My OH got me a retro railway style clock with a thermometer on the other side. It not plastic and looks like the real thing. I chose it! It will look nice hanging on the wall outside. All my other presents were lovely too.

Bikergran yes, we are thinking how useful it will be for all kinds of outings, with picnics and the like.

I can still walk between market and car, but it is hard work and I have to take everything back to the car immediately before going back to the town centre to do the rest of ofthe shopping because it is bulky as well as heavy. Now I can just use the trolley and save myself some time.

For only the second time in nearly 50 yrs DH surprised me with a present rather than my knowing exactly what I was getting.
A pretty heart shaped necklace

DH surprised me with a subscription for flowers to be delivered once a month for 6 months. Very pleased with that as I love flowers.

Being able to spend Christmas Day with my son and his family at their house. It was the best day as they live quite a long way away from me and visits haven’t been possible.

A sitting fox ornament from DH I have quite a few little ones but this is quite big it’s for the summer house. I love foxes and have been collecting fox ornaments jumpers etc for years. Rather eccentric really but it’s what I prefer rather than boxes of chocolates gift sets etc.

DH bought me a lively 100% wool tartan rug made in Yorkshire! I tend to be a bit cold when watching TV so I can wrap up in this. It smells wonderful too. Also some friends gave us a lovely framed photo of Dh and me taken at a special dinner we had with them a while back. I have very few photos of us together so this was a lovely thought.

My present go myself was a bristle hairbrush as I lost mine! I’m convinced it improves my thinning hair!

Apologies for spelling!

I’m obsessed with hares too - I’ve them on my favourite China mug and have a bronze statue of ‘boxing’ hares. Very pleased at Christmas with 4 bottles of Obsession perfume from different people - will last me all year.

I got a nice comfy sweater and wine from my family!

I too love(d) my 2 bronze hares that stand (stood) on the mantlepiece. But DGS aged 5 had "a little accident Granny" and now there's only one. It looks rather lonely on its own!

Our youngest granddaughter was hospitalised with pneumonia and suspected sepsis 4 days before Christmas, she was very poorly for a while and we were beside ourselves with worry, discharged on Christmas Eve and on the mend now. Best present ever! ❤️

I was lucky to receive lots of nice things, an afternoon tea voucher to use in a nice New Forest hotel, a L’Occitane box of goodies, Liz Earle goodies, some gorgeous organic facial care from my daughter in New Zealand, a delightful photograph frame filled with pictures of our family in New Zealand that made me cry, pink sheepskin slippers, a sweatshirt, a beautiful candle holder, and much more. I was a very lucky girl. However my very best present was spending Christmas Day at my son’s house with all my family around me, apart from our daughter who’s in New Zealand, and elderly mother who’s just too immobile to leave her care home now. And the bonus was the Boxing Day buffet at our house for the same people. Last Christmas we both had Covid and on January 1st I was admitted to hospital, So my best present was definitely my family.

Poppyred you’re right, your best present was definitely the gift of your granddaughter’s health. Health and family are everything.

My very best present was to be taken out to lunch by my senior granddaughter. When she was a student I used to take her to lunch about once a month and it was lovely to be able to sit and talk to her over some excellent food.

Indeed it is, thank you Maddyone

I specifically asked for NO presents- I truly do not need anything, and last thing I need is more things. So being welcomed so warmly, and being looked after and having amazing meals cooked for me with care- was just perfect.

Second instalment coming in a few days- spending time chatting with grandchildren, walks and family games - and again, being very well fed with great food and wine- that is all I want.

We've had two holidays in Cornwall this year and each time my family must have seen me go wild for the Rick Stein tableware in his shop in Padstow. I was delighted to receive a set of bowls and mugs reminding me of our stay. My birthday is soon, so hopefully some plates will turn up next!

maddyone Tue 28-Dec-21 22:53:33

My daughter has a Cornish dinner service that she bought whilst she was on a few holidays in Cornwall, but I don’t think it’s Rick Stein, and of course it’s all packed away in storage at the moment, but one Christmas we all took a house rental in Padstow and I remember going to the Rick Stein fish and chip restaurant for lunch on Christmas Eve. Naughty, but nice! Enjoy your lovely pottery Josieann.

I had 3 wonderful gifts this year:

(1) A bottle of Channel 5 from DH. He buys me some every Christmas, but it was extra special this year after the fear at the start of the year that he might not be with me this Christmas. His future is looking much brighter now.

(2) Having one of our sons and his family to stay with us for Christmas, and meeting our latest GC.

(3) Our eldest Step-GS hugged me and called me Nanny, something he's never done before. It was a lovely moment.

I had some lovely material gifts as well, a beautiful photo frame, a pendant and my favourite chocolates. It was a lovely Christmas.

Here is mine from my son, the bottle contains gin liquor, he knows my tastes well!

V3ra Thu 30-Dec-21 10:34:19

The contents look good as well, but this bottle bag, decorated by my five year old granddaughter, has to be my favourite present ?
