Commercial advent calendars are getting more adventurous by the year. I used to make my own for the children, e.g. by getting a Lego kit and adding a brick or two per day. They now do those ready made - including kits for grown ups. I have bought and given to family members tea calendars, detective stories, recipes children's stories. Nothing too expensive. (I don't even know anyone who would appreciate 24 perfumes or beauty products.)

But yesterday I saw one that really takes the biscuit, albeit quite a good idea. A sock calendar!

What weird ideas have you seen, or do you prefer to make your own, or don't like them at all. (I suppose I ought to add that here in Germany they have always been a thing and are not considered new-fangled. However the Germans are very conservative and probably way behind the rest of the world with whacky ideas, sticking to the customary chocolate, or even the simple windows that open to show a picture)

We still buy the choclate ones for our girls (both in their 30s) and GC. Our eldes DD still remembers one year when we were a bit hard up when she was very small, so saved the previous year's calendars and re-filled them with liquid chocolate and left them to set. On 1st December, she excitedly opened the first little door (which had been carefully wedged shut again!) and shouted, "Oh look, it's a .......... blob?!!! We all really laugh about that still.

I'm on the naughty step here. I love a chocolate filled Advent Calender. DH has bought me the Lindt one. Yummy xx

My boys are aghast at the thought that we got excited at a calendar with nothing behind the doors.
Just a picture when you opened them up.
