This is the first year I am staying home alone on Christmas Day as its not possible to leave my elderly dogs alone or take them with me. My adult children all want to do their own thing. For the last 30 years I have cooked for family and anyone else who had nowhere to go. So my question is, how do people cope? My friends are all going to their families or cooking for them. Not sure what to do with myself I am even feeling a bit sorry for myself.

I love to walk the beach on Christmas afternoon, after a lunch of whatever extravagances I can dream up. Years of sharing the kids with their non-resident dad, decades ago.
Other lovely walks are available. Enjoy.

I've spent about half of the last 20 Christmases on my own. I've done many of the things people have already mentioned. I also go online and buy myself a lovely Christmas present. The New Year sales often start on Christmas Eve and I've found some real bargains.

I will mostly be on my own during the christmas hols but I am embracing it, have several engrossing projects to do. Some nice food to eat and some delicious festive snacks plus I have re-joined amazon prime, after a year without, only for the 30 day free trial you understand, so I can watch freebie films if I want to watch tv. I will cancel again after the 30 days

I did make a long and expensive list for my organic food delivery later this week but what the heck, I don`t want to be struggling to squeeze food into my freezer or to eat stuff, just because. It took me years to get down to a nice healthy weight and I am not about to pile too much back on.

Bit by bit, I have gone through the list and deleted stuff, knowing that it is no longer available and glad that someone else will see it and snatch it into their basket. Now I am down to 25% of what I was thinking of spending and feel great, knowing that I will have a lovely calm and peaceful time, no moping for me, with finished projects by the end. No point moping, it is what it is and I too have bought myself some lovely presents
