I do like the Tesco one but have only seen that and the M & S one so far.

I like the m&s and JL ads but really I think they should be advertised and play Christmas music in their stores at least till after Remembrance Day....gets earlier every year...

Bluebell, Totally agree. Cromwell had the right idea. He banned Christmas. Mind you, perhaps that's why we had the restoration of the monarchy. Some of it is fun.

durhamjen Sun 12-Nov-17 09:45:12

No television or adverts when Cromwell was around.

WilmaKnickersfit Sun 12-Nov-17 12:15:54

It was driving me mad trying to work out who the man is in the Debenham's ad and it turns out to be Ewan McGregor. Lovely voice - he should do audiobooks!

Christmas is as commercial as you want it to be. It's a personal choice that should be respected like any other.

John Lewis chose the wrong one, they commissioned more than one, and should have done with this one! www.youtube.com/watch?v=gZyjJtBIlow

Wilma Hello! smile

Jalima1108 Sun 12-Nov-17 14:30:56

On second thoughts, I will not say bah humbug.

If Cromwell banned television and Christmas adverts as well as Christmas and anything else jolly, then I am all for Christmas adverts, telly and a very merry Christmas.

durhamjen Sun 12-Nov-17 16:56:17

RAF, that's lovely. Thanks for putting it on, even if JL didn't commission it.

durhamjen Sun 12-Nov-17 18:56:53

Have you seen the Waitrose one, getting snowed in at the Tan Hill Inn? Good place to go in the Summer holidays, but you need warm clothes and snow boots any other time of the year.

BlueBelle Sun 12-Nov-17 19:28:44

gracesgran what goodwill is created by spending copious amounts of money to entice people to spend more copious amounts of money when the whole meaning of Christmas should be about love, and giving in a dignified and modest way I really don’t see where it has anything to do with my family, it’s just my opinion only and I stick by it
I d prefer to see the razzmatazz start in December and I d like it to be a competition for the best advert for the least money then I could actually applaud some ingenuity instead of the huge over the top reaction or how about open it to students studying media advertising and see if they could come up with something wonderful on a small budget Nothing I ve seen so far has made me want to rush to a particular shop has it anyone I buy where I see something the receiver would want I don’t watch an advert and think now I must go shopping in that store for all my presents ...do you ?

GracesGranMK2 Sun 12-Nov-17 20:47:13

That is just your opinion of Christmas BlueBelle. Mine is not having an argument about the meaning of Christmas in the middle of a harmless thread that some are enjoying.

You just do it your way. No one will stop you.

GracesGranMK2 Sun 12-Nov-17 22:20:49

Just seen the Waitrose Ad. I like that one.

GracesGranMK2 Sun 12-Nov-17 22:28:33

I might be more attracted to it because the music sounds like the music from "Home Fires" which I really liked.

Jalima1108 Sun 12-Nov-17 22:49:28

Was that the series about the WI that ended on a cliff-hanger and then they never brought it back?

durhamjen Sun 12-Nov-17 22:59:17

I like it because it's Tan Hill Inn. Been past it more often than we've been in it.
We nearly bought a guest house on the Pennine Way north of Tan Hill. We decided it was a bit too remote.

WilmaKnickersfit Mon 13-Nov-17 02:32:58

Hi Jalima Hope you're well! grin

RAF that's a great video! wink

BlueBelle Mon 13-Nov-17 05:20:01

So sorry Gracesgran I thought threads were about everyone offering an opinion whether it was in agreement or not

DanniRae Mon 13-Nov-17 07:17:39

We enjoyed "Home Fires" too Jalimal. Wasn't it disappointing the way they ended it? I don't really enjoy drama programmes much but when I do enjoy one they cut it!! angry

GracesGranMK2 Mon 13-Nov-17 09:26:02

So sorry Gracesgran I thought threads were about everyone offering an opinion whether it was in agreement or not

It is BlueBelle. You did. I offered mine in return. No need to apologise.

Jalima1108 Mon 13-Nov-17 10:27:12

DannieRae It was such a change to see Francesca Annis in a role like that. When I was a young teenager I wanted to be Francesca Annis!
(how daft is that?)

Jalima1108 Mon 13-Nov-17 10:31:06

Yes Wilma thanks, hope you are too.
I had to have a name change because of a technical blip but it is nearly the same as before.

Blinko Mon 13-Nov-17 12:36:27

Just seen the Waitrose ad. Judging by the depth of snow, I'm guessing they must be somewhere in the Scottish Highlands.... South of the border, I don't recall having snow like that for years, and even then not at Christmas.

Blinko Mon 13-Nov-17 12:38:03

Ah, Tan Hill, then...hmm

BBbevan Mon 13-Nov-17 12:38:28

Can't say I have noticed any. Perhaps we are on the wrong channel when they are aired

GracesGranMK2 Mon 13-Nov-17 14:20:57

Did the music on the Waitrose ad sound familiar Blinko?
