent seen for ages, and was glad to meet up and we both said we had wondered if we were away or moved as it seemed so long since we had met. So plans abandoned we went to a cafe for a quick coffee and catch up. She only had about half an hour left on her car park time, so we didnt stay too long, but it was lovely to catch up on news and views, and it did quite help me , telling her about my son and the situation right now. So I then finally got home and got something to eat.

I began to tidy up a bit and then thought, no the weather had cleared up to quite a sunny afternoon, and I should make the most of it by going on the yellow peril to see if the lady who didnt come to the boca was ok. So abandoning the tidy up half done, I got ready and out. It was chilly but dry and although it was the wheels rather than my feet, it was nice hearing the scrunching of the autumn leaves. Arrived at her house to see a strange car parked in her drive , and her car missing, so gathered she was out with someone, and so while it was still sunny I went down a little ginnel to see where it ended up, as I had not tried it before. Coming out I wasnt quite sure where I was and going to the end of the road to check the signing met my friend from the library meeting, out walking her dog. So she was on her way home and I carried on with her and visited her house for the first time. Didnt go in but looked round her lovely big garden. It was quite a revelation and she had already done quite a lot of things but had other things planned, and we happily wandered round looking at bits and pieces and she has some lovely mature trees in her garden , including 2 lovely old magnolias . She invited me in, but the time was going by and so I declined but will go another time, and came home to my still half tidied place to sort out. So it had been a very tiring day, but had improved by leaps and bounds from the start of the day.

I was very weary and still creaking about, so didnt feel up to doing much that evening, but watched Gardeners world and before that heard Clare Balding visiting Swaledale on radio 4. I missed a bit of it and so will listen again today. So , counted my blessings and ignoring yet again the pile of ironing went off to bed.

So now , it is shower, get myself dressed in easy to get on and off trousers, and then will go on the yellow peril, collecting a few bits and the Yorkshire Post as I go, to the Repair cafe and try to be there for the start at 10am. I need to take the trousers I want altering, my blue cords to measure against as they are the best length, and anything else I think of, and then I shall be happy to give a donation, have a coffee and maybe a forbidden cake whilst I wait, and if needed I can disappear into their cloakroom to try on the trousers, so that they can measure and sort the hems out one way or another. It is quite a little way outside the town centre and so will give the buggy a run out. As it has been on charge all night it should be fine and today I shall put my big bright yellow jacket on so there is no chance I will not be seen. With yesterdays improving and hopefully get this done today I can hope for a better week next week. Ah well it is daylight now, grey and misty but the wind has just got up more now so hopefully it might blow the mist away. Not a sign of birds or squirrels so expect it is colder today too.

I hope your trip goes well today Mick, your fireworks are quite early arent they? Dont think there are any round here this early. Some on the actual 5th but others on the following weekend . GrandMattie you are having a tough time at the moment and I think people are being thoughtless and selfish leaving so much to you. Why isnt your priest being firmer with people and saying that if they dont make more effort to do things properly and make sure things are cleared away etc, then he will cancel some things? He is not being fair to you, or the willing few who make some effort. I do understand that difficult situation, where you dont want to let people down and spoil their time, but expecting you to constantly sort out the mess is just not right. Perhaps it is time for a sermon on the Good Samaritan and how we all need to make an effort to do our part, might stir a few people up. Karmalady I am interested in fungi and the one you have seen sounds interesting. I love looking round at this time of year to see what comes up, but am very cautious and dont tend to pick any, just admiring the interesting surprising fungi that just seem to arrive in a morning. RosesandLilac, lovely to hear you are getting back to your own patterns and being able to choose to do things you are enjoying. Blue Sapphire, you are making my feet itch! Lovely to see more places and I have never been to sicily. Another place to add to my list to want to visit. Time I was making a move. Hope everyone has a good day and for those involved in Halloween do's that there are lots of scary costumes etc and the children enjoy themselves. Keep safe and warm , and hope you all meet a friend today too

Good morning from a brightening northern coast. My neighbours are back, so ends my cat feeding duties. They take over tomorrow feeding my cat as I’m away. They missed the strong storms here so chose the right time.

DS took ownership of his new motorbike and I didn’t have to go with him as the owner brought it back here for him. He’s so pleased as he made a good deal on it, but I wish it was a car for a variety of reasons. He didn’t stay overnight so I settled down to a cottage pie and the series I’m watching from the 70s.

There are rail works on Sunday, so my DD’s friend is taking me into the city for the train south which is so kind.
Thoughts to all poorlies and lovely photos Bluesapphire

GrannyGravy13 Sat 31-Oct-26 07:48:39

Good morning I can see blue sky from my bedroom window.

A small local shop first thing, then I shall get the ironing finished.

The you geet GC are excited for treat and treating later, the teens seem to have grown out of Halloween 🎃

Thinking of all our poorly morning friends 🙋‍♀️

EkwaNimitee Sat 31-Oct-26 07:53:10

Good morning Mick and everyone from brightish Carlisle where it looks like another pleasant day. No fog here, only one misty day in 5 years.

Yesterday was a very quiet day reflected in the inadequate amount of steps I clocked up by bedtime. I did get out in the garden, completing the filling of one raised bed and having a chat with my next door neighbour. Apparently folk are wanting the estate to get the 20mph limit. I've wondered why we don't have one yet as all the side suburban roads on the way into the centre have this limit. We have started to get through traffic now, folk going between main roads, so I too back any efforts to get a limit fixed.

Today, into town briefly to collect a delivery from M&S and get a package sent off. Then back for a phone chat with my sister.
I haven't decided on the afternoon's activity but activity is probably the wrong word! I've finished my book and think I'll find some easygoing page turner for the next one, then maybe continue with the series I've started watching on Prime.

Best wishes to Marydoll who I hope is on a ward by now.
And wishing you all a pleasant weekend.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Sat 31-Oct-26 08:01:37

Oh grandMattie all this over-activity isn’t funny. It’s too much (charity or not) dear lady. Your body is trying to tell you so - remember the other day when you felt you could ‘knife someone’ and the. yesterday that dizzy do.

Seriously pull back now for a while before your body pulls YOU down.

Otherwise martyrdom will cost you dearly. Be sensible now.

LucyAnna5 Sat 31-Oct-26 08:10:23

I’m on my second tea in bed with the gorgeous cockatoo beside me

I wonder if you meant cockapoo, Melanie? I’m imaging you sitting there like a pirate!

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Sat 31-Oct-26 08:12:26

I didn’t notice but that was funny LucyAnna5 well spotted!

HelterSkelter1 Sat 31-Oct-26 08:14:15

I didnt think of a cockapoo. I just thought how nice to chat to a cockatoo with yout tea.

Good morning from misty Leicestershire.

Yesterday we went into town for coffee only to find our favourite place has shut.

We stayed in Ludlow, Susan, 11 years ago and loved it but my DH contracted Legionaires disease from the hotel.

Hope to hear better news from Marydoll today.
Wishing everyone the best day possible.

Gagagran Sat 31-Oct-26 08:26:39

Good Morning everyone from a clear and dry central south coast. The forecast is good today and also for the next few days.

We managed the trip to the garden centre yesterday and purchased compost and the winter flowering pansies I plan to top my pots with when the tulips are put to bed in them. Now I have all I need I hope to do that nest week. It was a struggle walking, well hobbling in truth, through the maze to get to the till from the plants section. It's like IKEA - designed to get you walking through their entire stock with no signing to show a quick escape route! We also dropped off the four large bags of surplus clothing from our wardrobes weeding en route.

Today, DH is going for a coffee and cake ride with his cycling club but it is morning only so he will be back for a late lunch.

I once got a lecture from an older, wiser lady when I found myself being a carbon copy of GM's activities and was feeling exhausted and a little resentful. She said that we are all like holes in the sand which soon fill in when the tide turns. In other words, nobody is indispensable and someone will take our place or things will change. I still ponder on that and realise how right she was. I can no longer do what I did and it really hasn't made much difference in the greater scheme of things. Please do look after yourself GM.

Like all of us on here I am thinking of Marydoll and hoping for better news today.

Take care everyone and may those in need find some ease and comfort today.

Liberty Sat 31-Oct-26 08:30:02

Good morning from Suffolk where we’ve been greeted by the sun again which is such a treat after those grey mornings of a week or so again…..and warmth too in the middle of the day.

I did a light pruning of the roses in pots yesterday and shall, after the dog walk with DH, carry on with light gardening jobs. Other than that, the day is our own.

We spent quite a bit of yesterday, before leaving to go to the cinema,in contact with DGD3. She is a delightful teenager with a sense of fairness and with strong opinions about how things should be!

She had had a huge row with her parents and wanted our opinions as to how to deal with it. I think she was expecting us to fully support her which we couldn’t do,given the information she had given us. We felt sorry for her when we suggested that,if she could compromise with the situation that had caused the row,she might get some of what she wanted.

Grey and compromise don’t come easily to her,and others of her age I think whose world is very much black and white. We await further developments today.

Hoping to hear that Marydoll has a bed in cardiology now and all have a good day.

Gingster Sat 31-Oct-26 08:32:57

Having a lot of trouble posting today, so shall just wish you all a ‘good’ day.

Poppy68 Sat 31-Oct-26 08:35:23

Happy heal turning from a fellow sock knitter. 👍

Good morning from a dreary looking Torbay.

We are late waking and I need to be up as I’ve been given a last minute appointment at the Ophthalmology Dept., regarding my glaucoma . Apparently they are working at weekends.

Today my DGD is 14 and was delighted to receive money from us with which she has bought her latest pair of pointe shoes which are specially designed for dancers with bendy feet!

I hope everyone has a good weekend - I’m with you, Marzipan22 regarding Hallowe’en. Back in my working days I would explain to the pupils the origins with emphasis on All Saints' Day which is tomorrow.

Have a good weekend, everyone. 🦩🥰🦩💐🦩

Good morning all from the Scottish Borders. Another mild day. The French group were sitting outside our community café in short sleeves yesterday enjoying croissants and coffee - a lovely sight after last weekend's storms.

My Friday night dinner party expanded to 6 of us last night and it was most enjoyable.
I had made a little lantern for the table and with the fire and candle light we all looked beautiful 😍

I am viewing a house for the second time today along with a friend and possibly DS if he is available.

I agree. gMattie that you are in danger of collapse from over-doing your exertions.
Nobody is indispensable. Look after yourself.

Sicily is looking very pleasant BlueSapphire you certainly know how to enjoy a cruise.

I hopeMarydoll is in a proper ward at last. I'm glad you have news of your son Madeleine that sounds positive.

I had better take my flowers to the town hall. Although we have a new helper who is super enthusiastic and has probably carved pumpkins for today. Hooray!

Have a lovely day everyone.

Marydoll Sat 31-Oct-26 08:58:32

Good morning all from my hospital bed, but not a cardiology one.
I am still in acute medical care ward, where there were twenty two admissions last night!!!
Not conducive to a good night's sleep!

Beautiful photos BlueSapphire. Sciciily was on our bucket list.

I didn't have a good day yesterday, it was manic in our room,
I was awfully sick yesterday, as was the poor lady opposite.
I didn't do my laps round the ward.

I've had a few hours sleep, but surprisingly didn't hear new occupants being move into the room.
I woke up coughing with a bronchiectasis episode to find three new patients in the room. I hadn't heard a thing.

We had a bit of drama yesterday. Firstly, the lady, who had spun me a yarn, became very agitated and agressive, she wouldn't leave the staff alone. She had never had any visitors, when a lady with a walker, a middle aged man and a massive partially sighted man came to visit her.
We eventually found out, she had escaped from a care home and was found by the police, wandering in a park, with a dog!!!! (Whose dog, I ask.)

The lady with the walker, kept apologising for her sister's behaviour and thanked us for being so kind to her wee sister.😪
She was discharged and left with her family. Just as they left, I heard an enormous crash and the giant of a man was lying, out cold, at the door of my room.😱
All hell let loose! It took six people to get him on a trolley, which they wheeled into my room.
The lady opposite was horrified, because, ^There was a man in the room.'🤣
The professionalism of the staff was amazing.
It turned out, he had only been discharged from here, two days before.

I have no idea, what the day holds, more poking and prodding.
DD and SIL are coming with my injection first thing. I couldn't trust DH, He is getting unsettled, because I'm not at home. ♥️

I had a surprise visit from Dollie and her mum yesterday.
I had been telling her about Dr. Matt, the extremely dishy, drop dead gorgeous ward doctor. Tall, dark and handsome, what more could a girl want.
Dollie was horrified, because I was married to Papa.
I said was only 'window shopping, not 'buying'

DD is coming in early with my injection, from home. I never thought I would still be here today.

Wishing you all a very pleasant Sunday.

Marydoll Sat 31-Oct-26 09:25:10

^I agree. gMattie that you are in danger of collapse from over-doing your exertions.
Nobody is indispensable. Look after yourself.^

Look what happened to me.

luluaugust Sat 31-Oct-26 09:27:41

HelterSkelter yes the mist/fog often lies across the fields on the M20 route to Ashford
Marydoll even lying in bed sounds very busy! When I was in hospital for a while I used to wonder how I had slept through new admissions, sheer exhaustion I expect. Hope the day is smoother

Ladyleftfieldlover Sat 31-Oct-26 09:33:17

Morning all from a grey West Oxfordshire.

I didn’t wake up until 9 am.

We had a good time in Oxford yesterday. Delicious lunch at Cote then a trip to the Ashmolean. The Aphrodite exhibition was very good. So many wonderful statues. We looked at the pre-Raphaelites. I was pleased to see my favourite painting was back on display. ‘The Poor Actress eating her Christmas dinner’.

Not sure what we’re doing today. I will do a bit more sewing for my new project which is coming along well.

Milo the cat is still with us. We are keeping a very close eye.

Sorry you’re still in the wrong ward MaryD - but at least you’re in a hospital!

Have a good day.

TheWeirdoAgain60 Sat 31-Oct-26 09:44:30

Good morning, Michael12 and all!

BlueSapphire - it looks absolutely beautiful there!

I've been at work since 5 to get the shop cleaned, dusted, and polished, and opened at 8; no customers yet. So I'm sitting here with a can of green Monster and a bag of Fridge Raiders. Got a book under the counter, as always for quiet moments.

I had a good time off yesterday! I was going to go to my favourite cafe for a large glass mug of hot choc, Baileys and cream, but 2 obnoxious brats were running around uncontrolled, screaming and getting in everyone's way, so I went to another cafe instead!

I YouTube'd The Three Stooges, who still make me die laughing several years later!

Had a walkies around by the seafront, around little cobbled places and alleyways, guzzling from my tea flask.

Went to Morrisons for another couple of colouring books and pens/pencils. It's amazing how fast I get through them!

After thinking about retiring somewhere between May and December of 2027, I've decided to go for it. The Beast is making it more and more awkward for me to crash out of bed in the mornings and is stopping me from sleeping properly at night. I will, of course, give my boss several weeks' notice once the time is right, as she's a lovely lady; we get along brilliantly together, and she's a top-class boss too. I could get just a little part-time job somewhere, like a few hours over a couple of days, but that's it.

I have to go. See you all later!
