After much eye rolling, inspections, and laughter about my washing up skills, or lack thereof, I have pushed the boat out and bought something boys will really appreciate for Christmas.

Now they can be happy that nan isn't trying to give them upset stomachs.

My dishwasher died thirty three years ago. He said it was only right for him to do it after I had done all the cooking. There is not enough room in my kitchen for a mechanical one but my daily help does it now.

I love my dishwasher ❤️ (it doesn't know I'm cheating on it with the automatic washing machine) who says you Can't love 2 at once ?

So pleased for you the boys ?. In 1988, after 15 years marriage we bought our 3rd house that included a shiny tangerine kitchen. That included a built in dishwasher, our first. It lasted a few months when one of its pumps went. Husband got in touch with Neff, the manufacturer, who advised that the machine was 17 years old and not worth repairing. Husband had the bright idea that if we took it out, we could fit a freezer in its place (we only had the wee freezer section in the fridge). Not a chance, I said. It has to be a new dishwasher. It’s amazing how quickly you grow to love something! It was duly replaced with a sparkly new one and we bought a chest freezer which lived in the garage. Perfect! Wouldn’t be without one. Good luck with yours. ?

When I became a single parent with a full-time job and two teenage sons, a dishwasher became essential if I wasn't to come home to a sink full of dishes. Mind you, it took some training to ensure that they knew where to put the dishes. Now middle aged dads, with teenage children, they wouldn't be without their dishwashers. Living on my own, I have a slimline Bosch and love it dearly.

The ones I've bought have liquid in them, so I can't really cut them.
I presumed they are the 3 in 1 type with salt in, too?
I don't understand all of that stuff yet.

mumofmadboys Wed 08-Dec-21 23:13:28

I always use half a dishwashing tablet too

MissAdventure Wed 08-Dec-21 23:05:20

I'm not sure how big a thing my dishwasher will take.
That would mean doing some actual cooking to see if it will take anything bigger than plates. blush

I could not survive without mine and I cheat by cleaning the fridge shelves in it also. I empty a shelf, bring it to room T and then pop it in the machine, top or bottom shelf wherever it will fit and it is sparkling afterwards.

MissAdventure Wed 08-Dec-21 17:58:22

I hope mine lasts that long! smile
It's done a great job on its first few loads.

I discovered after my dishwasher died (aged 20!) that I’m rubbish at hand-washing dishes. And I seemed to use far more water than the machine. So have invested in a new one. Hope it lasts as long as the last one. ?

Never had a dishwasher till we moved into this house now could not do without one!

MissAdventure Wed 08-Dec-21 15:21:25

I'm like a dishwasher salesman.
The one above is £229 which is a good price.
If you're able to connect a hose to your tap to fill, there are more options, but I know my taps are circa 1970s and won't comply.

Love it. Also well done you - we got one (for ourselves) after realising Dad was not getting stuff clean, despite washing as well as he could. As you say the eyes etc don't have quite the sharpness they did. And the winter light does not help.

MissAdventure Wed 08-Dec-21 14:45:05

It's an Airmsen.

I think they are sold out on amazon, but the Hava is possibly made by the same company.

The only downside is that it was literally millimetres too high to fit under my wall cupboards.

There again, that was why the woman I bought it from was letting it go.

The other makes I looked at was the Comfee miniplus 3, and the cookology 3 place setting ones.
They both get decent reviews, but they're all pretty expensive.

HiPpyChick57 Wed 08-Dec-21 14:32:52

If they inspected the dishes after I’d washed up I’d have told the cheeky toads to do their own sodding washing up!!!

Dressagediva123 Wed 08-Dec-21 14:05:53

Best thing ever - wouldn’t part with mine

Chocolatelovinggran Wed 08-Dec-21 13:16:46

Yep, half a load needs half a tablet- or you can buy liquid for dishwashers, filling the container only half full. I love my (slimline- the only slim thing in this house) dishwasher almost as much h as my washing machine ❤

Plunger Wed 08-Dec-21 12:22:56

You now have to teach them how to load it properly now! My other half ( or is it all males ) is hopeless. No matter how often he is told that saucepans etc go on the bottom he puts them on the top rack then complains that things haven't washed properly.

Merryweather Wed 08-Dec-21 11:52:41

I need one if these in my life. What is the make/ model number please? I can't hold the plates at the moment - my hands are funny (not funny though) too.

MadeInYorkshire Wed 08-Dec-21 11:36:47

Nice one! wink

Aveline Tue 07-Dec-21 09:04:51

We noticed a big reduction in tummy bugs and colds when the day unit I worked at installed a dishwasher. Just saying...

Hetty58 Tue 07-Dec-21 09:02:08

MissAdventure, I always use a half tablet (if I haven't made my own) and it works just as well, in a full size dishwasher.

Iam64 Tue 07-Dec-21 08:50:33

Great gift Miss A. I used to see dishwashers as unnecessary - then I bought one ??
