What's the worst present you've ever received, either for Christmas, birthday or another occasion?

Mine was a small box of Dairy Milk, from a close friend of many years.... mine to him was a golf bag, to put his clubs in (he was an Estate Agent, so not on minimum wage, like I was then)

The first Christmas after my marriage (first one!) my husband hinted that he had got me something 'gold' .... Oh was I excited!!

Then, came Christmas Day, a little present, I opened it and found ...

Two pairs of 'Golden Dawn' tights. sad

My ex bought me a kitchen bin for Christmas once. He wasn’t an ex at the time.
Also a friend bought me a desk calendar for Christmas, I don’t work at a desk. I work outside. ?

We had just moved into our first house and my father gave me roll of chicken wire fencing for my birthday. Another time it was a pair of pillow cases?

My (older, married) step sister gave me some wooden pegs for my 21st Birthday. My Parents gave me a wind up musical card!

Later in Life, my (40+ year old) step daughter gave me a broken Wine Rack with all the "Reduced to.." labels still on it!

My husband gave me a set of drain rods, together with a promise to teach me how to use them.
The marriage didn’t last long after that.

A Bexbissell carpet cleaner from my new husband on our first Christmas after we married.

My mother-in-law when she was alive used to be obsessed with car boot sales. One birthday she's bought me a jumper that smelt of sweat under the armpits.
No prizes for guessing what I done with that.

An engagement present sent through the post. A fragile glass cream jug and sugar basin set. One piece was smashed to smithereens but the intact one was horrible anyway!

A top and shorts set from my MIL. She bought it for herself on holiday, wore it and found it was too small, so she wrapped it up for me for my birthday. She hadn't even washed it, there was a stain on the front, it smelled sweaty, and it was two sizes too big for me. It went straight in the bin after she left.

I just remembered, my Mum and Dad, two weeks after my 21st birthday gave me a hairdryer, the sort with a shower cap type thing on your head and a tube attached to blow the air in from a heater you could carry like a shoulder bag (not like you could go very far from the plug?) ... what on earth?

I went to see them on my 21st birthday, after work, but they were busy watching TV and I didn't even get the offer of a sherry! sad

One year my ex mother in law bought me 1 bri nylon pillowcase. Think it might have been a hint but it was another 20 years before I took it grin

to many to mention really - household appliances for birthdays and Xmas from my husband - usually replacements for busted ones.

The birthday gift was good but ............
he asked for it back two weeks later to give to his mother at Christmas as he hadn’t had time to get her anything.

My husband & I received a huge box from USA before our wedding on opening it there was a large wood & metal candelabra, painted green & in the centre was yellow plastic flowers ( not like any real flower you have ever seen) It was the ugliest thing I have ever seen,I had never met the sender an uncle & aunt of my husbands,we used it as a tacky gift several times as people kept giving it back to us !Long gone but an amusing memory——- I was so disappointed.

For my 50th birthday, my parents bought me a large oblong pottery vase (of sorts) filled with multicolored silk flowers. This might have been a lovely gift for someone else but sadly after 50 years they still didn’t know me at all - dislike silk flowers and completely not into pottery. I put it in the garage as they never visit anyway and finally gave it away to goodwill

A work colleague gave me an address book with a section for birthdays and events. She rang me to see if I had opened it and could I checked the month of June. It had a birthday already written in it! She apologised and said she had re-gifted it as it was from her friend who had died, and she didn't realise she had put her birthday in it. Awful to say but it went into the recycling.

Flakesdayout ; similar thing happened to us. My uncle and aunt used to send my DH and me some very odd presents, but we just thought they had weird tastes. One year we got a small tartan toilet bag (between us) and I found a gift card inside that said "Happy Christmas to [Uncle] and [Aunt}.
We realised they must have been regifting for years!
I sent the card back with my thank you letter, and never got another present from them.

An older friend, who has all the diplomatic skills of a herd of stampeding elephants, gave me a second hand dress for my birthday one year with the words “it was too big for me but I thought it would fit you!” Charming and not even true as she is a good size bigger than me. It was grey, a colour that gives me the six feet under look - not flattering - a style that could never have been fashionable and at least a size 26 - l am around size 14. I was amazed it was accepted in the local charity shop.

A deep fat fryer from Mr Beek as ours was broken. He was the only one who ever used a deep fat fryer!

Youngatheart51 Sat 04-Jun-22 18:15:18

An exercise bike from my dh2b so I could lose weight for our wedding! I was a size 12 at the time ??
