DH and I have taken our decorations down today.

It’s so nice being able to draw the curtains without knocking over the candle bridges on the window sill, and just being able to move about more freely round the room.

Like to see them go up, but relieved when they come down.

This has just landed in my inbox from a well-known yarn company!

"It’s never too early to start preparing for the most wonderful time of the year. Beat the festive rush and get your projects underway!"

I was thinking it will soon be time to make the Xmas pudding and then the cake

First, finish the Nativity set.

Lots of craft companies have "Christmas in July" sales.

My C Cake is in the oven. To be honest, it will probably be scoffed asap, and I will have to make another grin

I think September is the month for making my Christmas cake.
It will be "well fed" between then and Christmas.

I’m pleased someone has mentioned sprouts, like the late, very much missed, Victoria Wood, I never put mine on until September.

micmc47 Thu 20-Jul-23 07:31:53

Only 158 shopping days until Christmas. Our Crimbo-obsessed neighbour will no doubt soon be covering his house and front garden with with lights plus illuminated Santa, Rudolph and Snowman. "Bless" him. Bah, humbug!

Ohh I wish this thread would stop makes me feel so depressed
I don’t enjoy winter or Christmas and the very word makes me feel gloomy and in July it ps annoying

Cutting it fine AnnSixty !
I think it was Sarah Kennedy whose recipe for sprouts went something like this
Place 3 stones in a pan, add water and sprouts, bring to the boil then simmer until the stones are tender! gringrin

I like fairy lights- lots of them. I have left a few up since Christmas - just the white ones and as my Yorkshire Mum would have said, 'they fair cheer me up'.

Oreo Thu 20-Jul-23 08:43:10

A bit on the early side for a Christmas thread 😂on the other hand, buy your pressies in the Sales!

TerriBull Thu 20-Jul-23 08:54:28

It's still July confused summer is brief enough without contemplating the often dark and dreary winter, where there is such an inordinate focus is on just one day, a religious feast that's sadly morphed into an overblown consumer fest sad

Well, that’s fair enough for craft projects IMO.

I started making the 5th (if I haven’t lost count) Nativity Set last month. One shepherd and a Joseph done so far, basic figures and robes anyway, not all the bits and pieces, let alone the sewing up.
That’s in between other projects on the go.

Once we’re into September, the time positively whizzes past - always seems so to me, anyway.
As I’ve said elsewhere, I’m already saving jars for Delia’s 🎄mincemeat!

Hush!! 😁

I've decided to take the notorious N set to the craft group in September so I can sew and natter at the same time, better than trying to do a complicated pattern.

Cheer up, the school children break up this week for the long summer holidays Bluebelle 🏄‍♀️🏊‍♂️🏖

However two weeks ago I did see a notice in a supermarket window: Back to School, Uniforms on Sale Here.

Poor children, let them enjoy their break 😀

annsixty Thu 20-Jul-23 10:38:27

I have had at least 3 emails over the last few weeks from Balsam Hill, purveyors of expensive C……. Trees urging me to buy mine now.

About 40 years ago, DS2 was incensed at the spate of 'back to school' signs in shops. So he wrote a letter to the local newspaper which was published. Not that it had any effect on the stores.
But about Christmas: I sometimes see something that would work as a Christmas present and it happened about a year ago that I saw, in a charity shop, a lovely, fluffy dog on wheels, obviously brand new - for £5. I snapped it up and kept it for my then new-born GGD. She got it for Christmas and now, 13 months old, she adores it, cuddles it and is using it to practise walking. When I discovered a children's wear site having a sale, I bought her Christmas present for this year too!

May we see a picture if you have one?

Witzend Sat 22-Jul-23 10:21:54

This was last year’s, DaisyAnneReturns, much the same as the others.
It’s from the patterns in Jean Greenhowe’s ‘Christmas Special’ booklet (main set) and Christmas Treasures (the donkey).

In case you’re not familiar with JG, her instructions are crystal clear and explicit - if you follow them exactly the results do turn out just like the illustration.

I always buy early but if you haven't started yet QVC has their Christmas in July promotion this weekend .I've already added a few items for my present cupboard

I have completed Mary, Joseph and wee Baby Jesus plus two sheep although one looks more like a polar bear 🙂
