I’m full of admiration for the D of C playing the piano. I thought she was fantastic. I know it wasn’t the hardest of pieces and that it was pre-recorded, but I thought she did so well. Speaking as one who’s struggling to get up the grades, I know how difficult it is and how nerves can destroy a performance that seems so secure in the safety of your own home. Well done Kate!

This is getting very weird.

Get rid of that chip on your shoulder lassie, it's making you unbalanced.

Talking about people with chips in their shoulders. That’s really funny from you.
I’m off to pedants corner to talk about castigated.

Molly ...it certainly is funny ( it’s usually chips with everything) from a few posters.

This thread is like the Chinese Whispers game! We start off with The Duchess of Cambridge playing a piano - and end up with what we do with the water in Scottish lochs. How on earth did we get here?

No, seriously.

Courage? Awe?

To play the piano in a pre-recorded video?

Well obviously it’s not the same courage as going over the top in the trenches or rushing into a burning building, but I maintain it takes a lot of nerve to expose yourself to an audience whether you’re an amateur or professional. I took my G7 exam last month and despite practising for months and months, I still ploughed my first and usually best piece. I looked down at the keyboard and my hands were trembling with nerves. It took quite a lot of effort to pull it back and carry on. Music teachers say nerves are usually worse in adults than children, and imagine being Catherine, whose every move is scrutinised. I think she had quiet courage and carried it off beautifully.

Good comments.????

I am half English, half Welsh (confirmed by DNA!) so not Scottish at all, but I love Scotland and would like to think we are all part of the same country overall and can all work as one. I hope they don't choose independence as we are all stronger together. I'm not happy with Scottish people saying the lochs are 'our water'. How mean and petty. Lots of Welsh water is used for English cities and it's only right we should share our resources as we are all part of the British Isles.

What's Nichola got up her sleeve to beat that, a Highland fling on the prom at Ayr with a Fish supper to follow at that posh one in Kirkcudbright.
Happy boxing day to one and all. The Scots what ha wi Wallace bled are off again.sad

I’ve just noticed something ……the “h” some like to miss from duchess of Sussex first name on purpose has reappeared to misspell the Scottish first minister’s name …

Wow …. Ive just seen this horrible post. How throughly unpleasant , was there really any need ?

You may have noted that Alegrias1 said “ And in any case, I won't be criticising the RF for their ability to play musical instruments.”

paddyann54 Sun 26-Dec-21 15:27:02

sadly Forsythia Westminster will hang onto us until they#ve bled us dry As they have done with other countries..Did YOU know that almost 25% of Englands power comes from Scotland? Thats SCOTLAND ,who have tp pay to have that power added to the "national grid" unlike every other contributer ,now why is that? Then theres water...we have more water in ONE loch than the whole of Englands supply.....said to be in imminent danger of running out ...so they want ours .And thers much much more .
I've been a supporter of Independence since Winnie Ewing won Hamilton when I was 13 .I will support it until we gain it or I die .This country is so different in all ways from England.I dont hate England I have many English family from the North to Devon ,but I love my country and would rather see us reach our potential and not be dragged down by the likes of Bojo and his circus .

NotTooOld Sun 26-Dec-21 14:31:36

I'm not a massive royalist but I do think the DofC does a good job. Brave of her to play the piano in public, too. Well done that woman.

Anniebach Sun 26-Dec-21 14:24:56

No one knows how Diana would be viewed now had she lived,
we can choose to take a guess but don’t know.

Galaxy Sun 26-Dec-21 14:18:39

I can only tell you how it appears she is behaving how you (not you specifically) want her to behave, I find it really disconcerting. I think Diana's death made the whole darling/villian thing particularly marked. If Diana had lived I am not sure how she would be viewed.

Anniebach Sun 26-Dec-21 14:14:49

I certainly would not think kindly of her if she went on a chat
show and told lies or walked away from the family she chose to
marry into then verbally insulted them.

Rubbish to say she is the darling because she is behaving as people want , Diana was a saint and a darling for some, not for
me.

Galaxy Sun 26-Dec-21 13:39:44

To be honest I find the pro monarchy stuff often quite unkind, it's like they dont realise these are real people. So Kate is currently the darling because she is behaving as people want her to, but if she put a foot wrong there would be no forgiveness and she would become the enemy.

Chestnut Sun 26-Dec-21 13:05:39

It's fine to be anti monarchy chestnut in the same way it's fine to be pro monarchy. They are just different viewpoints and theres nothing wrong with 'banging a drum' to express either of those views

Of course, but the tone and content of some anti-Royalist comments have been downright nasty and unpleasant to read.

Alegrias1 Sun 26-Dec-21 12:57:49

Sorry EV, that wasn't for you, obviously.

I liked her reassuring quiet nod to the singer at the end of the performance. It was all very lovely, I thought.

Yes, courage because there would be some only too delighted to have a go at her had she made a complete muck of it all. Ring any bells?

My thoughts exactly. Better get practising those weapons of war the bagpipes Nichola your supporters are expecting a retaliation.grin

chris8888 Sun 26-Dec-21 12:48:09

I like her she is very professional in her role as a senior royal.

Alegrias1 Sun 26-Dec-21 12:46:40

This post was going along fine until I questioned whether "courage" was an appropriate description of what it took for the DoC to play her piece. I'm sure she's a fine pianist, she's been doing it since she was a child. I personally have no problem with people admiring her for doing it. Not that anybody should care what I think anyway.

So there's no criticism of the DoC, only of the blind hero worship of a bonnie lassie who plays the piano quite nicely and married well. And, BTW, went to University in that nest of traitors that is Scotland.
