Has anyone got their Xmas decs up yet? On Tv yesterday, people showing their houses already decorated. I will do mine 1st December but I can understand people wanting a bit of magic after this horrendous year. ?

Before anyone jumps to the wrong conclusion.....MawB has enjoyed a bit of colourful topiary in years gone by.

Sewpolly Thu 22-Oct-20 13:42:35

I put them up as late as possible. Last year, as I was going to mychildren's houses and no one was coming here (officially) I decided not to put them up at all. I thought it was a relief, but I did regret it. This year I will be going to my 'bubble' but will still put them up at home.

The tree comes in and is decorated on the 21st december and that is also when the indoor decorations go up.

Outside, I put a decoration on the front door and some fairy lights on a bush or two before dark on the first Sunday in Advent.

I’ll wait till into December and will get onto it. It’ll be the first time I won’t have my gc here to enjoy helping. The 2 local gc enjoy setting it all up. I have a little crib and they leave the baby Jesus figure aside for their little cousins to add the finishing touches when they come to visit from 140 miles away. Like many, I’ll be doing it all solo this year. But the gc will enjoy looking at it all on FaceTime and for that reason I’ll still do it.
If we are all safe and well and the AC and spouses still in secure employment it will be a happy Christmas for me.
Thinking of all of you who are suffering or missing loved ones?

No more than 5 days before Christmas Day!! Ever!

It is bad enough keeping the 4 cats from knocking all the decorations off as it is.

Colourful topiary is very popular near me. One of my neighbours has had coloured balls at the side of their house all year so C...mas never ends for them.

you know, I have never been much for Christmas decorations since boys grew up and left home.. and now since dh died well less than a year ago, not even thinking about Christmas, well I do, but try not to

now reading these posts, I have felt a tingle! so thank you LOL

Used to put them ip on the 18/12 as that is my son's birthday.

My birthday too. 66 this year.

No decorations up until then.

Helen657 Thu 22-Oct-20 14:44:32

Way too early for me. Mine usually goes up 2 weekends before Xmas (but has to be up by 15th), so this year will be Saturday 12th Dec. We leave everything up until 12th night (as long as DH is around to help!)

Greciangirl Thu 22-Oct-20 14:47:15

No, No and No No.

I might be a little bit bored, but not that bored.

Theoddbird Thu 22-Oct-20 14:50:04

Couple of days before Christmas is soon enough Earlier is madness

Lulubelle500 Thu 22-Oct-20 15:03:35

Oh, Polnan I hope you have somewhere nice to go for Christmas!

Davida1968 Thu 22-Oct-20 15:16:22

Nooooooooooo!

crazyH Thu 22-Oct-20 15:18:29

Someone in our village has got her huge tree up......all lit up !!

Paperbackwriter Thu 22-Oct-20 15:35:15

FFS it's October! I put my tree up a couple days before Christmas and it comes down again on New Year's Day. That's quite enough!

Susiewong65 Thu 22-Oct-20 17:07:40

My neighbour, a few houses away, decorates for Halloween and when that comes down up goes the Christmas tree and ALL decorations !!!!
Everything must have a layer of dust on it by the 25th December.

Hithere Thu 22-Oct-20 17:15:26

Our xmas tree is up since mid September.
My kids wanted to decorate the house and they were asking for it for 2 weeks.

It is going to be a Halloween tree first, then Thanksgiving and finally xmas.

PollyDolly Thu 22-Oct-20 18:25:01

sweetcakes

OMG no! the weekend before Christmas is enough for me everything begins to look so tired if you have it up for weeks before hand and it comes down on the 2nd of January. But that's just my opinion.

Me too sweetcakes! It's difficult to dust with lots of clutter lying around and I detest the musty dusty smell of the Christmas tree when it gets taken down, always on January 1st!

Davida1968 Thu 22-Oct-20 18:25:04

Given that you mention Thanksgiving, I'm guessing that you're in the USA or Canada, Hithere?

phoenix Thu 22-Oct-20 18:37:54

Too early!

But we do have a large artificial ficus doo dah plant in the hall with some plain white lights threaded through it, and once the clocks change we will be turning those in the evenings, just for some cheerful lights!

Mamma7 Thu 22-Oct-20 19:22:06

No but have Autumn wreath on door, variety of lit pumpkins, black cats, bats hanging from lights, witches and the odd skeleton but then GC is in my childcare bubble..... but think I’d still decorate even if she wasn’t!!???

Mamma7 Thu 22-Oct-20 19:22:50

Ps live in UK

I usually never bother. But since the birth of my DGS, I've gone the whole hog.

But if I don't get to go to see him this Xmas, I'll be holed up my apartment alone, no tree/decs or meal.

mrscake1 Thu 22-Oct-20 19:43:31

Saw a Christmas tree fully decorated and lit last week when I was walking back to my house in the evening. Too early!!!!
