...you have 2 sausage rolls an olive and a handful of twiglets for your breakfast grin

You switch the oven on to heat up in readiness for the turkey and somebody else switches it off because they think you’ve accidentally left it on after warming up bagels for breakfast.

grin grin ......

" I was only trying to help"

must be one of the most overused phrases today!

I never sleep well and last night when I woke for a wee I had some chocolate! Naughty me. In my defence usually I don’t eat the stuff. It was a toblerone too

My Irish mother used to say at Christmas, 'there's joy and sadness in every home' which in my teenage head I used to think was obvious and mawkish but of course, she was correct. Christmas brings joy and warmth but also trials and tribulations, I wish everyone the best Christmas they can have and a healthy and peaceful year ahead.

When you look in the fridge and find numerous, unidentifiable, foil wrapped parcel of various sizes which could contain gammon, turkey, pigs in blankets, left over veg or something else - which could be anything at all.

And when DH declares that he hates Wallace and Gromit but sits eating a big bowl of popcorn while chuckling all the way through it.

Oh yes that is Christmas all right kitty but I’m a happy bunny as one of my foil parcels contains pork pie from that certain East Midlands based bakery yum yum.

Thank you, Grandmadinosaur - that's what is in the unidentifiable parcel.

Sadly, I'm gf so can't eat it but DH is Leicestershire Lad so it's compulsory for Christmas breakfast.

When the smell of roast turkey wafts through the house

Grandmadinosaur Wed 25-Dec-24 19:35:51

Oh so sorry you can’t enjoy the pork pie. My father in law used to have pp for Christmas breakfast. He was originally from the West Midlands and I’d never come across that tradition before.

When you are cleaning your oven at 7pm on a Wednesday evening 🤷‍♀️

When you come home with a cool bag of tubs of leftovers for the freezer including a large one of my dd’s gorgeous red cabbage.

kittylester the turkey juices had spilled over, and I have a house full tomorrow.

It was definitely not by choice 😹😹😹

kittylester Wed 25-Dec-24 20:49:37

That's someone's law, GG. I feel your pain.

Harris27 Wed 25-Dec-24 20:53:41

Glad you have all had a good day. Scrambled eggs and salmon for me this morning. Feel full now say I’m eating no more!

teabagwoman Thu 26-Dec-24 06:59:56

Oh GG13 that was rotten luck. I hope everything goes smoothly today.

My daughter gave us all lovely fat oysters and scallops wrapped in bacon for entree this year. Absolutely delicious! Then we had roast pork and roast lamb with lots of veggies followed by trifle, tiramisu, blueberries and mangoes. No turkey but I can’t say I actually missed it. It was a pleasure not to do all the work for once- I just did the desserts.

We ate popcorn while we watched & introduced a relation who has no TV , they announced. “Why are we watching a children’s thing’

Aveline Thu 26-Dec-24 08:44:33

Gosh. Someone who doesn't have a TV?! A rare being.

You are doing a trillion things at the same time , peeling veg, getting the food cutlery & china out , laying the table making the red cabbage , basting the turkey , setting the table ,
Then forget to get a nice wine , fizz etc & your DH decides we won’t have Christmas pud as it’s rakes 2 hours to heat !!

Dottydots Thu 26-Dec-24 11:08:13

I opened the fridge this morning to get out my milk and staring right back at me were the pigs in blankets that I had completely forgotten to cook yesterday.
Never mind, I will have them tonight with my cold meat and pickles.

poppysmum Thu 26-Dec-24 15:15:26

You dont seem to stop eating and anything healthy is not on the menu. every time you have another chocolate you utter the immortal words 'must go on a diet' sigh and have another choccy!

kittylester Thu 26-Dec-24 15:49:39

Put it in the microwave - 3 minutes to reheat, 7 minutes to cook from raw.
