A Prayer for Christmas (from my dog)

May...

May the turkey be well cooked
may the counter be low
may stuffing be overlooked
and the cook be too slow
may the butter in rivers
run into the mash
may the gravy be bounteous
and pour with a splash

May the bacon and sausages
fall onto the floor
may the cream for the pudding
all spill as you pour
may the beans turn out soggy
and land in our bowl
may you never discover
where went the ham roll.

Not original, but I liked it and hope all dog owners do!

Brilliant, Maw.

There is a proverb that says If God hears the dogs' prayers, it will start raining meaty bones.

The cats' Christmas wishes are some of the following:

May the Christmas tree be big and bushy, and really smell of fir

It would be nice if pork crackling fell on the kitchen floor

It would be even better if our human mummy forgot to lock tthe pantry door when she defreezes the pork roast and the duck.

And just before dark on Christmas Eve, let me please catch a nice big field-mouse to give her, and my brother wants to catch a teeny-tiny bird, although the last one he brought in was NOT well received.

And please, please, may we have the wood-burned lit and warming everything, including our fur on Christmas Day?

So funny! 😆

There's one sitting and waiting under the breakfast table here! Christmas lunch will be a big bonus!

No, alas, I can’t claim the credit it for it - read online.

Oh right, well am glad you posted the poem it gave me a big smile.
It’s a good job I don’t have a dog, it’s hard to resist their hungry faces if you eat anywhere near them, so hopeful and imploring.I would prob over feed it.

Iam64 Mon 02-Dec-24 21:07:35

Oreo -my spaniel says can she spend a day with you

Oreo Mon 02-Dec-24 21:10:17

😂Yes she can, one day a week? 🐶
There’s some left over lasagne right now if she’s interested.

Iam64 Mon 02-Dec-24 21:13:33

Her big ears perked up. She’s been deprived of lasagne - she’s packing her blanket as we speak

Oreo Mon 02-Dec-24 21:17:00

How cute, I’ll look forward to her visits, tell her to woof 3 times at the door.Fat spaniels are adorable, right?🤭

Don’t we 🩷 dogs? This just now in the Telegraph:

“A retired police dog on its first walk since recovering from major surgery rescued a vulnerable man after locating him in woods.

Bear, a German shepherd, was being walked by owner Julia Pope, a former police officer, in the Eastbourne area of East Sussex when it sensed the presence of the man who was a missing person being searched for by police.

The dog, which celebrated its 12th birthday on the day of the incident, Nov 28, took Ms Pope to the missing man.

Ms Pope said: “This was his first proper walk since his surgery and we thought it would be a gentle wander but then it ended up being quite dramatic.

“Bear went into work mode, he suddenly stopped and started indicating towards an area of dense undergrowth – and then dragged us to it, where he located and alerted us to a vulnerable man.”

Iam64 Mon 02-Dec-24 21:43:35

Doesn’t the story of Bear and his handler make us smile, thankful for working dogs like him, who like their handlers, never really to retire

Thst spaniel is impressed with your beliefs Oreo. It’s her life ambition to be a Fat Spaniel. B

Great poem Rosie’s Maw! Everything our dog dreams of 🤣🐾

Allira Mon 02-Dec-24 22:36:38

😁

No dogs here any more, alas, but there may be one positioning himself by my feet on Christmas Day, hoping I may be clumsy enough to drop a sausage - or just a roast potato will do 🤶

One of my sons’ friends at the age of about ten was a terribly messy eater. Not wishing to nag him when our dog went to sit by him during supper I told him she always sat by the messiest eater. The message got through and he tidied up his act

Cateq Tue 03-Dec-24 14:22:52

Rosie, that prayer is so true of my dogs they loved Christmas dinner as they were served the same us. No wonder they never liked dog food😂

rosies that’s a lovely poem, my daughter’s labradoodle is dribbling at the thought of it all!

A quote from Cornell University

"For example, one ounce of milk chocolate per pound of a dog’s body weight can be deadly compared to unsweetened baking chocolate, where as little as 0.1 ounces per pound of a dog’s body weight may be lethal. For this reason, even ingesting small amounts, especially in a smaller dog, should be treated as an emergency."

That's just lovely RosiesMaw2

As for chocolate that's reminded me of my beautiful greyhound, now kicking his heels over Rainbow Bridge. I'd taken my youngest 2 children to school. Unbeknownst to us, my daughter had left her door ajar.

When I came home, Larry was sitting on the armchair with 4 advent calendars around him. Obviously he'd been upstairs and brought them down, one at a time. And eaten the contents. Luckily it was the 18th December so not a vast amount of chocolate was consumed.

I rang the vet and he told me he'd be fine. Which he was. And happy he was very happy.

Aw, your post made me well up a bit Louella12.

One Christmas I brought loads of chocolate gifts home from school - After 8s, Elizabeth Shaws, Matchmakers, Brazil Nuts etc and left them on the desk in the study. Forgot to shut the door, and by the morning, Rupert the dog, who lived for 14 happy years, had eaten the lot. Surprisingly no ill effects.
