Doesn't have to be good, Ana, or even grand.

Ana Sat 06-Sept-14 16:22:12

Ha, ha, 'No Demands' - that's a good one! grin

Grand is a word we reserve for something or someone with gravitas or wisdom: as children we read stories that establish its importance, with hobbit children in Tolkien's Lord of the Rings shouting "G for Grand!" as the old wizard Gandalf rides by. Grand is a tag for our respect of life experience, embodied by the older (and hopefully inspiring) members of our families.

Portuna421 Sat 06-Sept-14 14:35:28

Having the luxury of time to spend on a Grandchild who has time to listen.

Ana Sat 06-Sept-14 14:35:25

There's no 'element of skill' involved if the winner's going to be drawn randomly! You could say anything...

nightowl Sat 06-Sept-14 14:34:39

Nellie you have made me realise we refer to younger DGS as 'the boy' as well. It is said affectionately (he couldn't be more loved, just like yours I'm sure) smile

Nelliemoser Sat 06-Sept-14 14:05:52

Jingle His parents tended to refer to him in the abstract as "The Boy" but by name when talking to him. It's not at all as offhand as might sounds just a bit of a joke between them grin

Not as strict with the grandchildren I smile at the handprints where I used to be cleaning them straight off the glass and tables. We meander along to feed the ducks there is no need to rush all the work at home can be done when the children go home and I have had a rest of course.

Aka Sat 06-Sept-14 13:46:27

I'm not grand enough to be a 'grand' hence I'm just Nana.

janeainsworth Sat 06-Sept-14 13:37:49

Seeing my children loving their children as much as I love them, and doing as much as I can to help them all.

mazza245 Sat 06-Sept-14 13:26:44

Don't know what else to put other than all the lovely posts already on here but to love that that little hand will clasp yours and say 'I love you, Grandma'. No better feeling in the world.

durhamjen Sat 06-Sept-14 13:24:00

Kitty, if you go down to the bottom of the competition page, it says "as listed in " and gives four links.

There is an element of skill in that you have to write something about how grand it is to be a grandparent.

The competition ends on 5th October, so most of those newbies who have entered by now must have been members for a month before then, Lona.

Being available when needed, whether it's to take them swimming, looking after the youngest while mum goes to work, or, being just at the end of the phone when they want to talk.

GrannyCaz1 Sat 06-Sept-14 11:59:46

Having lived our life to the full able to give first hand guidance to our lovely grandchildren

morgan05 Sat 06-Sept-14 11:20:48

having the chance to do the kid stuff again but getting to spoil the kids without the constant parenting

grandmaz Sat 06-Sept-14 10:33:54

there's a special kind of joy in watching your own children grow and become loving parents to children of their own - being involved in their lives, sharing their laughter and their tears, seeing faces light up when you go to visit...it's all part of this very special gift of being a GRANDparent...it's the best!

strawberrinan Sat 06-Sept-14 10:33:47

What puts the GRAND in? The fact that you have these new people that are part of you. You can love them as much as you loved your own children but without the pressure of actually being the parent. You can spoil them and care for them and give them naughty little treats.

carow48 Sat 06-Sept-14 10:23:06

Seeing their little faces as they run to you with their arms open . . . .

jinglbellsfrocks Sat 06-Sept-14 09:57:34

It's quite refreshing actually.

jinglbellsfrocks Sat 06-Sept-14 09:57:20

Nelliemoser! shock Do you really refer to your beloved GS as "the boy"?!!!

grin wink

jinglbellsfrocks Sat 06-Sept-14 09:55:37

shock

MiceElf Sat 06-Sept-14 09:41:20

It's the Gaming Act 2005 and a competion has to have an element of skill, but not so hard as to deter the majority of competitors.

This seems not to fulfil that requirement.
