The "Primrose" umbrella arrived last week, thank you gransnet, it's a lovely, fun umbrella which my DGD will really like I'm sure. She'll be the only one wandering around in this lovely weather with an umbrella grin

Just wanted to say a big 'Thank you' for my copy of 'Up With The Birds' by John Yeoman and beautifully illustrated by Quentin Blake. I shall enjoy reading it to my grandchildren when they visit. Also a belated 'Thank You' for all the other free books that I've received for my own enjoyment, including 'The Middlesteins' (Jami Attenberg), 'House on Paradise Street (Sofka Zinovieff) and 'Restless' (William Boyd). I don't know if I'm luckier than some other Gransnetters but I almost always receive the freebies that I apply for so am truly grateful.

Received 'Up with the birds' yesterday - just in time to read it to my grandson who was staying over. Many thanks.

Thank you for my copy of Beautiful Ruins which arrived today. Totally unexpected. I have almost finished reading my present book so this came at the right time.

Galen Sat 20-Jul-13 12:33:57

And me. Mine came today. Will read it after I've read the papers for this weeks tribunals. They look to be the equivalent of the entire Barchester chronicles!

I gave the Spy Package to younger grandson to-day. Within half an hour he had caught a drug dealer (!!!) and spent the rest of the afternoon on the trail of an unsavoury character who apparently has a bomb under his coat. hmm

j08 Sun 21-Jul-13 22:46:13

And he appears to have taken my magnifying glass home with him! shock

I've been meaning to post (but forgot because so much going on) to say thank you for the Spy Book I received, on behalf of the following smile: When I saw the book, I said to my 36 year old son, "I'm sure I recognise this book, did you have it?" (it is a re-issue of a vintage book). He replied "No, but A (his best friend when they were growing up) had one and we used it until it was dog eared". I don't have any grandchildren, so son took it to the autistic children's service where he volunteers, and he called me excitedly to say that "the book went down a storm here" and "I had my first hug and eye contact from XXX, thanks to the book". Thank you GN and the publishers for spreading the love!
