Though to be quite fair, it did contain a change of address card, too.

Finished writing my cards 15 minutes ago will post them on 29/11.

I'm really really pondering whether now is the year to say "no more cards".
Now that the stamp costs more than the card it just seems wrong somehow. Normally they'd all be ready for posting, but so far I've only bought a box of charity ones.
Sad isn't it?

Posted my first one yesterday as it has to get all the way to Japan. It usually arrives late if I leave it any longer. The rest will wait until December.

How great to combine change of address with Christmas cards; good thinking on someone’s part.

Oh dear not sure I want to received Christmas cards in November but do understand the need to post early. A little to early for me though!

I am posting mine to Australia tomorrow.

Last year one card from down under came early so I just saved it until it seemed the right time to open it!

I’m half way through writing my cards.
I don’t write as many nowadays though. I don’t go to work, so no longer write cards for colleagues. Sadly all of my older relatives have now died, so no writing cards for them. I don’t have a class of children to write a card each for any longer.
So some for our immediate neighbours, some for friends and relatives, some for some people at church, and we’re done.

Wow! There must be a prize for that. Ha! Ha!

I shall start writing mine soon - there are at least half a dozen overseas ones, so they do need to go early. But I do post the U.K. ones fairly early too - that way I can use 2nd class stamps - we have some Christmas ones left over from last year.

AreWeThereYet Thu 21-Nov-24 19:14:45

We usually post overseas ones at the beginning of December and others the second week of December.

I don't open any until the second week of December - we usually know who they are from from the postmark and handwriting anyway. But it's quite nice having a dozen sitting waiting to be opened and putting them all up together.

Love painting mine. Started doing this during lock down and found relatives love them. Must admit still a lot more to make. Now where did I leave my paint brush?!

When I was working many moons ago I can remember quite clearly writing around 50 cards. But sadly only around 25 now and only 10 to post, having lost a few people along the way few deaths etc . Generally post two weeks before Christmas and give friends there’s with their presents the week before.

Read an article a few days ago (Telegraph or Guardian) that said if you were to post 100 cards first class in the UK at a cost of £165 then it would be cheaper to get a December flight to Albania at a cost of £27 and post cards from there. Can't remember the postage cost of first class stamp in Albania.
Not of course that I would use a first class stamp for a C card.

Gave my first one yesterday but that is because I am in Greece and my friends leave in two days time! Cheaper to bring to Greece and give it to them than post it 🙂

My family and I have just had a couple of nights in a rented house for my father's very special birthday. Apart from sisters, nieces, nephews, grandchildren etc. there were cousins we haven't seen for far too long so we all bought our Xmas cards and any presents and handed them out - as someone said, when the cards are cheaper than the postage...........

Nannan2 Sun 24-Nov-24 12:42:19

Same as what Judy54 said!smile

Nannan2 Sun 24-Nov-24 12:53:32

Also yes, a great idea to include a change of address card- i lived in a house for 11 years which used to recive a christmas card each year, for the previous tenants, from same folk, and they didnt even put a return address or phone number in so i could inform them they had moved. I even tried pop back in post saying no longer at this address on it but no luck! Good job they never put money in, just the card with xmas & new year wishes.Ive been moved for 2 years from there now- i wonder if they'll continue it now postage is so high?

Lesley60 Sun 24-Nov-24 14:14:30

I can’t understand why people want to start Christmas so early, I would never put my decs up or send cards until 2 weeks before the date
Why do people start in November oh well each to their own

LinAnn52 Sun 24-Nov-24 14:33:17

I gave one to a friend last week, when we met for lunch. I won’t see her again this year. I’m trying to cut down the amount of stamps I have to buy.

Norah Sun 24-Nov-24 14:41:47

I prefer internet cards. Whatever day.

Click delete, saves a trip to the bin.

cookiemonster66 Sun 24-Nov-24 15:12:17

Can understand why after last year so many of my friends including myself posted cards end of November and didn’t even turn up in time for Christmas! It’s a joke!

I live in Canada, and at the moment our postal workers are on strike.... and it's been two weeks now with no end in sight.

I only send about 5 out of town/out of country cards now to folks who are older and not computer savvy. Everyone else gets an e-card.
I get about half a dozen real cards and the rest come via the inbox on my laptop. smile

Eddieslass Sun 24-Nov-24 15:56:31

I used to love receiving Christmas cards from all and sundry, especially if they contained chatty letters (I enjoyed sending too). Now almost all older relations have died and many friends too. My church and women’s group ask for a small donation with a message. These are then printed into a card which everyone is given, and the monies donated to charity. This works well except for a few people who still moist on sending personal ones!

Eddieslass Sun 24-Nov-24 16:13:26

Insist - not moist.
