I’m full of admiration for the D of C playing the piano. I thought she was fantastic. I know it wasn’t the hardest of pieces and that it was pre-recorded, but I thought she did so well. Speaking as one who’s struggling to get up the grades, I know how difficult it is and how nerves can destroy a performance that seems so secure in the safety of your own home. Well done Kate!

I think what people find endearing about Kate is her readiness to have a go at the most ordinary things in public, and the tinkling of the ivories was a good example. It didn't need to be a polished concert pianist's performance, just a sincere heartfelt interpretation.
Whether Kate's is seen baking a cake, designing a garden, playing sports, teaching kids to sketch etc she always appears to be down to earth and practical. Her confidence playing the piano was serene and she looked happily engaged.

Thank goodness this thread has got back on track after the myriad (to me totally incomprehensible) diversions via xenophobia, chips in Scotland (we never had”sauce”in the Borders - it was “salt and vinegar” with our haggis suppers) politics, morals, flouncing and inevitably Meghan!

Phew!

Could not let this slip by unchallenged however -

Odd your wisht now odd your wisht lassie/stop thy argibargi lass it's Christmas .Truce?

Anybody who follows my blog, aka “The Broons” in the Sunday Post, will know it’s “Haud yer wheesht, lassie” - without lapses into what sounds to me more like fluent Yorkshire! gringrin

Going back to Catherine ‘doing’ practical things, I can remember seeing her on an official engagement with Prince Charles. For some reason, an ironing board came into it, and Catherine was seen skilfully doing a bit of ironing. Poor Charles, it was patently obvious that if he had ever seen an ironing board, he had quite definitely never used one!

Lucca Mon 27-Dec-21 08:05:09

Happy 60th Birthday Alegrias by the way …….

Josieann Mon 27-Dec-21 08:41:39

At least William and Harry should know what an ironing board is Calendargirl having been at Sandhurst. I know that all recruits spend their first few weeks at the academy ironing uniforms.

lemongrove Mon 27-Dec-21 09:10:22

Yes Annie I do know that too many nice posters have left and hope that you won’t be one of them.smile

I really think that any poster who chooses to be nasty about Catherine playing the piano for the event is doing so just for the attention it creates, because there is no other earthly reason for them to do so.

lemongrove Mon 27-Dec-21 09:12:11

I think William ‘fell on his feet’ when he married her tbh!

Germanshepherdsmum Mon 27-Dec-21 09:17:41

I agree - it was a very good choice.

Gwyneth Mon 27-Dec-21 09:21:26

Have come late to this thread. I think Kate is great and I enjoyed her piano playing very much. On another note (excuse the pun) and from one welsh woman to another please do not leave Anniebach . I enjoy reading your posts. Sadly there are some not very nice people on here and it seems to be getting worse. I have thought about leaving myself but then that lets the nasty people win.

Anniebach Mon 27-Dec-21 09:27:56

No I won’t lemon , GransNet is my only daily contact with the outside world and there are still some posters left from the
better times.

Sorry to all for my part in the flare up yesterday, I took the bait.

William and Kate were able to develop their relationship in private when at university, that gave them time before the media piled in.

Anniebach Mon 27-Dec-21 09:34:29

Gwyneth diolch, I too think Kate is great, will she in the future be Princess of Wales .

eazybee Mon 27-Dec-21 09:44:31

Just to reiterate what others have said, please don't be driven off Gransnet, Anniebach, by the few unpleasant posters who seem unable to tolerate a different point of view from their own.

Galaxy Mon 27-Dec-21 09:45:59

Which posters are you talking about?

Anniebach Mon 27-Dec-21 09:52:26

eazybee thank you, did you enjoy the Carols Together which
Kate organised ? I did

Germanshepherdsmum Mon 27-Dec-21 09:52:30

You have nothing to apologise for Annie. So glad you’re still here.

And Charles was in the RN - I'm sure he knew how to iron!! ?

There was me thinking sauce was a drop of the hard stuff! ?
Never assume anything.

Who reads the Sunday Post? Maybe it isn't true Scots vernacular but the second part is certainly not Yorkshire. As I said yesterday no one can recognise or emulate the way we speak where I come from and it's not Carlile spelt that way on purpose either.

Casdon Mon 27-Dec-21 10:07:21

In the pursuit of peace and goodwill to all at Christmas!

The Scottish Language dictionary says Whisht,
Also wheesht, wheisht; weesht, weisht, wisht, woosht; wheest, wh(e)ist, whust, wiest; wheesh, whish, whush, whoosh, wish; quish (Sc. 1887 Jam.).

MayBeMaw Mon 27-Dec-21 10:16:08

Who reads the Sunday Post?

Well!
Fortunately for DC Thomson, lots of people and Paw and I and the rest of us Broons including Oor Wullie, are more than happy to continue getting the royalties!
And what point does the quirky spelling of Carlisle prove?
Nobody is in any doubt as to how to pronounce that

Just to reiterate what others have said, please don't be driven off Gransnet, Anniebach, by the few unpleasant posters who seem unable to tolerate a different point of view from their own.

There is a cabal of posters who think they own this site and don't like newcomers or each other's points of view either.
"Peace to the world "what a joke.
Stay on Anniebach they've won if you leave, let them start their own little coven if they want to and stop turning everything into a bid for Scottish independence.
I said I would gladly give them it, I'm not so sure now. They can't take jokes, ridicule peoples, spelling and punctuation and constantly bleat about Scottish Independence. I used to think let them go now I think no let them stop and suffer.
For the record, Nichola can be spelt with or without the h just like Nicholas can, and there are many variants of Catherine with C and K,s.
With Putin sabre-rattling across the North sea if they get independence where will be their defence come from France? Just like the National trust has proved that Bonnie Prince Charlies attempt was funded by French Slave owners, he even travelled to Scotland on a ship that had been used for slaves.
So they can stop getting at the English for practising slavery,as did many other countries did at the time and tell us who was their William Wilberforce.

Chestnut Mon 27-Dec-21 10:21:31

I too hope you will stay Anniebach as I always enjoy your posts. Some people seem to be on here all day every day, they pop up on every thread and you can't get away from them.

Galaxy Mon 27-Dec-21 10:25:34

Again what posters are you talking about.

lemongrove Mon 27-Dec-21 10:30:45

Galaxy I think you are well aware and it’s best left at ‘some posters’
Moving on......
