What would you like for Christmas?

Have you been asked this question? I never know what to say, but once - just once - I committed myself to: 'I'd love a bird table', I can't remember what I did receive, but it wasn't a bird table and I still don't have one. Whatever I did receive, I'm sure it was equally acceptable and no doubt I still have it in a drawer or a box or a cupboard...whatever it was! So, have you ever answered this question and received something you really wanted or something you never knew you wanted, but was gratefully and gracefully accepted?

DH has a lovely, very old railway man's leather bag, but minus a strap. He cannot find anyone to repair it. He would dearly love to have it mended and give it to me for Christmas, andI would love it. He keeps searching. Bless him .

I asked for a wooden bird table many years ago and my husband bought me one. Just this weekend he was breaking it up as it was beyond repair. Maybe I will get another one!

I'd like to go off to a nice hotel in the sun somewhere and come home at the end of March. What a great Christmas present that would be.

An end to my arthritis.

I used to ask for a sharp scissors if anyone asked me. At last one year I got a pair! I still use them.

I will wrap up something for everyone who is here on Christmas day. So they all have a parcel to open. It may be a book or socks or whatever I find at the local Christmas markets.
I have already found a few things. When in doubt, chocolate or booze usually pleases.
There are a couple more birthdays before then. They are trickier.

Dottydots

No more handbags please. I took six to a charity shop recently. (Only cheaper ones I bought for myself.)

Oh! Too many handbags? How is that possible?

A whole wheel of Stilton all to myself, no sharing.

How about a voucher for something that you could all do as a family? Special picnic, short holiday, see a show? Anything that gives good memories for all to cherish!

Allsorts

Peace. At home and The World.

Oh, yes!
I’ve got loads of “stuff”, I really don’t need any more. I’d just like a quiet, calm day with my offspring, no visitors, no frantic cooking…
The best present I could be given is TIME. Although they live nearby, I see the family for three or so hours once a week, most weeks. It would be nice if I could see more of them. No, I’m not complaining, just saying.

I'd like to turn the clock back to when the children were young. Watching them open their presents was the best part of the day.

My son bought me a set of sharp kitchen knives one year. My daughter in law was horrified - " that's not a present " - but it was a great choice. My knives were old and blunt and I had been too thrifty ( mean?) to upgrade.
Probably not the kind of thing suggested in those glossy magazines as " The Ideal Gift for the Older Lady".

This year, a new garden trowel.
The metal ring at the join between the handle and the blade has come adrift. I have tried to fix it but it jangles around and drives me potty!

Most years I’m in the five bags of mulch please club.

My standard answer when asked for present ideas - a pony or a donkey please!
However, since we don't have a paddock to spare ( or even at all! ), I gratefully include gardening books ( Monty Don/ Adam Frost/ Carol Klein usually have a new one out ), and a promise of a free rein in the garden centre/nursery next year! I am busy planning 2 new borders for next year, and am enjoying working out what to put where.
PS - if we did have room and funds, I would love to give a forever home to a rescue pony or donkey! I improvise by donating to The Donkey Sanctuary, and a local horse/donkey rescue centre.
Take care everyone xx

Nothing really any more (though there are a couple of things I’d like if anyone won a few £M on the lottery…)

I don’t want any or need any more ‘stuff’ - I’m trying to get rid of some of what I’ve got, and TBH I prefer to choose any clothes etc. for myself.
Apart from the obligatory chocs from dh, I now tell family to save their money, except for maybe small edibles/drinkables.

One thing I really did want a few years ago was sheepskin house boots from Celtic, so to save dh racking his brains I left a printout on his desk, with size and colour clearly circled.
I’m still wearing them!

Anything but! All the Christmas wish lists are in, so no time will be wasted thinking about waht to give people - I have their lists.

When we are altogether - as we will be for a week - everything will be buzzing and busy, games, conversations, walks out, watching DVD's, doing jigsaws. playing games, going shopping. Just the joy of having all the family around, after a year when circumstances have mean that visits have been far fewer than usual.

Mojack26 Tue 19-Nov-24 12:42:19

My kids always ask and I always say 'nothing'! Don't need anything if I do I buy it...At a stage in my life I'm getting rid of stuff not adding to it.... Time spent with family. If I can't grow it, eat it or drink it, don't want it! I'm not 5! Lol

Applegran Tue 19-Nov-24 12:44:24

I have too much 'stuff' and ask for a card and a donation to charity - often to the charity called 'Womankind' but there are others too for people who are in serious need.

Pearlsaminger Tue 19-Nov-24 12:53:45

Have you tried a shoe repair shop? Or a saddle repair shop? They both deal with leather

JamesandJon33 Tue 19-Nov-24 13:07:48

Pearlsaminger. Thank you, yes we have. Most ‘used’ to do it but not now. Luckily we have just been contacted by a very lovely man. Bag goes to him tomorrow.

emilie Tue 19-Nov-24 13:21:59

Two new legs.

heavenlyheath Tue 19-Nov-24 13:22:41

My slow cooker present is not compatible with my hob. I have to always brown meat etc in saucepan double the washing up

heavenlyheath Tue 19-Nov-24 13:24:53

Surely someone who repairs shoes could help repair a bag strap
